The aim of this bachelor thesis is to provide a Czech translation of selected excerpts from the scientific book Animals in Our Midst: The Challenges of Co-existing with Animals in the Anthropocene, which was written by Bernice Bovenkerk and Jozef Keulartz in cooperation with several other scholars from the Wageningen University, Radboud University Nijmegen, Michigan State University, and others. This thesis consists of two parts. The first part contains a Czech translation of an extract from Chapter 14: The Decisions of Wannabe Dog Keepers in The Netherlands written by Susan Ophorst and Bernice Bovenkerk. The second part presents a commentary on the translation, which focuses on analysing the source text and addresses problematic parts and translation shifts that arose as a result of the translation process.Cílem této bakalářské práce je zprostředkovat český překlad vybraných částí z odborné publikace Animals in Our Midst: The Challenges of Co-existing with Animals in the Anthropocene, na jejímž vzniku se podíleli Bernice Bovenkerk a Jozef Keulartz ve spolupráci s řadou dalších akademiků působících mimo jiné na Wageninské univerzitě, Radboud University v Nijmegenu a Michiganské státní univerzitě. Tato práce sestává ze dvou částí. Obsahem první části této práce je překlad části kapitoly 14: The Decisions of Wannabe Dog Keepers in The Netherlands, kterou napsaly Susan Ophorst a Bernice Bovenkerk. Vernieuwing zonder traditie? Gemengde gevoelens over de kenniseconomie
In het huidige tijdperk van hypes en hoge verwachtingen van high-tech innovaties is er weinig aandacht voor traditionele low-tech kennis. Voor het duurzaam beheer van natuurlijke hulpbronnen is de verdringing van traditionele door moderne technologieën in menig opzicht fataal gebleken. In zijn afscheidsrede illustreert Jozef Keulartz deze stelling aan de hand van de tegenstelling tussen traditionele en moderne irrigatietechnologieën
