No full textThis is the final study in a series of six emanating from the UK JISC-funded RoMEO Project (Rights Metadata for Open-archiving) which investigated the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) issues relating to academic author self-archiving of research papers. It reports the results of a survey of 542 academic authors showing the level of protection required for their open-access research papers. It then describes the selection of an appropriate means of expressing those rights through metadata and the resulting choice of Creative Commons licences. Finally it outlines proposals for communicating rights metadata via the Open Archives Initiative’s Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH)

No full textThe enclitic pronominal suffixes in Neo-Mandaic are affixed to nouns and prepositions via two separate strategies. Nearly all nouns and prepositions inherited directly from Classical Mandaic take pronominal suffixes directly. All loanwords, and an extremely circumscribed set of original Mandaic words, receive pronominal suffixes after an enclitic particle, –d-. Rudolph Macuch suggested in his Handbook of Classical and Modern Mandaic that this particle is derived from the Classical Mandaic relative pronoun, d-. The evidence, however, suggests that this particle is an innovation, which ultimately derives from the metathesis of the final two root consonants of Classical Mandaic qam / qadmia ‘to, for’ (Neo-Mandaic qam / qamdi-), from which it spread by analogy to new lexical items.This is a pre-copy-editing, author-produced PDF of an article accepted for publication in The Journal of Semitic Studies following peer review. The Neo-Mandaic Dialect of Khorramshahr
No full textNeo-Mandaic is the only surviving dialect of Aramaic to be recognized as a direct descendant of any of the classical dialects of Late Antiquity. The Mandaeans who speak it are adherents of a pre-Islamic Gnostic sect, the only such sect to survive to the present day. As such, Mandaic may be considered as both a living language of the modern Middle East and also the vehicle of one of the great religious traditions of that region, along with Hebrew, Arabic, and Persian. Unfortunately, Neo-Mandaic is severely endangered, and all signs indicate that the current generation of speakers is likely to be the last. As a description of an endangered language, this work addresses one of the chief concerns of linguists in the 21st century, namely the impending loss of the majority of the world's languages and the immense threat to both linguistic and cultural diversity that it represents. This grammar is the first account of a previously undocumented dialect of Neo-Mandaic, and the most thorough description of any Neo-Mandaic dialect. In addition to a description of its phonology, inflectional paradigms, and morphosyntax, it includes a collection of ten texts, transcribed and translated, as well as a concise lexicon of the vocabulary found within these texts
L’impact psychologique du barème de notation en EPS sur les élèves candidats au brevet d’études du premier cycle au Burkina Faso
No full textRésumé : Au Burkina Faso, l’éducation physique et sportive (EPS) est une discipline inscrite dans le programme d’enseignement et est enseignée obligatoirement dans les établissements primaires et secondaires. Elle est aussi évaluée aux examens de fin d’année comme les autres disciplines. Cette étude explore l’impact psychologique du barème de notation sur les élèves à l’examen du BEPC au Burkina Faso. S’intéressant à deux publics cibles, cette étude s’est d’abord focalisée dans un premier temps sur des élèves puis dans un second temps sur des enseignants d’EPS de la ville de Ouagadougou. Pour la collecte des données, un questionnaire en version papier a été adressé aux élèves pour être renseigné et un autre questionnaire de type google forms a été utilisé en ligne pour recueillir les données auprès des enseignants d’EPS. L’analyse des résultats a permis de rapporter que 47% des élèves estiment que les notes affectent positivement leur confiance, leur motivation et leur engagement dans la pratique des activités physiques. 24% sont négativement affectés et 29% disent ne rien savoir. Chez les enseignants d’EPS, 5% d’enseignants estiment que le barème de notation n’est pas cher ; 34% pensent qu’il est peu cher, 40% l’estiment cher et 21% soutiennent qu’il est très cher. Ces résultats mettent en évidence l’influence du barème de notation actuel sur les performances sportives et le bien être psychologique des élèves en classe d’examen du BEPC au Burkina Faso.
