No full textA new regularisation of non-elliptical contact patches has been introduced, which enables building the look-up table called by us the Kalker book of tables for non-Hertzian contact (KBTNH), which is a fast creep force generator that can be used by multibody dynamics system simulation programs. The non-elliptical contact patch is regularised by a simple double-elliptical contact region (SDEC). The SDEC region is especially suitable for regularisation of contact patches obtained with approximate non-Hertzian methods for solving the normal contact problem of wheel and rail. The new regularisation is suitable for wheels and rails with any profiles, including worn profiles. The paper describes the new procedure of regularisation of the non-elliptical contact patch, the structure of the Kalker book of tables, and parameterisation of the independent variables of the tables and creep forces. A moderate volume Kalker book of tables for SDEC region suitable for simulation of modern running gears has been computed in co-simulation of Matlab and program CONTACT. To access the creep forces of the Kalker book of tables, the linear interpolation has been applied. The creep forces obtained from KBTNH have been compared to those obtained by program CONTACT and FASTSIM algorithm. FASTSIM has been applied on both the contact ellipse and the SDEC contact patch. The comparison shows that KBTNH is in good agreement with CONTACT for a wide range of creepage condition and shapes of the contact patch, whereas the use of FASTSIM on the elliptical patch and SDEC may lead to significant deviations from the reference CONTACT solutions. The computational cost of calling creep forces from KBTNH has been estimated by comparing CPU time of FASTSIM and KBTNH. The KBTNH is 7.8–51 times faster than FASTSIM working on 36–256 discretisation elements, respectively. In the example of application, the KBTNH has been applied for curving simulations and results compared with those obtained with the creep force generator employing the elliptical regularisation. The results significantly differ, especially in predicted creepages, because the elliptical regularisation neglects generation of the longitudinal creep force by spin creepage

No full textThe Kalker book of tables for non-Hertzian contact described in a previous work from the authors provides creep forces, but the moment generated in the contact patch is not available. The extended Kalker book of tables for non-Hertzian contact (KBTNH) presented in this paper provides creep forces, as well as the moment. The paper presents the simplified linear theory of rolling contact for a simple double-elliptical contact (SDEC) region used for regularisation of contact patches and, resulting from this theory, the full symmetry relations for creep forces and moment. The parameterisation of variables and structure of the extended book of tables are described. The extended Kalker book of tables of moderate volume has been computed in co-simulation Matlab-CONTACT. The creep forces and moment obtained from KBTNH have been compared to those obtained directly by CONTACT program and FASTSIM algorithm. The comparison shows that KBTNH is in good agreement with CONTACT for a wide range of creepage conditions and shapes of the contact patch, whereas the use of FASTSIM may lead to significant deviations from the reference CONTACT solutions. The presented example of application is a realistic case of a freight wagon curving simulation, where KBTNH has been used to assess the contribution of the moment into the unit frictional work dissipated in contacts of wheels and rails. The high calculation speed and good accuracy of determining creep forces for non-Hertzian wheel–rail contact make the proposed method a suitable tool for multibody system (MBS) simulation programs oriented for rail vehicle dynamics

No full textProfessor Piotr Piotrowski passed away on 3rd May 2015. Above all, he was a world-class art historian, an author of dozens of books and hundreds of articles, a university lecturer, an intellectual engaged in public debates, and an academic teacher shaping the scientific attitudes of the most prominent art historians from the middle and younger generations in Poland and abroad. His personal achievement also included important achievements in the fields of museum studies and museology which place him among the most original Polish museum professionals at the turn of the 21st century. This memory is mainly devoted to the museum activity of Piotr Piotrowski. It recalls his achievements as a curator in the Gallery of Contemporary Art of the National Museum in Poznań, and highlights the intellectual legacy of his achievements in museology in the concept of the „critical museum” and the belief in the importance of the institution of the museum in public debate.Profesor Piotr Piotrowski zmarł 3 maja 2015 roku. Był przede wszystkim światowej klasy historykiem sztuki, autorem kilkunastu książek i kilkuset artykułów, wykładowcą uniwersyteckim, zaangażowanym w debaty publiczne intelektualistą, nauczycielem akademickim kształtującym postawy naukowe najwybitniejszych historyków sztuki średniego i młodszego pokolenia w Polsce i za granicą. W swoim dorobku zawodowym miał również niebagatelne osiągnięcia w dziedzinie muzealnictwa i muzeologii, które sytuują Go w gronie najbardziej oryginalnych muzealników polskich przełomu XX i XXI wieku. He is one of foremost pastors of the second half of the twentieth century, his commitment being exemplary in the religious, social and cultural education of the youth. In his opinion, culture should be linked with evangelization and catechetic teaching in socjety. He was a co-author of the first integrated program of preparation in the sacrament of marriage. He also stands as an exemplar in his private life through the practice of self-denial and the virtute of poverty. Everyone who works in pastoral camps with the young can be inspired by fr. Piotrowski’s life and writings.Ks. Stanisław Piotrowski (1912–1998) był cenionym i charyzmatycznym duszpasterzem. Jest jednym z wybitniejszych kapłanów drugiej połowy XX wieku, zaangażowanym w religijną, społeczną i kulturalną edukację młodzieży. Symbol (in / of) cutting age
No full textWith reference to the idea of postmodern culture which uses the episteme of tmesis, I attempt to consider in its context the status of symbol. Even if the Nietzschean programme of suspension of symbolization processes is preached, the desymbolization – forced by the Cutting Age – cannot succeed. By distinguishing various types of symbolization based on the concepts of tekmérion, tekmar and eikos, I show that the postmodern cut makes a paradoxical synthesis of those types and it does not violate the identity of symbol, because symbol as a unit (sym-bállica) implies some dichotomisation.
