strengths perspective help to guide practice. Likewise, as I wanted to evaluate my own
effectiveness in this occupation I will use relational theory to explore this in depth.
Lastly, I will explain the importance of ethical practice in cancer care and suggest areas

Social work practice in school counselling: a bio-psycho-social understanding of students who need support
No full textA Practicum Report Submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Social Work, University of Regina. iv, 76 p.This practicum report is a summary of my MSW field practicum placement in a school counselling role at Warman Elementary School (WES), including one day per week counselling adolescents at Warman High School (WHS). My primary site was WES, a kindergarten to grade three school of 736 students where my practice was supervised by a full-time counsellor. The school counselling role primarily involves individual and group counselling, behavioural intervention, and consultation and collaboration with other professionals. This report integrates theory, research, and intervention models with my experiences counselling children in the school context. It will describe how I met my practicum learning objectives, gaining knowledge and experience in the theory and practice models utilized by my professional associate (PA). These approaches included attachment-informed, collaborative problem solving, self-regulation, cognitive behavioural therapy, and resilience. In this paper, I will reflect on the value of a social work perspective in school counselling, exploring how the bio-psycho-social and ecological approaches of the profession enrich the school counselling role. Finally, the paper will consider my practicum experiences through the lenses of social justice and ethics.Studentye
Wellness blankets: effects of textile based art on those with (dis)abilities
No full textA Practicum Report Submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Social Work, University of Regina. iv, 69 p.The research question that guides this research practicum is: does participation in a textile based art group aide in an increase in wellness for those with (dis)abilities? The goal was to research the effects of participation in a textile based art group for those who self-identify as (dis)abled. This study used a qualitative, multiple case study method to interview five textile based art participants and their service providers. I used interviews from the participants and the care providers, field notes, researcher observations, observations from Creative Options Regina staff, and the Wellness Assessment results to obtain data. Each participant attended a nine hour textile based art group facilitated by the researcher. These five participants attended one of two textile based art groups that were facilitated. During each group participants created a nine block tie blanket. The service providers were also invited to attend the textile based art group if the participants wished to have them present, of the five participants four service providers did not attend the groups and one attended the group. Therefore information obtained from service providers was mainly from their observations before and after the participant’s group attendance and from information participants shared with them. Overall, all the participants and their service providers expressed the feeling that participation in a textile based art group resulted in an increase in positive emotions, increased feelings of social inclusion and an increased sense of pride. Additional effects were identified by some but not all of the participants, and some of the service providers; these effects were stress reduction, increased independence, and the rekindling of fine motor skills.Studentye

No full textA Practicum Report Submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Social Work, University of Regina. v, 50 p.This practicum report describes my practicum experience in the Mental Health and Addictions department (MHAD) of the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA). In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Master of Social Work (MSW) degree program at the University of Regina, this practicum focused on integrating trauma informed care (TIC) into social work practice within a health care system. The report outlines the theoretical underpinnings of the TIC approach and discusses both the opportunities and challenges of using TIC for system-wide transformative social work practice. It also highlights the benefits of TIC such as avoiding re-traumatization and ensuring best interest of clients, both of which require an understanding of trauma and the impact it has on patient functioning. Through a narrative approach that includes personal reflections, field journals, and stories, I discuss the TIC literature and incorporate systems theory and anti-oppressive theory specifically, in interrogating the challenges I faced in achieving my goals. Finally, in the report, I proffer recommendations to enable the Saskatoon Health Authority to alleviate the adverse effects of trauma on clients and employees by integrating TIC into all levels of staff training, as well as micro and macro practice. I argue that TIC is basically good social work and is therefore relevant to a large interdisciplinary system such as SHA seeking to put clients first by prioritizing their best interest. Trauma Informed Care enhances patient outcomes and effective community reintegration through a systems theory informed wholistic treatment that reflects the core social work code of ethics, values and principles of practice.Studentye
The perspective of clinical caseworkers on the developmental trauma experiences of youth living in group homes at Ranch Ehrlo
No full textA Practicum Report Submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Social Work, University of Regina. vii, 79 p.Trauma is a common problem experienced by marginalized children, youth, and their families. It affects physical health, mental health, and relationships and often manifests as problematic behavior for which youth within the child welfare system in Canada are institutionalized. This research utilizes a critical realist perspective of disability, a developmental trauma disorder (DTD) approach, and ethnographic methods with the aim to understand the perspectives of caseworkers working with youth who have experienced trauma and are now residing in Ranch Ehrlo Society’s (RES) group homes. The data collection consisted of six semi-structured interviews with clinical caseworkers who work in RES’s residential programs. According to the data, the youth present trauma exposure and symptoms and behaviors as described by DTD diagnostic criteria. Other findings that emerged include the community, familial, and child welfare factors that contribute to the trauma; considerations for trauma-informed care; and resilience. In conclusion, a DTD approach and a critical realist perspective contribute to inform the problem in an innovative and coherent manner, offering social workers knowledge in advocating for social justice, developing professional competency, and enhancing interdisciplinary work.Studentye
An integrated community-centered clinical approach to social work: practicing within a school and community setting

The purpose of the practicum was to gain graduate level social work knowledge and practice as it relates to an integrated approach to social work practice through facilitating the role of school counsellor within the school. This report provides a description of the theoretical approaches of an integrated Community-Centered Clinical practice, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and a Two-Eyed Seeing approach; and how integrating these theoretical approaches creates a culturally- informed and integrated (micro and macro) social work practice. This report outlines the application of these approaches through the practice of individual counselling, group work, community initiatives, and interdisciplinary teamwork in order to provide benefits to the students and the community. Through sharing stories and personal reflections which are framed within the literature, this report provides insights into developing cultural competency within social work practice and the challenges associated with integrating Indigenous and Western knowledges and worldviews. Lastly, this report suggests that building a holistic approach to social work practice requires an understanding of the benefits of an integrated approach to practice that embraces the value of both micro and macro practice, and the importance of developing cultural competency when working with members of Indigenous communities.Studentye
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
