Oertel C, Cummins F, Campbell N, Edlund J, Wagner P. D64: A corpus of richly recorded conversational interaction. In: Proceedings of LREC 2010, Workshop on Multimodal Corpora: Advances in Capturing, Coding and Analyzing Multimodality. Valetta, Malta; 2010.Rich non-intrusive recording of a naturalistic conversation was conducted in a domestic setting. Four (sometimes five) participants engaged in lively conversation over two 4-hour sessions on two successive days. Conversation was not directed, and ranged widely over topics both trivial and technical. The entire conversation, on both days, was richly recorded using 7 video cameras, 10 audio microphones, and the registration of 3-D head, torso and arm motion using an Optitrack system. To add liveliness to the conversation, several bottles of wine were consumed during the final two hours of recording. The resulting corpus will be of immediate interest to all researchers interested in studying naturalistic, ethologically situated, conversational interaction

Web Services is a technology based on the service-oriented paradigm. The technology uses standards-based protocols and uses an infrastructure already present. Web Services have been described as the solution to a lot of problems in distributed networking. This report shows that Web Services are very well suited to act as a bridge between traditional middleware. A comparison between CORBA and Web Services shows that the techniques have different objectives

Freigang F, Bergmann K. Towards Metadata Descriptions for Multimodal Corpora of Natural Communication Data. In: Edlund J, Heylen D, Paggio P, eds. Proceedings of the Workshop on Multimodal Corpora 2013: Multimodal Corpora: Beyond Audio and Video. 2013.Metadata play an important role for successful corpus management and reusability of corpora. For linguistic resources there already exist a large amount of metadata descriptions and metadata schemes. However, not much work has been done to develop metadata for the particular structure of multimodal corpora, yet. In this paper we provide a review of existing metadata profiles for multimodal data. We discuss in how far these are adequate to describe multimodal resources and point out conclusions for future efforts

This provocation paper calls for a deeper understanding of what spoken human-computer interaction is, and what it can be. Its given structure by a story of humanlikeness and fraudulent spoken dialogue systems - specifically systems that deliberately attempts to mislead their interlocutors into believing that they are speaking to a human. Against this backdrop, a plea that conversational user interfaces are viewed from the perspective of conversation and spoken interaction first, and from the perspective of GUIs and interface design second, lest we impose the limitations of one field onto the possibilities of another, rather than the other way around.QC 20220301</p
