¿Un pensador utópico muere de hambre? Lizardi y el liberalismo

    No full text
Abstract: For José Joaquín Fernández de Lizardi the advances of liberalism simulated nationalist ends —but they were buried, because the half daily weight assigned to him by President Victoria was stolen by angry enemies, liars all of them, of a welfare state generalized in the workshops, schools, and family. Lizardi starved to death. He went from oral to writing. According to him "he did what he could for his country"— which, unfortunately, was corrupt. El Pensador did not keep quiet about the injustices that buried the victories of the revolutionaries. The first novelist; the first single newspaper author, where he exposed how the utopias were twisted. He has done more for Mexico since he died; He left his "papers" from an excommunicated person. He spent part of his existence in prison. Keywords: Utopia, homeland, nation, independence, illiterate.

Social and political problems were accentuated in the colonies American in the late eighteenth century, certainly impacted the ideas illustrated; In the creole sectors, independence was conceived; in Mexico and Uruguay enthusiastic authors are identified with the ideas of freedom, equality and justice, is the case of Fernández de Lizardi and Bartolomé Hidalgo, who chose dialogue and circumstantial poetry to express your ideals; a first reading of his works reveals certain elements in common. In that sense, a comparative analysis of his writings becomes pertinent, since they lived through the political situation in the colonies American. The analysis will start from what Zavala exposes in relation to the comparative reading, according to which it consists of the comparison of the texts, from the same perspective of analysis. They will be studied the ideas of each author separately and then proceed to see the elements in common. The methodology is to consider the circumstances historical and socio-political in the colonies; second, they will be studied the patriotic and independence ideas of Hidalgo, and those of Fernández de Lizardi; third, the ideas of both will be confronted, their affinities and differences. These are spatially distant contemporary authors, who had no communication, but their writings reveal the commitment to the homeland, criticism of the monarchy, and eagerness to fight in for equality and social justice. It is remarkable that they used the same genres to express their ideological leanings.

The experience as an undergrad law student in Mexico City lead to the conclusion that the problematics around teaching and learning law are related to language. Teachers often try to teach closed, steady and permanent concepts and definitions, making students learn a simple idea of the law system, instead of understanding it as a super complex and multifaceted phenomenon. It is important to realize that there are not static concepts, almost every word can be interpreted, and therefore it is potentially arguable. Legislation is written in a technical but colloquial language, which means that the words have imprecision problems, and consequently these problems also exist in their explanation. Considering this, the non-essentialism theory should be handled while teaching and learning law, and instead of teaching definitions, the problematics and inability to reach them should be understood. Considering this, the author proposes the promotion of the argumentative tools in students, investigation as a technique that should be used in all almost all subjects, and the defense of a multidisciplinary idea of law

A Rubric to Assess the Virtual Library

    No full text
The virtual library is a digital representation of an academic library and should provide a similar level of engagement, interactivity, and research support that users find in the physical library location. A virtual academic library should be user-centered, contain multi-media, being socially engaging, and foster community. Using these elements from Library 2.0 and the characteristics of Human-Centered Design, a rubric to assess virtual academic libraries was developed. The rubric measures where the library pages are meeting the standards and the areas that need to be further developed. The libraries evaluated ranked high in most areas. Areas for enhancement include malleability and ownership. The rubric serves as a starting point for assessment but requires additional delineation in each characteristic to allow for variations in how libraries meet the criteria.NASUNY Polytechnic InstituteCollege of Arts and SciencesN/

    No full text
The purpose of this project is to design a corporate employee engagement application that solicits real-time feedback from employees and provides results and insights to managers and leaders on the human factors of operating an organization. The project includes a prototype design of the application, which factors in user experience (UX) design approaches and gamification concepts. An iterative approach was used in the prototype design to modularly build and enhance the design, with the underlying focus being user experience to ensure it satisfied the basic user needs and usability. Customer-centric design approaches, such as user journeys and personas, were utilized to more granularly focus on varying types of users. Universal design principles and gamification techniques were also incorporated to further enhance the aesthetics and promote repeated usage of the application. The final result of the project is a prototype design of a corporate employee application that focuses upon the user and incorporates common social and consumer-based approaches into a corporate based application to boost employee engagement within an organization.NASUNY Polytechnic InstituteCollege of Arts and SciencesM
