ABSTRACTThe origin of “Two China Question” is often described as the outcome of Chinese Civil War in1949 between Kuomintang (KMT) and Communist Party of China (CPC). It ideologicallydivided China into two countries which still claimed to be the righteous government of Chinesepeople. It remains salient until now. This paper will discuss the origin of this significantphenomenon by pointing out that the Empire of Japan by that time had importantly involvedin the partition of China. Since 1895, the first Sino-Japanese war, it marked the firstseparation of Chinese-speaking people, Taiwan, from Chinese administration. Taiwanunderwent industrial and agricultural development by Imperial Japan which lately supporteddefeated KMT government to lay its establishment in Taiwan. In the mid of Chinese Civil Warin 1931, Manchuria incident halted the annihilation of CPC by KMT who inevitably had to turntheir attention to Japanese invasion. CPC survived from the abyss of extinction and launchedthe famous long march. In 1937, Marco Polo incident ignited the second Sino-Japanese warand abided KMT to form its alliance with CPC against Imperial Japan. The war consumedKMT’s resources and manpower on the one hand. On the other hand, it provided CPC theprecious time to recover and reconstruct its army. Already in 1945, CPC’s army became moreadvantage than KMT’s on battlefield when Civil War resumed and eventually became thevictor in 1949. This paper suggests that with or without intention the Empire of Japan playedan important role in the emergence of “Two China question”.Keywords: “Two China Question”, Kuomintang (KMT), Communist Party of China (CPC), theEmpire of Japa

Choosing a Company's Building Design: Models for Strategic Design Decisions

Get PDF
Improving the linkage between real estate strategy and building design can help competitive business strategy. Differentiating building design from product design is important. Problems in making design choices derive from received paradigmatic knowledge that misrepresents the design decision processes. Architectural selection problems are explained with reference to design decision processes and dilemmas of testing the design. Because comparison is the underlying method of evaluation, the design competition is discussed as a model to evaluate the design of a company’s proposed high profile buildings in relation to corporate strategy. The Appendix describes the process and the recent and past history of competitions.

Let F α λ \mathfrak {F}_\alpha ^\lambda be the class of functions f ( z ) = z + a 2 z 2 + ⋯ f(z) = z + {a_2}{z^2} + \cdots which are regular in E = { z / | z | > 1 } E = \{ z/|z| > 1\} and satisfy Re ⁡ { e i α ( 1 + z f ( z ) / f ′ ( z ) ) } > λ cos ⁡ α \operatorname {Re} \{ {e^{i\alpha }}(1 + zf(z)/f’(z))\} > \lambda \cos \alpha for some α , | α | > π / 2 \alpha ,|\alpha | > \pi /2 , and for some λ , 0 ≤ λ > 1 \lambda ,0 \leq \lambda > 1 . The author finds a range on α \alpha for which f ( z ) f(z) in F α λ \mathfrak {F}_\alpha ^\lambda is univalent in E E . In particular, the author improves upon the range on a for which f ( z ) ∈ F α 0 f(z) \in \mathfrak {F}_\alpha ^0 is known to be univalent in E E . Also a corresponding result is obtained for those functions f ( z ) f(z) in F α λ \mathfrak {F}_\alpha ^\lambda for which f ( 0 ) = 0 f(0) = 0 .</p

SYNOPSIS The D.Litt Thesis herewith submitted, namely 'Budgetticks - A must for the Government'. This nature of research comes under the purview of the subject Public Administrations, which happens to be mine own discovery. Presently, there are huge problems in chalking out the yearly budget of the different countries in the present day world. Moreover, the countries which are in the arena of third world and underneath nations, this problem of framing of yearly budget has become a misnomer. The different Governments pertaining to such third world and underneath arena find the same, quite difficult in order to present their budget in thier respective Parliaments, or, before the Assemblies. In fact, there are no relevancies observed to-day, in between the different budgetary provisions (i.e. monetary provisions) and the resultant effects. Here, the Governments are meeting with their drastic failures in providing the people, which are very akin to maintain their lives and livelihoods towards, achieving a conducive sustenance. Here, Budget and its effects make no systematic impact in providing the people, their day to day necessities. Presently, most of the 3rd world and underneath nations are adopting the type of budget which are basically borrowed from the Britishers. During the colonial rule of the Britishers, they have imposed their ideas, their authority, responsibility, accountability, in the shape of forming the Governments, up to their own tastes. Unfortunately such Governments are not finding an outlet to be away from such unsuitable procedural ways as set up towards framing of the budget as made by the Britishers. Of course, partly the British system may have, some help to the capitalistic nations like U.S.A., U.K. and other European countries, but for the people of 3rd world and the underneath nations, this system only provides a distorted, hazy as well as quite an unsuitable order, in consideration to their geographical, social, political and anthropological behavioural orders.

While the Indian nuclear tests at Pokhran in May 1998 gave a new dimension to the “strategic culture†it also posed new challenges of devising a command and control system to ensure their effective use and safety. India has made considerable progress in missile development programme but not much has been written about the subject of nuclear command and control. It has been government policy to focus on “hard kill†weapons rather than expend funds on “ soft kill†systems like command and control whose benefits are intangible and difficult to quantify. A command and control system is however, of vital importance as it enables the leadership to analyze the threat, plan responses and above all achieve “ deterrenceâ€. Apart from this it helps to guard against accidental or inadvertent launch of nuclear weapons by laying down foolproof procedures and safety measures. Notwithstanding the cardinal importance of command and control systems, this subject remains abstract and very little material is available to researchers. The author has therefore relied mainly on the US and Russian the USSR nuclear command and control systems and has based his knowledge of the Indian command and control systems largely on assumptions and conjectures

Plan BThis study examines historical and current practices and trends in the evolution of the relationships that exist between corporations and the insurance and health care industries in the context of occupational health care, prevention and wellness initiatives, and benefits. The historical implementation of prevention, health and wellness programs by industry is traced, and the development of managed care as an adaptation by the insurance industry of these workplace initiatives is discussed. The practice of occupational health is discussed, including developments in traditional medical approaches as well as emerging concepts of the role of complementary and alternative options in the provision of occupational health services. The role of chiropractic is particularly examined. Methodology includes literature review, professional experience of the author, review of examples of clinical settings in occupational health, personal communication and interviews with practitioners in occupational health and vocational consultation. Corporations are identified as having the core financial stake in the development of innovative approaches to amelioration of challenges faced in protecting the health and well being of their workforce. Corporate concerns are seen historically as the source of concepts that have been co-opted by other industries, such as managed care concepts by the insurance industry, or wellness and prevention by the health care industry. Significantly, the insurance and health care industries can be seen in some respects as reactive to the innovations and demands of the corporate marketplace, rather than proactive. Results are discussed in terms of actions corporate management systems might take to develop more effective policies and programs in their health and wellness endeavors
