Wendell F. Johnson Interview
Wendell F. Johnson was born on July 28, 1893 in Toledo. As a young man he was a reporter for the Toledo Times and was nicknamed "Scoop." Mr. Johnson was an army veteran of World War l. He graduated from Michigan State Normal College and earned a masters degree from the University of Toledo. He directed the Toledo Child and Family Agency for 34 years and retired in 1959. He was recognized as one of the nation's top social administrators in the late 1950s. He was also active in Toledo public affairs as the secretary of the Commission on Publicity and Efficiency and had been the first editor of the Toledo City Journal. Family Services of Greater Toledo honored him in 1979, on its 75th anniversary. Mr. Johnson wrote a booklet,"Child and Family Service in Toledo," which tells about the agency's activities from 1904. He died at the age of 94 in Columbus, Ohio
