Conceptualising to transcend: Glocal imaginaries and international students
Get PDFThis chapter argues that a promising step towards reducing the harm that stems from theorising as if standpoint does not matter is to discover the ways in which local and global are mutually constituted. To rehabilitate research with international students into the dialogic arena opened up by the global-local continuum, I recommend putting place back in focus. I explore the potential of the dialectic between the global and the local to realign research with practice and to nurture context-sensitive conceptualisation. Research with international students which harnesses the rich insights stemming from marginality and not belonging, the chapter hopes to demonstrate, in turn generates transformative understandings of all levels of analysis including the global and local and further nudges us towards anchoring knowledge creation in relational ontologies

No full textLightning in the form of electromagnetic radiation as received in the VLF and LF bands on April 1, 2015 from 10 kHz to 300 kHz over Kalyani (22.97° N, 88.43° E) during a purely local pre-monsoon thunderstorm and its characteristics is examined by simultaneous consideration of RF spectra, Doppler Radar and Satellite pictures with a view to examine the spectral pattern and other important characteristics noted over the area. Atmospherics, satellite and other relevant meteorological parameters during another severe storm as experienced at different parts of South Bengal including Kalyani, on April 11, 2013 have also been analyzed and some interesting results are reported considering the source activity and the radio wave propagation involved
Introduction: Research with international students critical conceptual and methodological considerations
Get PDFThe idea for this book started with a simple observation: there is a lot of research produced about international students, and much of it is not very good. This was initially an informal observation, which was later substantiated through several systematic reviews developed across various projects (Lomer & Mittelmeier, 2023; Mittelmeier et al., 2022; Mittelmeier & Yang, 2022). Along the way, we started creating online resources to support better research designs, which organically garnered attention from fellow scholars. This edited volume formalises and builds upon that work by bringing together 49 critical researchers to form a collective scholarly critique of existing research, pushing forward new agendas for the future of research with international students as a subfield within higher education studies. We met throughout the writing process, both in our editorial team and as larger consortiums of authors, to discuss and dream about what that future might contain
