Some aspects of family and delinquency in works of Majda Pšunder
V magistrski nalogi smo proučili nekatere vidike družine in delinkvence v delih pedagoginje Majde Pšunder. Izhajali smo iz njene biografije, saj se je avtorica na svoji bogati akademski poti ukvarjala tudi s področjem družine in odklonskosti mladih. Za potrebe naloge smo izbrana dela, ki se tako ali drugače navezujejo na omenjeno tematiko, kronološko razvrstili in predstavili njihove pomembne vsebinske značilnosti, teoretična izhodišča in rezultate raziskav. Družina je primarna družbena skupina, ki z vzorom, postavljanjem mej, doslednostjo, komunikacijo in učenjem samostojnosti in svobode, otroka usmerja na pot življenja. Z odraščanjem in vključevanjem v vzgojno-izobraževalne institucije otroku ni več družina edini identifikacijski vzorec. Pojavijo se tudi drugi dejavniki, ki lahko vplivajo na otrokovo dojemanje sveta in odklonsko vedenje, ki se najpogosteje kaže v šoli. Šola je vzgojno-izobraževalna ustanova z izdelanim vzgojnim načrtom, ki v primeru otrokovega odklonskega vedenja poseže po alternativnih vzgojnih ukrepih in kasneje tudi po pravnih vzgojnih ukrepih. Za uspešen razvoj mladostnika in adolescenta je pomembno sodelovanje staršev in učiteljev.
Za potrebe magistrskega dela smo z avtorico opravili osebni individualni vodeni intervju, ker so nas zanimali njeni motivi za akademsko pot, za raziskovanje tega področja, njeni cilji in zadovoljstvo. Izvedli pa smo še intervjuje s sedmimi sodelavci prof. dr. Majde Pšunder.Master thesis studies and researches various aspects of family and delinquency in works written by teacher and educator Ms Majda Pšunder. Research originates in her biography as the author has dealt in depth with the aspect of family and youth delinquency in her abundant academic career. For the purposes of this master thesis her chosen works have been chronologically reordered and later on presented through their important content characteristics, theoretical basis and research results. Family is a primary unit which by setting examples and boundaries, consistency, communication and teaching about independence and freedom leads and directs a child through life. With growing up and being integrated in educational institutions family no longer presents a primary identification pattern to a child. Other factors interfere and effect child\u27s perspective of the world and delinquent behaviour which is most frequently seen at school. School is an educational institution with a ready-made educational plan and in case of a child\u27s delinquent behaviour it acts according to the alternative disciplinary measures and later on proper disciplinary measures. Consistent cooperation between parents and teachers is most important for a successful child\u27s and teenager\u27s development.
For the purposes of this master thesis personal individual interview with the author herself has been carried out as we were interested in motifs for her academic path as well as her interests in this specific field, personal goals and contentment. Interviews with seven other associates of professor Majda Pšunder PhD have been carried out

A new synthesis of the economic history of the Middle Ages (Thomas Ertl, Bauer und Banker. Wirtschaft im Mittelalter, wbg Theiss, Darmstadt 2021, 288pp)
The article is an analysis of a book by the Austrian historian Thomas Ertl. It is a new and original history of the economic life in the Middle Ages. The author not only discusses the main economic phenomena, but also devotes much space to the social and cultural dimension of the history of the medieval economy. The book abounds in a variety of details including those concerning demography or the semiotics of manufacturing and commercial activities. The author skilfully presents the realities of the medieval economy by comparing them with analogous phenomena and figures from the twentieth century. An important part of this comprehensive book is made up of information on economic historiography and its most outstanding representatives in the twentieth century. In this the author demonstrates the differences in the views of scholars from different generations. The geographical scope of the book encompasses mainly the most developed countries of Latin Europe, and, comparatively and complementarily, Byzantium, the Arab world and Rus’. The main shortcoming of this original and valuable work is the almost complete omission of the countries of Central Europe.114final_published

