Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. W kontekście tematyki tego artykułu za znaczące można uznać opatrzenie "stosowną" nazwą zajęć odnoszących się do płciowości oraz to, jakie znaczenia są nadawane terminologii przyjętej dla praktyki przekazu wiedzy, kształtowania umiejętności i postaw wobec płciowości. Pretekstem do omówionych analiz stało się umieszczenie w nowej wersji podstawy programowej przedmiotu: "wychowanie do życia w rodzinie", przeznaczonej dla uczniów i uczennic klas 4-8 szkoły podstawowej, zapisu: "[uczeń] potrafi wymienić różnice pomiędzy edukacją a wychowaniem seksualnym" oraz "[uczeń]
potrafi scharakteryzować i ocenić różne odniesienia do seksualności: permisywne, relatywne i normatywne". Przyjęłam, że obecna w tych zapisach potrzeba zapoznania uczniów oraz uczennic ze znaczeniami nadawanymi wychowaniu seksualnemu oraz edukacji seksualnej wynika z chęci ustanowienia wyraźnych granic pomiędzy w określony sposób wartościowanymi praktykami edukacyjnymi odnoszącymi się do seksualności. Takie ujęcie pozwala na wstępne wyróżnienie dwóch zróżnicowanych perspektyw. W niniejszym tekście zostaną one skonfrontowane z dyskursywnym ujęciem edukacji seksualnej, a wraz z nim - z wielością i różnorodnością podejść konstruowanych w odmiennych kontekstach kulturowych.For modern liberal democracies, it is characterized by disputes about the ways in which educational practices relating to sexuality ar implemented. In the context of the subject matter of this article, it is possible to consider the appropriateness of the term "sex" as a relevant term, and what are the meanings given to the terminology adopted for the practice of knowledge transfer, skills development and attitudes relating to sexuality. As an excuse for these analyzes, the new curriculum of the subject "Education for the Family" for students and pupils of grades 4-8 in the new textbook: [student] can exchange the differences between education and sexual education and [the student] Characterize and evaluate various references to sexuality: permissive, relative, and norm ative. I have accepted that the need to familiarize students and pupils with the meanings of sexual education and sexual education is a result of the desire to set clear boundaries between certain valued educational practices related to sexuality. Such an approach allows for the initial distinction of two different perspectives. In this text, they will be confronted with a discursive approach to sexual education, and with it the multiplicity and diversity of approaches constructed in different cultural contexts

Get PDFCelem artykułu jest ukazanie sposobów partycypacji rodziców, nauczycieli i uczniów, które zostały przyjęte na potrzeby realizacji szkolnego wychowania seksualnego w gimnazjum. Na przestrzeni ostatnich lat ustalenie zakresu praw przysługujących rodzicom, nauczycielom i uczniom w tym obszarze stało się podstawą konfliktów społecznych, wiążących ze sobą zróżnicowane ideologicznie interesy. Zgodnie z aktualnie przyjętymi standardami, w toku praktyk szkolnych podejmuje się próby ukonstytuowania u uczniów określonego podejścia do płciowości z pomocą określonych treści oraz podmiotów wspierających te „próby”. Uczniowie są tu widziani jako potencjalnie niezdolni do rozumienia seksualnych sytuacji i jako potrzebujący stopniowego przekazu odgórnie przyjętej wiedzy. Rodzice zajmują tymczasem uprzywilejowaną pozycję i mają pierwszeństwo w określeniu wartości poszczególnych wyjaśnień oraz w zajmowaniu konkretnych stanowisk przez nauczycieli. W kontekście tematyki tego artykułu na uwagę zasługują jednak także odmienne interpretacje partycypacji wymienionych wcześniej podmiotów – uwzględniające prawa reprodukcyjne i seksualne czy prawo do rzetelnej informacji oraz ukierunkowane na upełnomocnianie uczniów.The aim of the article is to show ways of participation of parents, teachers and students who have been accepted for the purposes of school sexual education in middle school. Over the last years, the determination of the scope of rights for parents, teachers and students in this area has become the basis of social conflicts involving ideologically diverse interests. In accordance with the currently adopted standards, during the school internships attempts are made to construe a particular approach to sexuality in students with the help of specific content and entities supporting these "trials". Students are seen here as potentially incapable of understanding sexual situations and as needing a gradual transfer of knowledge about sexuality from the top. Parents, meanwhile, are in a privileged position and have priority in determining the value of individual explanations and taking up specific positions by teachers. In the context of the subject of this article, however, it is worth noting the different interpretations of the participation of the above-mentioned entities – including reproductive and sexual rights or the right to reliable information, and aimed at empowering students
