A New Nelala (Odonata: Frenguelliidae) from the Eocene of Arroyo Chacay, Patagonia, Argentina
A new species of Odonata, Nelala chacay sp. nov., from the Eocene of Northern Patagonia, Argentina, is described. The new species is the sixth one of the endemic Patagonian Eocene family Frenguelliidae. Nelala chacay sp. nov. is characterized mainly by the five postdiscoidal cells between MA and MP, and a RP3+4 only two cells and a half basal to subnodus.Fil: Petrulevicius, Julian Fernando. A new genus of Frenguelliidae (Insecta: Odonata) from Arroyo Chacay, Eocene of Patagonia, Argentina
A new genus and species of fossil Odonata, Chacayala campeona gen. et sp. nov., fromthe Eocene of Arroyo Chacay, Eocene of Patagonia, Argentina is described. Arroyo Chacay is theleast known locality of the Eocene Caldera Lake deposits of Northern Patagonia. The new genus isthe fourth in the family Frenguelliidae. Chacayala gen. nov. is characterized mainly by the shorterpostdiscoidal field in comparison with the other genera of the family.Fil: Petrulevicius, Julian Fernando. A new species of “Orthophlebiidae” (Insecta: Mecoptera) from the Middle Jurassic of Inner Mongolia, China
A new species of “Orthophlebiidae”, Orthophlebia riccardii n. sp., is described from the Middle Jurassic of Inner Mongolia, China. Males of the genus have the last segments of the abdomen enlarged and modified with spurs and projections ending in clamp like dististyli. The new species can be distinguished from all known species by its bigger size and the presence of a distinct organization of the abdomen of the male.Fil: Petrulevicius, Julian Fernando. A New Genus and Species of Damsel-Dragonfly (Odonata: Isophlebioidea: Campterophlebiidae) in the Middle Jurassic of Inner Mongolia, China
The campterophlebiid new genus and species Ctenogampsophlebia reni is described from the Middle Jurassic of Inner Mongolia, China. It shows close similarities with the Lower to Middle Jurassic genera Gampsophlebia, and Petrophlebia, with closed and short subdiscoidal cells, confirming the attribution of these two other genera to the Campterophlebiidae.Fil: Petrulevicius, Julian Fernando. A new Frenguelliidae (Insecta: Odonata) from the Eocene of Arroyo Chacay, Patagonia, Argentina
The family Frenguelliidae Petrulevičius & Nel, 2003 was hitherto known from two genera and three species: Frenguellia patagonica Petrulevičius & Nel, 2003, F. iglesiasi Petrulevičius & Nel, 2013 and Treintamilun vuelvenlucha Petrulevičius, 2017. Frenguelliidae is a very interesting group, controversially considered either an Epiproctophora, basal to Euepiproctophora by Petrulevičius & Nel (2003, 2007, 2013) and Petrulevičius et al. (2011), or a Zygoptera by Nel & Arillo (2006), Nel et al. (2008), Lak et al. (2009) and Bechly & Poinar (2013). Only the epiproctophoran hypothesis was discussed and based principally in a putative character of the group, the curved CuP (Petrulevičius & Nel, 2003, 2007, 2013). The zygopteran hypothesis could be reasonably adopted due to the presence in Frenguelliidae of a character which is absent in the basal Epiproctophora: the IR2 aligned with the subnodus (Petrulevičius, 2017).Fil: Petrulevicius, Julian Fernando. First argiolestid damselfly (Odonata: Zygoptera) from the late Palaeocene of Northwest Argentina
Megapodagrionids in the wide sense are a polyphyletic group of damselflies (Huang et al., 2018). In recent studies there is a tendency to restrict the Megapodagrionidae only to few genera, and to over rank some subfamilies such as Philosininae and Argiolestinae to family level (Kalkman & Theischinger, 2013; Dijkstra et al., 2014). These efforts are based on nymphal (Kalkman et al., 2010) and wing characters (Kalkman & Theischinger, 2013).Fil: Petrulevicius, Julian Fernando. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
A New Damselfly Family from the Upper Palaeocene of Argentina
A new family of damselflies based on Latibasalia elongata gen. et sp. nov. is erected from the upper Paleocene Maíz Gordo Formation, north-western Argentina. Latibasaliidae fam. nov. could be included into the Zygoptera: Caloptera: Eucaloptera: Amphipterygida: Amphipterygoidea. It phylogenetic relationships within the clade Eucaloptera Bechly, 1996 are discussed. Within Amphipterygoidea, Latibasaliidae could be closely related to Pseudolestidae or to the 'thaumatoneurid' genera Petrolestes and Congqingia because they share the absence of secondary antenodal crossveins of first and second rows and absence of antesubnodal crossveins. These characters could be potential synapomorphies of these taxa but they are somewhat homoplastic within the Zygoptera.Fil: Petrulevicius, Julian Fernando. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
