Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Charged particles and quasiperiodic oscillations around magnetized Schwarzschild black holes
Abstract We study the motion of charged particles around Schwarzschild black holes immersed in external (i) asymptotically uniform, (ii) dipolar, and (iii) parabolic-like magnetic fields. The effect of the different magnetic-field configurations on the position of innermost stable circular orbits (ISCOs) for test-charged particles is analyzed. Furthermore, we investigated frequencies of radial and vertical oscillations of the charged particles along their stable circular orbits together with the Keplerian one. As an astrophysical application, we explore quasiperiodic oscillations (QPOs) observed in microquasars sourced by black hole candidates in the frame of the relativistic precession (RP) model. In order to obtain constraints on the values of the magnetic parameter and black hole mass for the microquasars GRO J1655-40 and GRS 1915-105, we use the method so-called χ 2 in the Bayesian approach. Also, we get constraints on the magnetic field around the black hole in the microquasars by treating electrons and protons as oscillating test-charged particles in the accretion disc. Our performed analyses show that the masses of black hole candidates in the above-mentioned objects and magnetic parameters are different for the uniform and dipolar magnetic field configurations. However, no constraints on the magnetic field and black hole masses are obtained in the case of a parabolic magnetic field configuration. The obtained results on the black hole masses are compared with the measurements in independent astrophysical observations of these black hole masses
Electromagnetic Fields around Black Holes in Einstein Æther Gravity
Axial symmetry and stationary properties of spacetime allow to find exact analytical solutions of differential equations describing fields and particles in a gravitational background. The present work is mainly devoted to derivation of exact solutions of Maxwell’s equations for magnetic fields generated by current loops around static black holes (BHs) in Einstein-aether gravity based on the spacetime symmetries in both regions: (i) interior and (ii) exterior to the current loop for a proper observer. The spacetime symmetries are applied in separating variables to solve the second order ordinary differential equation for vector potential of electromagnetic field and the equations of motion of test particles around the aether BH. We also study effects of the aether field on innermost stable circular orbits (ISCOs) of the test particles assuming the current loop position is placed there. It is obtained that the ISCO radius, as well as dipole magnetic moment of the current loop decrease with the increase of the aether parameter c14. Moreover, the performed analysis indicates that the aether field causes a decrease in the magnetic field inside and outside the current loop due to the change of its position
Weak gravitational lensing Schwarzschild-MOG black hole in plasma
This paper is devoted to study weak gravitational lensing properties around black hole surrounded plasma medium in modified gravity (MOG). We have investigated the effects of the MOG-parametr and plasma medium on the deflection angle and total magnification of the images. we have presented the comparisons of the effects of the uniform plasma, singular isothermal sphere and non-singular isothermal sphere. We have also shown that the uniform plasma effects significantly stronger than the other models of plasma medium.Through the studies of the total magnifications of images of a remote source we have shown that the effects of the MOG parameter and plasma medium are similar and the increase of the MOG parameter and plasma frequency cause to increase the total magnification. Moreover, we have explored and analyzed how the MOG effects can reflect the plasma medium providing the same values of the total magnification of images
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dynamics and epicyclic motions of particles around the Schwarzschild–de Sitter black hole in perfect fluid dark matter
Abstract In this paper, we investigate circular orbits for test particles around the Schwarzschild–de Sitter (dS) black hole surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter. We determine the region of circular orbits bounded by innermost and outermost stable circular orbits. We show that the impact of the perfect fluid dark matter shrinks the region where circular orbits can exist as the values of both innermost and outermost stable circular orbits decrease. We find that for specific lower and upper values of the dark matter parameter there exist double matching values for inner and outermost stable circular orbits. It turns out that the gravitational attraction due to the dark matter contribution dominates over cosmological repulsion. This gives rise to a remarkable result in the Schwarzschild–de Sitter black hole surrounded by dark matter field in contrast to the Schwarzschild–de Sitter metric. Finally, we study epicyclic motion and its frequencies with their applications to twin peak quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) for various models. We find the corresponding values of the black hole parameters which could best fit and explain the observed twin peak QPO object GRS 1915+109 from microquasars
Dynamics of spinning particles around a charged black-bounce spacetime
Abstract We investigate the dynamics of neutral spinning test particles in the charged black-bounce spacetime described by the Reissner–Nordström–Simpson–Visser metric, which interpolates between a Reissner–Nordström black hole and a traversable wormhole via the Simpson–Visser parameter l. Utilizing the Mathisson–Papapetrou–Dixon equations with the Tulczyjew spin-supplementary condition, we derive the equations of motion, effective potential, and conserved quantities for particles in the equatorial plane. The spin-curvature coupling introduces significant deviations from geodesic motion, affecting stable circular orbits and the innermost stable circular orbit. We analyze the superluminal bound, ensuring physically valid timelike trajectories, and find that the spin parameter s, electric charge Q, and l critically influence orbital stability and dynamics. Additionally, we study particle collisions, computing the critical angular momentum and center-of-mass energy, which reveal conditions for high-energy astrophysical processes, particularly in the black hole regime. Numerical results highlight the interplay between spin, electromagnetic effects, and the black-bounce geometry, with implications for accretion disks and gravitational wave signatures
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
