Designing Multicolor Graphics of Plasmonic Metasurfaces through Gradual Protrusion of Particles at Free Interface
Metal nanostructures show plasmonic colors in the absence of pigments, which are promising for various optical applications. Colloidal lithography is one of the cost-effective methods for a wide-area production of plasmonic metasurfaces. However, it remains an important challenge to regioselectively control plasmonic property in a facile and reliable manner. Here, a novel strategy is reported to produce multicolor plasmonic graphics using the gradual protrusion of colloids at a water-resin interface. Particles anchored at free interfaces slowly migrate toward the equilibrium position. Therefore, the degree of protrusion into the opposite phase is determined by the duration of aging. With this phenomenon, dimple arrays with controlled depths is produced by capturing the particles at the water-resin interface through photopolymerization and removing the particles. Directional deposition of aluminum on the dimple arrays renders plasmonically colored surfaces, where the resonant wavelengths, or colors, vary with dimple depth. As the resin is regioselectively photocurable by ultraviolet irradiation through photomasks, plasmonic graphics can be produced. In addition, multi-steps of regioselective photocuring with controlled durations of incubation produce multicolor graphics. The graphics show consistent plasmonic colors for specular reflection while displaying iridescent diffraction colors from hexagonal arrays of dimples for off-specular conditions, enhancing the visibility of graphics.
MadSGM: Multivariate Anomaly Detection with Score-based Generative Models
The time-series anomaly detection is one of the most fundamental tasks for time-series. Unlike the time-series forecasting and classification, the time-series anomaly detection typically requires unsupervised (or self-supervised) training since collecting and labeling anomalous observations are difficult. In addition, most existing methods resort to limited forms of anomaly measurements and therefore, it is not clear whether they are optimal in all circumstances. To this end, we present a multivariate time-series anomaly detector based on score-based generative models, called MadSGM, which considers the broadest ever set of anomaly measurement factors: i) reconstruction-based, ii) density-based, and iii) gradient-based anomaly measurements. We also design a conditional score network and its denoising score matching loss for the time-series anomaly detection. Experiments on five real-world benchmark datasets illustrate that MadSGM achieves the most robust and accurate predictions
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

이 글에서는 농촌 마을의 부활절 의례에서 나타나는 성모의 이미지와 어머니로서 여성이 담당하는 종교적 역할에 주목함으로써, 필리핀 가톨릭에서 위계가 모호해지는 측면을 성(gender)의 관점에서 분석하고자 한다. 성모숭배나 여성이 종교활동을 담당하는 것은 농촌 여성의 사회적 지위와 어떤 관련이 있는가? 이는 토착문화의 성 평등성이 반영된 것인가 아니면 여성의 활동을 제한하는 것인가? 이 글은 이상과 같은 간단한 질문에 대한 답이 간단명료하게 제시될 수 없음을 보여주게 될 것이다. 종교의 제설혼합적 측면용 특정한 권력관계가 위치한 역사적 맥락에 대해 질문하고, 지배에 대한 대응이 보다 복잡하게 그래서 모호하게 구성될 수 있다는 점에 주목하도록 해주기 때문이다.
이하에서는 필리핀 가톨릭에서 봉헌을 바치는 신적 존재는 누구이며 신자들은 어떤 방식으로 이들과 관계를 맺고 유지하는지, 부활절 예수수난사에서 성모는 어떻게 인식되는지, 부활절 고행의 의미는 무엇이며 여생은 어머니로서 어떤 역할을 담당하는지, 그리고 필리핀 가톨릭의 성모 이미지와 가족과 마을 단위의 종교 의례를 책임지는 여성의 역할은 서로 어떻게 관련되는지에 대해 살펴보고자 한다.
The aim of this paper is to analyze the religious context, in which 'Mother Mary' and 'mothering' are essential parts, in Philippine rural village especially during Lent. Filipino Catholicism is characterized by sustaining indigenous belief system and resembling hierarchical relations in real world. Holy Family is a symbol to represent family relationship that accentuates the mother-child bond, and Virgin Mary is deified as close as her son, Jesus. Hierarchies in religious domain become ambiguous because there is room for negotiations for reciprocally defined relations not only between divine spirits and people, but also between participants in rituals.
This paper pays attention to Virgin Mary image in Passion text and the women's mutual networks in performing pabasa(Passion reading), and tries to analyze the historical and cultural dimension of ambiguous hierarchies in gender aspect. Mary's status as mother in Tagalog Passion text has been upgraded further than in original Latin one. It, however, happened after the 19th Century and reveals that relatively equal gender hierarchy has been encroached by patriarchal colonial religion. Matrifocality is one of the major elements to characterize a Filipino family, and the mothers' religious role reinforces such a tendency. It could be interpreted as a sign of high status of women, because religious activities allow women to have authority and morality. On the contrary, however, intensified mother's religious role may be compensation for eliminating women from colonial political and administrative domain, and it shows syncretistic process of applying patriarchal colonial social orders onto relatively equal gender system. 'Deified Virgin Mary' and 'religious mother' are ironic signs showing the intricacies of evaluating women's status in historical and cultural setting
