Alex Toth and another Librarian examining a card catalog
Alex Toth, who was a Librarian at Pacific University, and another Librarian (possibly Patricia Sobottka?), examining a card catalog in Pacific's Scott Library in July, 1978. This appears to be the Author catalog, which provided access to the books in Pacific's collections based on the last name of the author. This is one of a set of photographs that appears to have been posed in order to demonstrate the range of work that was taking place in the library

Constraint based personalization
Personalization is defined as a process that facilitates interaction among consumers and providers such that individual consumers are enabled to more readily access the content and services of providers, and individual providers are enabled to more effectively and easily deliver their content and services to consumers. This project presents a personalization framework for web and e-business applications that builds on the architectural model presented by In.stone in [3] as well as foundation work presented by Toth in [1]. This personalization framework incorporates consumer-provider attributes; considers system/network variables; and models personalization as a constraint-based problem. An initial working prototype constraint engine for processing personalization preferences is also built for a prolific messaging application. In this messaging application users collaborate with each other and with web applications using email, instant messaging and short text messaging services employing their PCs, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and cell phones. The users define all the communication channels have a single ID for all their communication channels.
manage their messaging channels by defining preferences 011 how to use their channels. These preferences are then processed by the application through the constraint engine to personalize their communication through the messaging channels

Calendaring specification : interoperability of web-based calendar and Palm Pilot
Interoperability is the ability to enable different systems to work together and exchange data. Interoperability between different systems is achieved by using common standards and specifications. This paper talks about our research work on interoperability in Calendaring and Scheduling. There are many calendaring and scheduling software products on the market but only few of them are interoperable. The goal of my research was to make an existing web-based calendaring system ("The Wise Net" or TWN for short) interoperable with other calendaring systems, in particular, the Palm Pilot. A framework is developed for web based TWN calendar after understanding the interoperability issues that are dealt in other systems like Outlook, iPlanet calendar etc. After a complete understanding of the systems it was found that Outlook and other such popular calendaring systems are based on iCal and iTIP protocol standards. My aim was to discover how to make The Wise Net Calendar support these two protocols and develop a common specification for calendaring and scheduling that would support interoperability of TWN and Palm Pilot calendaring systems.
An initial working prototype is built to make the TWN calendar interoperable with palm pilot. This application synchronizes TWN calendar with the palm pilot calendar. A prototype is also built for synchronizing address book. TWN users can have a mirror image of their web based calendars on their palm pilots. Conduit Development Kit (CDK403) is used to develop the application. Conduits are software plug-ins for the Hotsync Manager application. They exchange and synchronize data between a desktop computer and a Palm OS platform handheld computer.2002 best estimate for issue date and commencement year based on available information
The Autonarratives of Ernest Hemingway (and Others)
Draws on the theories of Kenneth Burke, Julia Kristeva, and others in his examination of the complexity of self-representation found in A Moveable Feast. Toth analyzes Hemingway’s fictional construction of personal experience in “Miss Stein Instructs,” “Ford Madox Ford and the Devil’s Disciple,” “Birth of a New School,” and elsewhere. Concludes that the discreet sketches “emerge as a series of accurate yet always also contingent portraits—of Hemingway as a young author, of other famous writers working in the same place and time, of the specific events that defined the function of writing during the ‘Paris movement.’
LINE WIDTHS OF AND
Author Institution:Collision broadened line widths of and were determined from high resolution spectra covering the bands for both absorbing molecules. The line widths encompassed the spectral regions of the (1200), (2000), (0111), (0201), (1001) and (0002) bands. The band notation is . The and measurements were obtained for samples at room temperature and the spectra were obtained for samples at and . The ) values are compared to best-fit calculated values given in an earlier study by R. A. Toth, J. Mol. Spectrosc. 40, 605-615 (1971)

Short-Term Forecasting of Czech Quarterly GDP Using Monthly Indicators
We evaluate the out-of-sample forecasting performance of six competing models at horizons of up to three quarters ahead in a pseudo-real time setup. All the models use information in monthly indicators released ahead of quarterly GDP. We estimate two models – averaged vector autoregressions and bridge equations – relying on just a few monthly indicators. The remaining four models condition the forecast on a large set of monthly series. These models comprise two standard principal components models, a dynamic factor model based on the Kalman smoother and a generalized dynamic factor model. We benchmark our results to the performance of a naïve model and the historical near-term forecasts of the Czech National Bank’s staff. The findings are also compared with a related study conducted by ECB staff (Barhoumi et al., 2008). In the Czech case, standard principal components is the most precise model overall up to three quarters ahead. However, the CNB staff’s historical forecasts were the most accurate one quarter ahead.Bridge models, dynamic factor models, GDP forecasting, principal components, real-time evaluation.
Fonctionnalisation d’ (endo)fullerène : de la science des matériaux aux applications biomédicales
We have synthesized different π-conjugated system-fullerene dyads for photovoltaic applications, where the donor units were either oligophenylenevinylene (OPV) or oligophenyleneethynylene (OPE) derivatives and for the acceptor, C60 or Y3N@C80 was used. There was an additional requirement for our materials: liquid crystallinity. All the donor units contained a mesogenic promoter in order to induce mesomorphism in the D-A dyad and to control the morphology of the prepared film through supramolecular organization. Apart from that, we investigated the effect of the chemical nature of the donor moiety (ie. lyophilic or amphiphilic), the oligomeric length and multiaddition on the photophysical properties and on the self-assembly. We have synthesized an OPE-Y3N@C80 dyad which is the first trimetallic nitride template endohedral metallofullerene derivative with mesomorphic and photoactive properties.
