No full textArtikel ini memberikan gambaran tentang tokoh kearsipan berkebangsaan Amerika Serikat yaitu Jason Scott dan Solon J. Buck. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah studi pustaka yaitu mengumpulkan data dari berbagai artikel jurnal serta buku yang terkait dengan topik penulisan. Artikel ini mengkaji biografi, karya serta kontribusi Jason Scott dan Solon J. Buck dalam dunia kearsipan. Hasil yang didapatkan dari proses penganalisisan adalah, bahwa Jason Scott merupakan tokoh arsiparis yang berkontribusi dalam pelestarian arsip digital dan dikenal sebagai tokoh dunia dalam pengarsipan digital. Kontribusinya di bidang arsip ialah membuat sebuah dobrakan berbasis situs web yaitu textfiles.com yang merupakan website untuk mengolah, menyimpan dan melestarikan file arsip dari sistem sejarah papan bulletin (BBS) dunia dan subcultural. Upaya yang dilakukan untuk menjaga kelestarian arsip adalah dengan membentuk tim untuk pengolahan arsip internet yang telah memberikan banyak prestasi di konferensi teknologi arsip mengenai sejarah digital, perangkat lunak serta pelestarian situs web arsip. Sedangkan Solon Justus Buck dikenal sebagai arsiparis yang kontribusi dan membawa dampak besar selama perang dunia ke II. Solon Justus Buck membantu sekutu dalam perjalanan mereka menuju kemenangan. Selain itu, ia juga terlibat dalam sejumlah kegiatan kearsipan Negara, masyarakat, sejarah kenegaraan serta nasional pemerintahan Amerika Serikat.This article provides an overview of archival figures from the United States, namely Jason Scott and Solon J. Buck. The method used in this research is literature study, namely collecting data from various journal articles and books related to the topic of writing. This article examines the biographies, works and contributions of Jason Scott and Solon J. Buck to the archives world. The results obtained from the analysis process are that Jason Scott is an archivist who contributes to the preservation of digital archives and is known as a world leader in digital archiving. His contribution in the field of archives is to create a breakthrough based on a website, namely textfiles.com which is a website for processing, storing and preserving archive files from the world and subcultural bulletin board history system (BBS). Efforts are being made to preserve archives by forming a team for internet archive processing which has made many achievements at archive technology conferences on digital history, software and archive website preservation. Meanwhile, Solon Justus Buck is known as an archivist who contributed and had a big impact during World War II. Solon Justus Buck helps allies on their way to victory. In addition, he is also involved in a number of activities for the archives of the State, society, history of the state and the national government of the United States

Interpreting abstract games : the metaphorical potential of formal game elements

This is largely due to the fact that such games lack a fictional element: there are no characters, no settings, and no narratives to speak of. In this thesis I propose that understanding the various formal elements of games as metaphors can both serve as an effective critical method and offer insights into designing more expressive games. I begin by addressing the ambiguity surrounding the phrase "abstract game" and offer a definition rooted in Peircean semiotics and Juul's model of games as consisting of both rules and fiction. I next offer a model of games as consisting of three levels: the system, audio-visual, and affective. This is followed by an overview of Lakoff and Johnson's concept of "metaphor" as "understanding one thing in terms of another." I then argue that different types of metaphors have a natural affinity for the system and affective levels of games. From this I develop methods for a critical method wherein games are considered to be metaphors. I conclude with a discussion of this method's implications for game design and future game research.by Jason Scott Begy.S.M
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
