Upper limb ischemia at birth: A case report from Saudi Arabia

    No full text
The aim of this case report: is to present and discuss the clinical features, diagnostic challenges, management strategies, and outcomes of two cases involving upper limb ischemia in neonates. By examining these cases, we aim to contribute to the understanding of the underlying causes, diagnostic pathways, and potential interventions for neonates presenting with upper limb ischemia, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and appropriate management to minimize complications and enhance patient outcomes. Discussion Summary: ABS presents a range of fetal abnormalities caused by fibrous bands in the womb, leading to deformities and developmental interruptions. Limb constriction rings are common, potentially resulting in limb loss or digit deformities. Neonatal limb ischemia, particularly acute limb ischemia, is rare but associated with catheterization. In utero compression ischemia, often affecting the brachial artery, can lead to limb ischemia. Risk factors include maternal conditions like diabetes, dehydration, and more. Proper delivery planning is crucial for macrosomic infants. Diagnosis and management of neonatal limb ischemia are challenging. Doppler ultrasound is the primary diagnostic tool, with fetal CT enhancing prenatal assessment. Thrombolytic therapy, including alteplase and heparin, is a common treatment

Abstract: The spousal abuse is a form of abusive and aggressive actions that woman encounters in her close relationship with her male partner who attempts to uphold control and power over his spouse. This subject has increased widely nowadays and it needs to be investigated through the lens of literature in order to give a voice for the voiceless wives who endure the bad temper and abuse of their spouses. It will be studied in The Wrongs of Woman which is considered as a feminist novel and one of the best 18th century novels. Wollstonecraft’s philosophical and gothic tale tells the story of Her husband has committed her to an insane asylum. It critiques the oppressive sacredness of getting married in eighteenth-century Britain, and also the judicial framework that upholds it, according to Wollstonecraft., and focuses on society rather than individual female wrongdoings. The purpose of this dissertation is to utilize a thematic method to evaluate the theme of spousal abuse of women in the novel, and to investigate the impact and consequences on the main female characters. Her novel , was designed to be read and appreciated as both profoundly restorative and historical important in terms of what that exposes concerning patriarchal and patriarchal systems’ effects on women’s lives. ORIENTALISME ET ALTERITE DANS LE ROMAN ISTANBUL, SOUVENIRS D’UNE VILLE D’ORHAN PAMUK

    No full text
Orientalism is « the assimilation of Eastern elements into Western culture » according to the german author Harald Siebenmorgen. He asserts that there are two types of Orientalism. The first sees the East as agressive and hostile, while the second sees it as attractive and seductive through its exotic features. With this in mind, it seems appropriate to examine this notion in the light of the theory of otherness in Orhan Pamuk's novel Istanbul, Memories of a City. Obsessed with the idea of the double, the writer challenges the doxa relating to his culture, which oscillates between an aspect of alla turca on the one hand and alla franca on the other. He is convinced by the idea of dualism that inhabits his city and its objects, and assumes that it possesses « two souls : Eastern and Western ». This dualism was accentuated by the influence of French writers such as Nerval, Gauthier and Flaubert. In fact, he devotes separate chapters to these three orientalists. Our starting point will therefore be an overview of the concepts of Orientalism and otherness. We will then attempt to discern the aspects of the dialogue between East and West through Orhan Pamuk's Western upbringing

Advertising Idea between social meaning and receiver behavior

The identity and value of the product is determine by the process of linking the product with values and social meanings through the means of advertising. In the late 20th century a theory was developed in advertising, based on the theory of meaning as a rule, and this view of the declaration came to say that advertising is not only a conveyor of information but a source of building or Establish the personality and identity of the recipient and society, and thus can expand the entrance of meaning as the basis of individual world life into social contexts. Research problem: 1-        To what extent does the theory of social meaning contribute to the advertising idea? 2-        How does the ideological content of an advertisement contribute to the behavior? Research importance: 1-        Design the ads and create an advertising idea through the theory of meaning as a rule. 2-        Drawing a positive mental image of the advertiser through social meanings in the design of the advertisement. Research goals: 1-        Study the role of the theory of meaning in the design of advertising and its role in the creation of the idea of advertising. 2-        Study the role of the ideological content of the Declaration in drawing a mental image of the declared. Research hypotheses: 1-        The study of social meaning may contribute to the creation of a successful advertising idea. 2-        The meaning of the Declaration may contribute to the drawing of a positive mental image of the recipient from the author. Research Methodology: The researcher will take the approach of description and analysis, through the theoretical framework and analysis of some models to confirm the hypotheses of the researc

