Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
European Energy Pathways - Pathways to sustainable european energy systems
To meet the challenge of climate change, the world must substaintially reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs). this must be accomplished in a way that maintains security of supply and competitiveness.
This book presents to pathways towards sustainable European energy systems - the "Policy Pathway" and the "Market Pathway". These to pathways differ with respect to where the main responsability lies for transforming the energy system in following the pathway. The Policy pathway takes its departure from the EU Energy and Climate Package, and has a strong focus on targeted policies that promote energy efficiency and energy from renewable sources. The Market Pathway relies more on the market to transform the energy system, and presents a future in which the cost associated with emitting CO2 (and other GHGs) is the dominating policy measure.
This book describes the research that has been carried out during the first period (2006-2010) of the AGS project "Pathways to Sustsainable Energy Systems". This interdisciplinary project involved more than 40 researchers and addressed various aspects of the challenges faced in transforming the European energy system. The chapters in this book cover more than 30 topics and presents an overall picture of the results obtained to date from various activities in the Pathways project

This book describes the research that has been carried out during the first period (2006-2010) of the Alliance for Global Sustainability (AGS) project "Pathways to Sustainable European Energy Systems". this interdisciplinary project involves more that 40 researchers and addresses various aspects of the challenges faced in transforming the European energy system. Presented in this book are the energy-related methods and models that originate from different scientific disciplines and traditions and that were applied in the Pathways project. Some of the analytical tools are well-known, well-documented, and widely used in academic research. Others have been developed (or refined) during the Pathways project and are therefore unique. The chapters of this book cover around 30 different methods and models used in the Pathways project and presents an overview of the processes through which the research was conducted and the methods and models were co-ordinated
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Hydrogen storage for variable renewable electricity integration : techno-economic analysis of a lined rock cavern system
LAUREA MAGISTRALEIn un futuro con crescente attenzione alla riduzione delle emissioni e alla decarbonizzazione dell’industria, l’accumulo in larga scala, sotto forma di idrogeno gassoso, potrebbe aiutare a mitigare la discontinua produzione di energia elettrica dovuta all’alta penetrazione di energie rinnovabili. Inizialmente è stata realizzata una panoramica delle varie technologie di accumulo esistenti, per poter valutare la potenzialità dell’idrogeno in questo settore.
Durante una internship nell’Energy Division della Chalmers University of Technology, è stato sviluppato un modello su Matlab per simulare il funzionamento di un sistema di Lined Rock Caverns (LRC) per storage di idrogeno su larga scala. I sistemi di LRC offrono grandi capacità di accumulo, fornendo una valida opzione per l’accumulo stagionale, ad oggi garantito solo da applicazioni basate sul gas naturale. I dati di input per il modello sono schemi di produzione e consumo di idrogeno di una nazione Europea, basati su un anno di funzionamento con una risoluzione temporale di tre ore e sui risultati di un modello di ottimizzazione dei costi della rete elettrica sviluppato dalla stessa Energy Division dell’università ospitante.
Il modello ha dato come risultato un’analisi tecno-economica dell’impianto di LRC, producendo gli andamenti delle proprietà del gas all’interno della caverna durante il funzionamento e il costo di distribuzione dell’idrogeno in vari scenari. In base alla particolare applicazione, è stata poi analizzata la fattibilità economica. Infine l’impatto dei costi dei sistemi di LRC è stato studiato per dedurre il potenziale dell’idrogeno in scenari di produzione ed accumulo di energia elettrica futuri.In a future with increasing focus on emissions reduction and industry decarbonization, large scale storage, in the form of gaseous hydrogen storage, could help to mitigate the fluctuating electricity production provided by an increasing share of renewables. At first an overview of the existing storage options has been carried on in order to initially assess hydrogen potential.
During an internship at the Energy Division of Chalmers University of technology, a Matlab model was developed to simulate the operation of a Lined Rock Cavern (LRC) system for large scale hydrogen storage purposes. LRC systems offer very high capacity storage, providing an option for seasonal storage, only available today with natural gas applications. Input data for the model were based on a year of operation with three-hour time-steps and consisted in future hydrogen production and consumption patterns of a European country, taken from a cost optimization model of the power grid developed by the same Energy Division of the host university.
The model resulted in a techno-economic analysis of the LRC plant, producing gas physical parameters trends during operation as well as hydrogen delivery costs in different scenarios. Based on the particular application, the economical feasibility of LRC storage has been considered. Finally, the impact of LRC costs has been studied to understand the potential of hydrogen in future power production and storage scenarios

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
