India has a vast coastline of 8129 km (including A&N and Lakshadweep islands) with many estuaries, creeks, backwaters, lagoons, and bays. The total brackishwater area available in the country is estimated to be around 1.2 million hectares, 14% of which has the potential for aquaculture use.
