No full textIt is ironic that Madeleine Leininger, the founder of Transcultural Nursing which was developed to "promote and protect the clients of diverse cultural groups" (Leininger 1996, p.13) was apparently not well informed about the Aotearoa/New Zealand context when she made her response to the Cooney article in Nursing Praxis in New Zealand, Vol. 11 NO. 2. It seems that Leininger, despite having written "whenever cultural imposition or negative ethnocentrism occur ... one will find culturally unsafe practices and outcomes", (Leininger, 1996b, p.13) is prepared to respond to a New Zealand author without an indepth knowledge of the New Zealand scene. It is not surprising therefore, that her response contains inaccuracies and misconceptions

Cognitive realism and memory in Proust's madeleine episode
Full text linkThe famous 'madeleine episode' of Proust's In Search of Lost Time is investigated with reference to cognitive realism in the evocation of memory, by asking how this literary memory experience compares with the conceptualization of memory in current cognitive science. Furthermore, what does close reading of the episode informed by current scientific findings and debates on memory and agency tell us about Proust's categorization of this memory event as involuntary memory, and his presentation of voluntary and involuntary memory as a distinct opposition? I show that the madeleine episode (1) corresponds partly to cognitive realities as documented by recent science and partly to prevalent expectations about cognition or its narration, and (2) undermines the neat voluntary/involuntary distinction it initially seems to illustrate. I suggest how these qualities may affect readers' responses to Proust's famously evocative object. © The Author(s) 2013

No full textWith some important pieces as the "bison licking its flank" for example, mobiliary art of La Madeleine is well known from large public and specialists. Others objects as remarkable have been occulted for a long time, most of them for being not correctly published. Its the case of the engraved scapula described in this article, exceptionnal in its representation of the three animals (bisons), which are figured on it. By a detailed analysis of support and engravings, based on a new graphical reproduction, the author reveales thematic associations and unknown details. Although, he also shows that it is essential today to reexaminate all mobiliary series anciently published.Par quelques pièces maîtresses, comme le "bison se léchant le flanc" par exemple, l'art mobilier de La Madeleine est bien connu du grand public et des spécialistes. D'autres objets tout aussi remarquables sont longtemps passés inaperçus, en grande partie pour ne pas avoir été correctement publiés. C'est le cas notamment de la scapula gravée décrite dans cet article, exceptionnelle par le mode de représentation des trois animaux (bisons) qui y sont figurés. Par une analyse approfondie du support et des gravures, appuyée sur un nouveau relevé graphique, l'auteur révèle des associations thématiques et des détails inédits. Ce faisant, il démontre également qu'il est indispensable aujourd'hui d'entreprendre le réexamen de toutes les séries mobilières anciennement publiées.Paillet Patrick.
