Detrended Correspondence Analysis axis 1 (solid lines) and axis 2 (dashed lines) for Wishart Lake diatom record (lower panel) and for the past ~7200 cal. yr BP Upper Mallot Lake pollen record (upper panel; raw pollen data from ref. [20] and publicly archived at neotomadb.org). Red lines delineate Wishart Lake diatom zones from cluster analysis; dashed grey line indicates the subdivision of Zone 1. Analysis and diagram generated using the rioja package for R [62].</p

Future Programme of COMPASS at CERN

    No full text
COMPASS at CERN is preparing for a new series of measurements on the nucleon structure comprising deep virtual Compton scattering and hard exclusive meson production using muon beams, as well as Drell-Yan reactions using a polarised proton target and a negative pion beam. The former will mainly constrain the generalised parton distribution H and determine the transverse size of the nucleon, while the latter measurements will provide information on transverse-momentum dependent parton distribution functions. The projected results of the programme and the necessary hardware upgrades are discussed.COMPASS at CERN is preparing for a new series of measurements on the nucleon structure comprising deep virtual Compton scattering and hard exclusive meson production using muon beams, as well as Drell-Yan reactions using a polarised proton target and a negative pion beam. Fluvial Geomorphology on a Glacial Till Plain

Title: Fluvial Geomorphology on a Glacial Till Plain, Author: Alan D. Jackson, Location: ThodeFluvial channel adjustment on a glaciated till plain in Southern Ontario is investigated. Mallot River, a component of the Grand River system is used as an example. Concepts of equilibrium and underfitness are discussed. Field studies include over thirty miles of longitudinal and transverse valley profiles. Laboratory investigation produced a detailed map from air photographs. It contains more than 15,000 First Order segments. Morphometric analyses were conducted using this base. A hierarchy of drainage density is suggested. A comparison with drainage on non-glaciated material concludes the study.ThesisMaster of Science (MS

Deep Inelastic Scattering with the SPS Muon Beam

    No full text
We review results from deep inelastic muon scattering experiments at the SPS which started in 1978, and are still actively pursued today. Key results include the precision measurement of scaling violations and of the strong coupling constant, spin-dependent structure functions, and studies of the internal spin structure of protons and neutrons. These experiments have revealed a wealth of details about the internal structure of nucleons in terms of quarks and gluons

Gluon polarization and associated charm production: experimental aspects
