Erythmelus (Erythmelus) vladimir S. Triapitsyn & Fidalgo, 2001, comb. n. (Figs 6, 7) Erythmelus (Parallelaptera) vladimir S. Triapitsyn & Fidalgo 2001: 163–165 (holotype female [IMLA], examined. Type locality: Viçosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil); Triapitsyn 2003: 35. Diagnosis. Erythmelus vladimir belongs to the nominate subgenus of Erythmelus because it has a single seta on the forewing blade behind the base of the marginal vein (Fig. 7). This is one of the most easily recognizable species of the flavovarius species group because of its minute body size (length 310–386 µm) and the unique funicle of the female antenna (Fig. 6), which is apparently 4–segmented due to an apparent loss of F3 and a complete or partial fusion of F1 and F2 (Triapitsyn & Fidalgo 2001). It was described in the subgenus E. (Parallelaptera) by mistake because of its peculiar antenna and the forewing with subparallel margins; this feature is apparently a convergence due to the extremely small body size of this species, which parasitizes lace bug eggs of similar size as eggs of the hosts of E. (Parallelaptera) species. Members of the subgenus E. (Parallelaptera) are not known to occur in Central or South America except for E. (P.) rex, which might have been unintentionally introduced into the Buenos Aires area of Argentina. In South America, among the Mymaridae, their ecological niche as egg parasitoids of Tingidae appears to be occupied by minute members of E. (Erythmelus) such as E. (E.) tingitiphagus, E. (E.) vladimir, and E. (E.) toreador sp. n. The male is unknown. Distribution. Brazil (Triapitsyn & Fidalgo 2001) Host. Acanthocheila armigera (Stål) (Tingidae) (Triapitsyn & Fidalgo 2001).Published as part of Triapitsyn, Serguei V., Berezovskiy, Vladimir V., Hoddle, Mark S. & Morse, Joseph G., 2007, A review of the Nearctic species of Erythmelus (Hymenoptera: Mymaridae), with a key and new additions to the New World fauna, pp. 1-64 in Zootaxa 1641 (1) on pages 12-13, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.1641.1.1, http://zenodo.org/record/510340

GEORGES V. FLOROVSKY AND VLADIMIR N. LOSSKY: AN EXPLORATION, COMPARISON AND DEMONSTRATION OF THEIR UNIQUE APPROACHES TO THE NEOPATRISTIC SYNTHESIS

    No full text
The main purpose of this thesis is to explore and compare the unique approaches to the neopatristic synthesis of Georges V. Florovsky and Vladimir N. Lossky. I will also demonstrate how these differences are manifested in their doctrine of creation. But first, to place their works in context, I consider their respective histories, views of Tradition, and methodologies. As a minor theme, I will show that both men were influenced by the Sophiological controversy: Fr. Sergius Bulgakov and Fr. Pavel Florensky are unseen interlocutors, to very different effects, in both Florovsky and Lossky. One main concern that arises is what truly determines Orthodox theology. Florovsky’s method is very historical, and his view of Tradition follows the neopatristic synthesis quite closely, even programmatically. His premise that God created freely, coupled with the absolute ontological distinction between creature and Creator, leads him to the conclusion that man is absolutely free and undetermined. This is the foundation of his personalist theology. Yet most of his work on creation is in hidden contradistinction to Russian religious philosophy, specifically the Sophiology of Bulgakov. Lossky’s work is also based on the Fathers, but he adds much that is his own creative theological work. He does not follow the neopatristic synthesis as programmatically as Florovsky. The basis of Lossky’s entire anthropology is found, by way of analogy, in his Trinitarian theology. But the major difference between his work and Florovsky’s is that Lossky is indebted to Russian religious philosophy: he shares much with the work of Florensky, as well as some of the intuitions of Bulgakov. This is particularly apparent in his concepts of the image of God in man and of the person. But he also arrives at his personalism through his apophatic method, applied in a universal manner, and his true synthesis of the Fathers with contemporary thought

Photoswitching Emission with Rhodamine Spiroamides for Superresolution Fluorescence nanoscopies

    No full text
Spatial resolution in far-field fluorescence microscopy is limited by diffraction to about 200 nm. With the aid of photoswitchable fluorophores, the diffraction barrier has been successfully overcome, allowing unprecedented resolution in the order of single biomolecules. The imaging process demands markers with strict and reliable control of the switching, to keep most of the markers in a non-emissive state most of the time and to bring a tiny number back to an emissive state, and detection at the single-molecule level. Herein, we describe the use of rhodamine spiroamides with unique photophysical properties as molecular probes for super-resolution techniques based on the localization of single emitters. This family of photochromic and fluorescent compounds fulfils the stringent requirements for such imaging methods; these compounds are robust and capable of enduring single-molecule detection in diverse environments. This has allowed meaningful images with resolution down to a few nanometres. Their design, synthesis and implementation is discussed along with imaging applications in material and life sciences.Fil: Belov, Vladimir N. . Oxidative addition of N-aminophthalimide to conjugated and nonconjugated alkylazoalkanes

    No full text
A series of γ,δ-unsaturated azo compounds was prepared by thermal isomerization of allylalkyl-hydrazones obtained from the simplest carbonyl compounds. The oxidation of N-aminophthalimide with lead tetraacetate in the presence of these unsaturated compounds gave rise to mixtures of adducts at the azo group, regioisomers of phthalimidoazimines. The oxidative addition of N-aminophthalimide to 1-isopropylazocycloalkenes afforded bicyclic C-isopropylazo-N-phthalimidoaziridines, but the same reaction with 2-alkylazopropenes did not result in any adducts with these conjugated azocompounds

This book honours the outstanding contributions of Vladimir Vapnik, a rare example of a scientist for whom the following statements hold true simultaneously: his work led to the inception of a new field of research, the theory of statistical learning and empirical inference; he has lived to see the field blossom; and he is still as active as ever
