Supply chains are nowadays interconnected and if one part, one link of the chain is disrupted, it affects the whole system. Supply chain disruption is an interruption in the flow of process that involves any of the entities which are connected to the production, sales, and distribution of specific goods or services.
This study aims to analyse through literature check and personal observations of the author the supply chain disruptions nature, their effect on the business and how can the companies recover easily or resist a disruption in the supply chain and mitigate the risk in our highly dynamic world

Get PDFThe term "Supply Chain" can be explained as the whole network of businesses and individuals which are collaborating in order to produce and distribute a final good or service.Supply Chains are nowadays interconnected and can be easily influenced by foreseen and unforeseen events. Brexit affected the supply chains in the United Kingdom in a negative way and caused disruptions. One of the main factors caused by Brexit which is influencing the supply chains is the end of free movement. This study aims to analyze the effects of the end of free movement on the supply chains in the United Kingdom based on a literature review and personal reflection on the topic.The Business had to rearrange the supply chains and implement changes in order to make the supply chains resilient in the turbulent times. The post- Brexit immigration system introduced visa requirements for EU citizen which caused lack of workers in different areas and led to delays and struggles in the supply chains. Companies had to find different solutions for the labor crisis like increasing automation and hiring non-EU workers. The effects of the end of free movement will be ongoing and will be a topic for research and observation in the next years

A Workshop to Promote Knowledge on Substance Abuse Among Junior and Senior Anesthesia Students
No full textBackground/Purpose: The profession of a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) can be stressful. The mix of high stress levels, poor coping mechanisms, and easy accessibility to addictive medications can lead to substance abuse among CRNAs. A four-hour workshop provided students with various components such as education on substance abuse, case studies discussions, and role-playing on how to identify substance abuse. Methods: An extensive literature review on substance abuse among CRNAs was performed to develop a workshop on substance abuse for anesthesia students. Educational topics related to substance abuse during the workshop included risk factors, triggering agents, incidence, treatment, and reentry into the workplace. The education focused on substance abuse in the medical setting and particularly among CRNAs. The substance abuse workshop was delivered to 34 nurse anesthesia students at the University of Michigan-Flint/Hurley Medical Center Nurse Anesthesia Program. The author (A. Teri Alef) was the primary lecturer and facilitator. Ms. Susan Bushong, ALSW, a specialist from the Licensing and Regulation Authority at the State of Michigan was a guest speaker. Ms. Bushong provided information on the substance abuse Health Providers Recovery Program (HPRP) offered by the State of Michigan. Students participated in case study discussions and role-play simulations, completed a pre and post-knowledge test with close-ended questions, and submitted a teaching evaluation with both close ended and open-ended questions. Quantitative and qualitative data analyses were performed to analyze the data. Results: The mean scores on the knowledge test increased from 12.07 (out of 20 points) on the pre-test to 19.23 on the post-test. According to the qualitative analysis method of manually categorizing descriptive responses that were written by the anesthesia students, the results of teaching evaluations revealed that most anesthesia students valued the information they received on substance abuse. Students reported that the role-play exercises increased their confidence in the ability to identify a substance abuser. The suggestions offered by the students were insightful for the development of future workshops. One suggestion was to invite anesthesia providers with prior substance abuse problems to be guest speakers. Conclusions: The workshop increased knowledge of substance abuse among students.
