Approximation by k-th order modifications of Szász-Mirakyan operators
Acar, Tuncer/0000-0003-0982-9459; Rasa, Ioan/0000-0002-5206-030XIn this paper, we study the k-th order Kantorovich type modication of Szasz-Mirakyan operators. We first establish explicit formulas giving the images of monomials and the moments up to order six. Using this modification, we present a quantitative Voronovskaya theorem for differentiated Szasz-Mirakyan operators in weighted spaces. The approximation properties such as rate of convergence and simultaneous approximation by the new constructions are also obtained

Differences in metal profiles revealed by native mussels and artificial mussels in Sarcay Stream, Turkey: implications for pollution monitoring
0000-0002-2139-7655WOS: 000442365500005Using the native mussel Unio crassus and artificial mussels (AMs), profiles of 11 metals (Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, U, Zn) were determined and compared in winter and summer along a pollution gradient in Sarcay Stream, Turkey. Principal components analysis and correlation analysis showed that metal profiles in the native mussels and AMs were different. Concentrations of most metals were significantly higher in the native mussels compared with AMs, suggesting that metals in Sarcay Stream predominantly existed in suspended particulates and food compartments, rather than in dissolved form. Although U was not readily accumulated by the native mussels, it could be taken up by AMs. Overall, the results suggest that the use of native mussels and AMs in water quality monitoring can provide complementary information and a better estimate and coverage of different metal species and forms in aquatic environments.Scientific Research Project Office of Mugla Sitki Kocman University [13/72]; Education University of Hong Kong [R3721]This work was supported by the Scientific Research Project Office of Mugla Sitki Kocman University (Project number: 13/72) awarded to Tuncer Genc, and a start-up grant from the Education University of Hong Kong (R3721) awarded to Rudolf Wu. İsmet ALTINTAŞ Dr. A. Nihal TUNCER June 2000, 35 pages This thesis consist of five parts. In the first chapter, general knowledges about the series and summability were given. In the second part, some fundamental definitions and theorems have been given. In the third part, two theorems that give the relations between |C,l| and İN, pn| I 'K I İK summability methods, have been expressed and proved. In the fourth part, by taking the İN, q I summability method instead of |C,l| I Ik. i 'k summability method which was given in the second part, a theorem about the relation between the two summability methods is expressed and proved. At the fifth part, two theorems that generalize the Theorem 3.1 and Theorem 3.2 which were given in second part, has been expressed and proved
A Brief Look at Automation Activities in Turkish University Libraries
Turkey, one of the cradles of civilisation, is a republic founded by Kemal Ataturk in 1923 after the collapse of the 600-year-old Ottoman Empire. Its location in two continents (Europe and Asia) has been a central factor in its history, culture and politics; Turkey has often been called a bridge between East and West. Turkey, Islamic in tradition, is a newly industrialised democratic nation of 55 million people.
In Turkey, there are 29 universities (28 state and one private). They are governed by a common law, namely the Higher Education Act. The majority of universities have decentralised libraries, which is largely due to the fact
that there has been no legislation or by-laws that specifically govern the establishment and organisation of libraries within a university. The importance of computers for library and information centres has long been recognised in Turkey. The history of computer use goes back to the early 1970s when university libraries started to use computers mainly for 'batch' jobs, such as the production of a union catalogue of serials, acquisition lists and the like. In a recent survey it was shown that almost all university libraries have a strong interest in automation1. Some have been planning to computerise their operations, whilst others are considering this option seriously. The existing computer use in university libraries is heavily centred in the following operations: union lists of serials and books, circulation control, acquisition, cataloguing and current awareness
Reconstruction of Baskakov operators preserving some exponential functions
acar, tuncer/0000-0003-0982-9459The present paper deals with a new modification of Baskakov operators in which the functions exp(mu t) and exp(2 mu t), mu > 0 are preserved. Approximation properties of the operators are captured, ie, uniform convergence and rate of convergence of the operators in terms of modulus of continuity, approximation behaviors of the operators exponential weighted spaces, and pointwise convergence of the operators by means of the Voronovskaya theorem. Advantages of the operators for some special functions are presented.Selcuk University Scientific Research Projects CoordinationSelcuk UniversityThe second author is supported by Selcuk University Scientific Research Projects Coordination

Cadmium Toxicity in Wheat: Impacts on Element Contents, Antioxidant Enzyme Activities, Oxidative Stress, and Genotoxicity
Catav, Sukru Serter/0000-0002-9934-254X; genc, tuncer okan/0000-0002-2139-7655WOS: 000497412200001PubMed ID: 31748863Cadmium (Cd) pollution is constantly increasing in agricultural systems due to anthropogenic activities and causes significant reductions in the yield of crop species. In this study, we aimed to determine the effect of Cd stress on growth, element contents, oxidative damage, antioxidant enzyme activities, and genotoxicity in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). To achieve this goal, 7-day-old wheat seedlings were subjected to different concentrations of Cd(NO3)(2)center dot 4H(2)O (250, 500, and 1000 mu M) for 4 days. The results show that Cd stress induces growth inhibition, oxidative injury, and genotoxicity in wheat seedlings. Moreover, the highest concentration of Cd treatment led to a significant increase in the activities of antioxidant enzymes, except for catalase. In addition, a dramatic decrease was observed in K and Ca contents in response to Cd treatments. Overall, our findings suggest that even short-term exposure to Cd can impair key physiological processes influencing growth, oxidative homeostasis, and genomic stability in wheat.Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit of Mugla Sitki Kocman UniversityMugla Sitki Kocman University [17/139]This study was funded by the Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit of Mugla Sitki Kocman University (Grant Number: 17/139)
Blending Type Approximation By Bezier-Summation-Integral Type Operators
Acar, Tuncer/0000-0003-0982-9459In this note we construct the Bezier variant of summation integral type operators based on a non-negative real parameter. We present a direct approximation theorem by means of the first order modulus of smoothness and the rate of convergence for absolutely continuous functions having a derivative equivalent to a function of bounded variation. In the last section, we study the quantitative Voronovskaja type theorem.Research Project of Kirikkale University, BAP (Turkey) [2017/014]The first author is partially supported by Research Project of Kirikkale University, BAP, 2017/014 (Turkey)
