Dataset: U.S. Public University Responses to Public Records Requests for Structured Data

    No full text
Excel spreadsheetThis dataset is the product of a study that assessed how public universities in the United States respond to public records requests of varying complexity for structured data. When a university provided a substantive response, the following variables were coded: 1. Nature of response: Whether the university produced responsive data, produced or offered different data than what we requested, asserted there were no records, required prepayment before processing, required in-person inspection, or denied the request. 2. Response time: The number of business days (i.e., omitting weekends and holidays) from the day after a request was filed to the day a substantive response was received. 3. Format: The format that data were released: Excel, CSV, PDF, or web page. 4. New record: Whether the university expressly asserted that it is not obligated to create a new record in response to a public records request. 5. Fee estimate: The amount of money a university estimated it would cost to process the request.Anderson, Jonathan; Wiley, Sarah K.. (2021). R U Up for the Challenge? A Partnership to Measure Library Impact on Student Learning: Rutgers University Libraries & Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Degree Achievement Program

    No full text
Rutgers University Libraries seek to support the goal of the Rutgers University Mission Assessment and Alignment Planning system (MAAP) which is "to clarify the contributions of various programs and units to the fulfillment of the Rutgers-New Brunswick undergraduate educational experience mission/goals, and to facilitate and encourage assessment and alignment of outcomes and progress toward those goals." Toward this end, the Libraries have focused on measuring the impact of its instruction program via the McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program (MPBAP). This prestigious program provides a unique opportunity to track cohorts of students over 10 years. The goal is to have these students enroll in doctoral programs. We are seeking to find out: Do students in the Bibliography & Research Techniques library class in the Summer Research Institute of the MPBAP retain and transfer information literacy skills to other courses and academic research as they persist in the MPBAP program? In addition to the assessment instruments already in use by the McNair department, (Graduate Student Profile Progress Report) for long term impact, other instruments are being used by the Libraries: pre-post tests and surveys. This poster will present the assessment methods in place as we begin to track our first cohort (Summer 2015).This project is part of the program “Assessment in Action: Academic Libraries and Student Success” which is undertaken by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) in partnership with the Association for Institutional Research and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. The program, a cornerstone of ACRL's Value of Academic Libraries initiative, is made possible by the Institute of Museum and Library Services

INTRODUCTION The John Wiley & Sons L A T E X book style is an option which should be used with the standard L A T E X book style to create either single- or multiple-author (contributed) books. Fully marked-up examples of both types of book, including the preliminary pages, table of contents, a chapter, references, appendix and an index are provided. The single-author book example can be found in lasample.tex, and the contributed book one in cbook.tex, which includes a chapter jwcbsp01.tex. BEGINNING A BOOK Single-author book Each book starts with the information required for the title page, then the call for the table of contents, and the start of the first chapter, as follows: \documentstyle[jwbook]{book} \begin{document} \title{\LaTeX \\ Sample Output} \edition{First Edition} \author{J. Conformational motions of HIV-1 protease identified using reversible digitally filtered molecular dynamics

    No full text
HIV-1 protease performs a vital step in the propagation of the HIV virus and is therefore an important drug target in the treatment of AIDS. It consists of a homodimer, with access to the active site limited by two protein flaps. NMR studies have identified two time scales of motions that occur in these flaps, and it is thought that the slower of these is responsible for a conformational change that makes the protein ligand-accessible. This motion occurs on a time scale outside that achievable using traditional molecular dynamics simulations. Reversible Digitally Filtered Molecular Dynamics (RDFMD) is a method that amplifies low frequency motions associated with conformational change and has recently been applied to, among others, E. coli dihydrofolate reductase, inducing a conformational change between known crystal structures. In this paper, the conformational motions of HIV-1 protease produced during MD and RDFMD simulations are presented, including movement between the known semiopen and closed conformations, and the opening and closing of the protein flaps

The homopolymer, poly(3-hydroxyoctanoate), P(3HO), as a matrix material for soft tissue engineering

The homopolymer poly(3-hydroxyoctanoate), P(3HO) produced from Pseudomonas mendocina using octanoate as carbon feed was studied as a potential biomaterial for soft tissue engineering i.e. as cardiac patch and as matrices for skin tissue engineering. The polymer was fabricated into neat solvent cast films of 5 and 10 wt %. Microstructural studies revealed the films as having smooth surface topography with a root mean square (RMS) value of 0.238 µm. The films also possessed moderate hydrophilicity when compared to other monomers of the PHA family. Stress-strain curves of the films obtained was typical of that of elastomeric polymers. This elastomeric and flexible nature of the films makes them promising candidates for the proposed applications. Biocompatibility studies using the HaCaT keratinocyte cell line showed that the films were able to support the attachment, differentiation and maturation of the HaCaT cells. In vitro degradation studies over a period of 4 months showed that the water absorption and weight loss increased progressively with time for the films. The films underwent hydrolytic degradation initiated on the surface and also showed an ageing effect

Entomologist Jonathan Majer is a world pioneer in using ants as indicators of restoration success. With hundreds of published works to his name (and five species of ants named after him), he reflects in this interview on his undimming passion for learning and teaching about invertebrates - a group of animals that can include up to 95% of faunal species in a reference community