Measuring the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Minnesota Superintendents: “We did our best while we weren’t at our best” This dissertation explores the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on Minnesota superintendents and contributes to the literature on the pandemic’s impact on education. By employing a statewide survey and grounded theory approach, the research investigates the lived experiences of superintendents during the pandemic and addresses gaps in understanding the specific effects on this group. The central research question focuses on how two years of the pandemic influenced the day-to-day work of Minnesota superintendents. The study’s findings highlight the increased demands, pressure and strains faced by superintendents as a result of the pandemic. The research design involved a survey that included open-ended comments from superintendents, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of their experiences. The qualitative analysis of the comments provided valuable insights into the challenges and concerns expressed by superintendents. The study reveals that the pandemic exacerbated pre-existing issues faced by superintendents such as financial management, personnel management, stress, work-life balance, and time requirements, while introducing high levels of community and staff polarization to the strains of the role. These findings underscore the need to address the challenges faced by superintendents and support their well-being to ensure stability and continuity in educational leadership. It suggests the need for a further evolution in the superintendent roles, focusing on community building and healing. The findings also highlight the importance of superintendent well-being, the role of technology in alleviating administrative burdens, and the potential for policy-making to be less of a rule book and more of a collaborative community-based process. The author also identifies avenues for future research, including investigating the experiences of female superintendents, board relationships and factors contributing to job satisfaction and longevity in the role

Five young Liberians describe their experience of education
This capstone focuses on the educational backgrounds of Liberian students by asking the question: What educational experiences do Liberian students bring to a suburban Minnesota high school? The key influence to the author was personal experience with this group of new immigrants and refugees as students and members of the community. The literature review addresses several aspects impacting this group of students, including a brief summary of Liberia\u27s history, a description of the Liberian school system, refugee issues, and teaching African refugees in United States classrooms. Qualitative interviews were conducted with five Liberian high school students to obtain information regarding their educational background and current educational experiences. By completing the literature review the author gained helpful background knowledge of this particular immigrant group. By completing the interviews the author highlighted the students as individuals with unique perspectives on their educations
The artistic design of memorials to the victims of National Socialism in Styria
Diese Diplomarbeit beschäftigt sich mit der künstlerischen Gestaltung von Denkmälern für die Opfer des Nationalsozialismus in der Steiermark. Anhand von ausgewählten Beispielen soll der Stellenwert, den die Kunst in Bezug auf Rezeption, (Nicht-)Verstehen, Akzeptanz oder Ablehnung eines Denk- bzw. Mahnmals hat, ermittelt werden. Dabei werden verschiedene Ansätze, Werke, oder künstlerische Konzepte einander gegenüber gestellt und ihre Hintergründe beleuchtet. Die steirische Denkmallandschaft weist eine große Fülle künstlerischer Ansätze und Lösungen im Bereich der Holocaust-Denkmäler auf. Da wären die frühen Beispiele, unter denen einige durchaus dem internationalen Vergleich standhalten, wie das Werk Alexander Silveris oder das Mahnmal des Künstlers Fritz Cremer. Vielerorts kann man aber auch von künstlerischen Notlösungen (KZ-Außenlager Peggau) sprechen, oder es wurde überhaupt verabsäumt ein Denkmal zu setzen (KZ-Außenlager Eisenerz). Unter den Denkmalsetzungen jüngerer Zeit kann man einigen Werken innovativen Charakter und hohen künstlerischen Anspruch zuerkennen. Dabei scheinen der Vielfalt in Herangehensweise und Ausführungen keinerlei Grenzen mehr gesetzt: ein gesamtes ?Denkmalensemble? (das Andere Heimatmuseum Schloss Lind), Werke mit Interaktionscharakter (Jochen Gerz), neue Medien (KZ-Außenlager Aflenz) und temporäre Werke provokativer Ausrichtung (Hans Haacke) oder auf Ready-Made-Basis (Fedo Ertl). All dies fügt sich zu einer vielfältigen, überaus interessanten Denkmallandschaft zusammen, die eben aber auch vielerorts Finanzierungsprobleme, politische Spannungen oder das Fehlen von öffentlichen Aufträgen durchblicken lässt.This degree thesis examines the artistic design of memorials to the victims of National Socialism in Styria. Using selected examples, the importance of art for reception, understanding, acceptance or refusal should be determined. Various artistic approaches, works or artistic concepts are to be compared and their background shown. Styria is full of many different artistic approaches and solutions regarding to holocaust memorials. There are the early monuments such as those of Alexander Silveri and Fritz Cremer, which do not have to fear the international comparison, but there are also artistic compromise solutions (concentration camp Peggau), or even the lack of setting memorials (concentration camp Eisenerz). Among the memorial concepts of the last thirty years, there are several with innovative character and many of them are high in artistic quality. The variety of approaches, concepts and kinds of realization seems to be boundless: there are Memorial ensembles (the Andere Heimatmuseum Schloss Lind), works with interactive character (Jochen Gerz), temporary works with provocative character (Hans Haacke) or memorials based on ready-mades (Fedo Ertl).