    Genodermatoses with behavioural sequelae

    No full text
Children with genodermatoses are at an increased risk of developing behavioural disorders which may impart lasting damage on the individual and their family members. As such, early recognition of childhood mental health disorders via meticulous history taking, thorough physical examination, and disorder-specific testing is of paramount importance for timely and effective intervention. If carried out properly, prompt psychiatric screening and intervention can effectively mitigate, prevent or even reverse, the psychiatric sequela in question. To that end, this review aims to inform the concerned physician of the manifestations and treatment strategies relevant to the psychological sequelae of genodermatoses. © Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2022

Primary Localized Cutaneous Amyloidosis of Keratinocyte Origin: An Update with Emphasis on Atypical Clinical Variants

    No full text
Amyloid is a protein derived from at least 20 different substances. Once misfolded, it results in a group of cutaneous and systemic conditions. Primary localized cutaneous amyloidosis of keratinocyte origin is a very common subtype that can manifest either as lichen or macular amyloidosis, lacking systemic involvement. Lichen amyloidosis often presents as multiple hyperpigmented papules on the lower extremities whereas macular amyloidosis is classically characterized by dark brown rippled macules on the interscapular area. Review of the literature reveals that in addition to the classical presentation of primary localized cutaneous amyloidosis there exists a plethora of various manifestations that can be grouped into either geographic or morphologic categories. This review provides clinicians with the intimate knowledge of these presentations and summarizes the available treatment modalities. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG

Treatments for Non-Syndromic Inherited Ichthyosis, Including Emergent Pathogenesis-Related Therapy

    No full text
The term ‘inherited ichthyosis’ refers to a heterogeneous group of mendelian disorders of cornification that involve the integument with varying degrees of scaling. The management of ichthyosis poses a challenge for most physicians. Treatment options proposed in the literature include moisturizers, topical keratolytics, topical and systemic vitamin D analogues, and topical and systemic retinoids; however, some of these modalities are less reliable than others. Despite the therapeutic impasse imposed by the options above, the emergence of pathogenesis-based treatments along with novel gene therapies appear promising and hold the potential to halt or even revert disorders that arise from single genetic mutations, although research is still quite lacking in this domain. Hence, this review aims to highlight the various treatment modalities available for the management of the cutaneous manifestations of non-syndromic inherited ichthyosis, with an added emphasis on pathogenesis-targeted therapies. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG

Evaluation of electrical resistivity and maturity for estimating the early-age properties of pre-packaged concrete

    No full text
Although 28-day concrete compressive strength is often used as a quality control indicator, early-age mechanical properties are becoming more critical to optimize construction scheduling. Electrical resistivity (ER) and maturity can be used to appraise mechanical properties’ gain over time. Although these methods are well-defined for conventional concrete, there is a lack of studies using these techniques to predict strength of pre-packaged concrete mixes containing distinct materials. This paper aims to explore the feasibility of estimating early-strength gain of pre-packaged repair materials through ER and maturity. Calibration curves were developed using cylinders cured at room temperature and compared to samples cured under low/fluctuating temperature conditions. The average predicted-to-experimental strength ratios using ER and maturity method ranged from 1.07-1.17 and 0.86-1.16, respectively. Moreover, a statistical analysis of variance confirmed that there is no significant scatter within the results obtained from the same mixture. The presentation of the authors' names and (or) special characters in the title of the pdf file of the accepted manuscript may differ slightly from what is displayed on the item page. SuPAR, an emerging biomarker in kidney and inflammatory diseases

    No full text
Soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) is a circulating form of a physiological and pathophysiological important cell surface receptor, implicated in inflammation. Recent studies showed that suPAR is a promising biomarker, useful for diagnosis, assessment and prognosis of several diseases. This review summarises the majority of preliminary studies and analyses the significance and the clinical application of suPAR in various clinical conditions. SuPAR seems to have a significant value in the diagnosis as well as prognosis of many diseases; nonetheless, it merits large-scale studies to set cut-off values that help physicians in following up their patients and accordingly tailor their treatment plans. © Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2018. Quantification of van der Waals forces in bimodal and trimodal AFM. "The Journal of chemical physics", 28 Maig 2023, vol. 158, núm. 20, article 204703 and may be found at https://doi.org/10.1063/5.0154196.The multifrequency formalism is generalized and exploited to quantify attractive forces, i.e., van der Waals interactions, with small amplitudes or gentle forces in bimodal and trimodal atomic force microscopy (AFM). The multifrequency force spectroscopy formalism with higher modes, including trimodal AFM, can outperform bimodal AFM for material property quantification. Bimodal AFM with the second mode is valid when the drive amplitude of the first mode is approximately an order of magnitude larger than that of the second mode. The error increases in the second mode but decreases in the third mode with a decreasing drive amplitude ratio. Externally driving with higher modes provides a means to extract information from higher force derivatives while enhancing the range of parameter space where the multifrequency formalism holds. Thus, the present approach is compatible with robustly quantifying weak long range forces while extending the number of channels available for high resolution.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
