Juli 2009 in Berlin-Dahlem Gesundheit wächst im Garten – biologisch gärtnern Gärten sind ein unverzichtbarer Bestandteil unserer Gesellschaft. Sie sind Balsam für die Seele, sie versorgen die Menschen mit Nahrungsmitteln und Blumen, sie sind Anreiz für künstlerische Kreativität und sie sind nicht zuletzt die wichtigsten Refugien der biologischen Vielfalt in urbanen Siedlungsräumen. Diese Fachveranstaltung sollte die vielfältigen Beziehungen zwischen Gärten und dem Wohlergehen der Menschen fokussieren. Sie wurde erstmals gemeinsam von der Deutschen Gartenbau-Gesellschaft (DGG) 1822 e.V. und dem Julius Kühn-Institut, Bundesforschungsinstitut für Kulturpfl anzen organisiert und sollte Grundlage für eine Vielzahl zukünftiger Aktivitäten zur Förderung der Gartenkultur in Deutschland sein. Health actually grows in the garden – biological gardening Gardens are an integral part of our society. They are like balm for the soul, they supply their users with food crops and fl owers, they are inspiration for artists’ creativity, and last but not least they are the most important refuges of biological diversity in urban landscapes. This conference should bring into focus the manifold linkages between gardens and human well-being. It was for the fi rst time jointly organized by the German Horticultural Society 1822 (DGG) and the Julius Kühn-Institut, Federal Research Centre for Cultivated Plants and should prepare the ground for a variety of future activities aimed at promoting garden culture in Germany

No full textVom 17. bis 19.11.2009 fand das 2. Nachwuchswissenschaftler-Forum des Julius Kühn-Institutes statt. In Berlin- Dahlem trafen sich über 50 junge Forscherinnen und Forscher zum gegenseitigen wissenschaftlichen Austausch. Sie präsentieren ihre aktuellen Ergebnisse aus den Themenbereichen Züchtungsforschung/Züchtung, Pflanzenschutz/Phytopathologie sowie zu Pflanzenbau, Bodenkunde und weiteren Themen. Schwerpunkte und Stand der Arbeiten sind im vorliegenden Tagungsband dargestellt. The Second Young Scientists Forum organized by the Julius Kühn-Institute took place from 17 to 19 November 2009. More than 50 young researchers attended the conference in Berlin and enjoyed a mutual scientific exchange. Presenting their recent research results, the participants addressed key issues from the fields of breeding research and plant breeding, plant protection and phytopathology, plant cultivation and soil sciences, along with other topics. The focal points and current state of their scientific work are recorded in the present proceedings

No full text<p>What's new in Julius-4.5 Improved VAD</p>
<p>A WebRTC-based voice activity detection (VAD) was introduced to improve voice detection: <a href="https://github.com/dpirch/libfvad">https://github.com/dpirch/libfvad</a></p>
<p>Now Julius has two VAD modules: old module (input level and zero-cross based) and the new module (libfvad = model based). Both of them runs concurrently in parallel for an audio input. When the new module is enabled, Julius will detect speech trigger only if <em>both of them outputs speech flag</em>.</p>
<p>Use <code>-fvad</code> option to enable. See <a href="https://github.com/julius-speech/julius/blob/master/Release.txt">Release.txt</a> or <a href="https://github.com/julius-speech/julius/blob/master/julius/Options.md">julius/Options.md</a> how to use it.</p>
<p>DNN-HMM CPU multi-threading</p>
<p>DNN-HMM computation now supports CPU multi-threading. Multi-threading may speed up DNN-HMM computation to some extent. The number of threads can be specified by <code>num_threads</code> in <a href="https://github.com/julius-speech/julius/blob/master/Sample.dnnconf">dnnconf</a>. This feature is enabled by default, and the default number of threads is 2.</p>
<p>XML special character escape on module mode output</p>
<p>Notice for module-mode users: in order to make module output <a href="https://www.w3.org/TR/xml/#syntax">XML-compliant</a>, the XML special characters are now escaped, ex. '>' to '>'. A backward-compat option <code>-noxmlescape</code> is available to inhibit the new escaping feature and go back to the same behavior as previous versions.</p>
<p>Moving to UTF-8</p>
<p>We have moved to UTF-8. The codes and documents in master branch has been unified to UTF-8 encoding.</p>
<p>For backward compatibility and make log tracking easy, the recent release codes with old encoding is kept at branch <a href="https://github.com/julius-speech/julius/tree/master-4.5-legacy">"master-4.5-legacy"</a>. If you want to see the code before the release of 4.5 (2019/1/2) in old encoding, please checkout the kept branch.</p>

Sara Scholder and her daughter Rosa were deported From Vienna, Rembrandtstrasse 39/9 on December 3, 1941, to the Riga ghetto, where they died. Julius’ other sister, Fanny Roth, and her family first escaped to Holland, but then died in concentration camps. Julius’ brothers Robert and Max escaped the Nazis. Julius Scholder, his wife Charlotte, née Spitzer and their son Herbert arrived in New York in September of 1939
