Assessment of Self-Archiving in Institutional Repositories: Depositorship and Full-Text Availability
This research evaluates the success of open access self-archiving in several well-known institutional repositories. Two assessment factors have been applied to examine the current practice of self-archiving: depositorship and the availability of full text. This research discovers that the rate of author self-archiving is low and that the majority of documents have been deposited by a librarian or administrative staff. Similarly, the rate of full-text availability is relatively low, except for Australian repositories. By identifying different practices of self-archiving, repository managers can create new strategies for the operation of their repositories and the development of archiving policies

Glocalization design strategies of multinational enterprises in the context of revitalizing historic districts: Case studies in China and Europe
Historic buildings reused by multinational corporations (MNCs) or multinational
enterprises (MNEs) in cultural districts could well spur urban revitalization with their economic capital
and business expertise. Nevertheless, with large scales and standardized business models,
MNCs/MNEs normally maintain a high degree of consistency in their standardized architectural and
interior design around the world. Historic districts are thus often caught in the dilemma of the diversity
of cultural heritage conservation and the homogeneity of international enterprises' business models,
which would inevitably cause the tension surrounding the conflicting identities between those
MNCs/MNEs global presence and the local sensitivity attached to the cultural heritage. Therefore, in
the game of economic capital verses culture and social capital, the localized adjustments had to be
made in architectural design. In this paper, Starbucks and McDonalds, two common MNCs/MNEs
with three outlets in reused heritage buildings respectively were chosen as cases to investigate their
localization strategies in terms of façade, layout, spatial and decorative elements in Chinese and
European historic districts by comparing them to their standard stores nearby. This paper also evaluates
the rationality of the reuse and design strategies of heritage architecture by considering their built
environment
Information Literacy and Librarian-Faculty Collaboration: A Model for Success:
In the age of information explosion and technological advancement, issues of information storage, organization, access, and evaluation have become necessarily important in our societies. Addressing issues of information literacy and designing how they can be best integrated in students' learning process are of critical importance. Library professionals in the United States, particularly in the academia, have realized the importance of information literacy and have attempted in various ways to address these issues. The ultimate goal is to make information literacy an integral part of the academic curriculum, thus helping students to succeed not only during their years in college but also for their lifelong career choices. This article will look at ways of how information literacy can best be incorporated into students' academic experience, and how this process can make students' learning meaningful and successful. Specifically, the author will examine the model of librarian-faculty collaboration in integrating information literacy into the curriculum, as demonstrated in the Ohio Five Colleges' Information Literacy Program.Publisher version of this article is available at: http://www.white-clouds.com/iclc/cliej/cl24.ht
Numerical convergence of pre-initial conditions on dark matter halo properties
© 2021 The Author(s)Published by Oxford University Press on behalf of Royal Astronomical SocietyGenerating pre-initial conditions (or particle loads) is the very first step to set up a cosmological N-body simulation. In this work, we revisit the numerical convergence of pre-initial conditions on dark matter halo properties using a set of simulations which only differs in initial particle loads, i.e. grid, glass, and the newly introduced capacity constrained Voronoi tessellation (CCVT). We find that the median halo properties agree fairly well (i.e. within a convergence level of a few per cent) among simulations running from different initial loads. We also notice that for some individual haloes cross-matched among different simulations, the relative difference of their properties sometimes can be several tens of per cent. By looking at the evolution history of these poorly converged haloes, we find that they are usually merging haloes or haloes have experienced recent merger events, and their merging processes in different simulations are out-of-sync, making the convergence of halo properties become poor temporarily. We show that, comparing to the simulation starting with an anisotropic grid load, the simulation with an isotropic CCVT load converges slightly better to the simulation with a glass load, which is also isotropic. Among simulations with different pre-initial conditions, haloes in higher density environments tend to have their properties converged slightly better. Our results confirm that CCVT loads behave as well as the widely used grid and glass loads at small scales, and for the first time we quantify the convergence of two independent isotropic particle loads (i.e. glass and CCVT) on halo properties.11Nsciescopu

Ph.D.The ACDM model has been regarded as the standard model of cosmology. In the ACDM model, dark matter contribute about 25% of the total energy of the Universe today, but we still know nothing about the nature of dark matter. In this thesis, I will introduce several different Topics in Dark Matter Astrophysics and Cosmology, aiming to find out the nature of dark matter from different aspects. I studied percolation analysis in the cosmic web, which provides a new method to compare simulation with observation from the view of cosmic web and large scale structure. I proposed the S-bb relation as a measurable relation for the comparison, and studied it in detail by N-body simulation. I proposed a new simulation technique to perform N-body simulation in the Fuzzy Dark Matter (FDM) model, which is highly effcient. I have performed several N-body simulations of the FDM model, verified my method by comparing with previous studies. My simulations showed that the quantum effect existing in this model plays a non-trivial role in structure formation. I investigate this model as an example for the discussion of the nature of dark matter.ACDM模型在現代宇宙學中被認為是標準的宇宙學模型。 Thesis Ph.D. Chinese University of Hong Kong 2017.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 134-150).Abstracts also in Chinese.Title from PDF title page (viewed on 18, October, 2019).Zhang, Jiajun = Tian ti wu li yu yu zhou xue an wu zhi ke ti yan jiu / 張佳駿

Applying the NISO Metasearch Initiative Scheme to Enhance E-Resources Management at Rutgers University Library
This paper discusses problems in the management of library e-resources and attempts to identify potential solutions to the problems. By describing an e-resources enhancement project taken by Rutgers University Libraries, this paper points to the importance of providing contextually-rich metadata and reorganizing the accessibility of e-resources on a library’s website. It introduces how this Rutgers project adopted the National Information Standards Organization Metasearch Initiative to support the identification of appropriate e-collections for metaseaching. The outcomes of the project have facilitated a dynamic display of relevant e-resources to library users as an effective way of automatic access to library e-collections.Peer reviewe
A Metadata Manager's Role in Collaborative Projects: The Rutgers University Libraries Experience
Purpose – This article discusses the roles and responsibilities of a metadata manager in collaborative digital projects.
Methodology – It describes the general requirements for metadata management, and introduces some scenarios in the practices of digital projects by the Rutgers University Libraries to support the generalized definition. A workflow of metadata management is illustrated.
Practical implications – With an explicit definition of the roles and responsibilities of the metadata manager, many other digital libraries that need to develop a new or optimize the existing workflow may find the Rutgers experience useful as reference.
Originality – Very few articles have explored this topic although the functions of metadata in the development of digital projects have been talked extensively.Peer reviewe
