Transcript for lunchable learning 25: Better together partners in learning
Monday May 2nd Lunchable Learning hosts Leva Lee and Helena Prins are back together for a special extended 60 minute program! Tune-in at noon as they welcome guests Steven Bishop and Shannon Cox from Douglas College to kick-off the conference “Better Together: Partners in Learning”.
“Better Together” is a college-wide themed week of learning, collaborating, and sharing. It’s a first for Douglas College and expresses the desire to rekindle a sense of community and common mission after two years of physical distance and isolation.
Programming includes keynote speakers, interactive workshops, panel sessions, radio shows and more. While the conference is an offering for Douglas College faculty, staff and administrators, the themes discussed will certainly be of interest to everyone in the post-secondary sector and a few select sessions are open for those who wished to register, based on availability. See the conference program here: https://facilitatingfacultyonline.opened.ca/2022/03/25/better-together-partners-in-learning/
Learn how the “Better Together” conference came to be, how it is a result of a huge collaborative effort between many groups and what organizers’ hopes and highlights will be for the week. Tune-in as we celebrate with song the affirmation that we are all indeed “Better Together”. #LunchableLearning #ds106radi
Schizophrenia is a serious psychological disease with mental disorder and loss of reality. The disease affects the whole life situation for the individual. The aim with this literature review was to describe how it is to live with schizophrenia. The method that is used is literature studies which means that a collection of different patients´ stories, three biographies written by people who themselves have experienced schizophrenia have been analysed but also a novel written by an author who was in close relation with a schizophrenic patient. These materials have been analysed according to Lyckhage´s model for analysing stories. Eight categories have emerged in the result giving utterance to: To live in an alien and evil world, suicide, relation to the nursing staff, family and relatives, self-concept, experiencing anxiety attacks, and inner voices and hallucinations
LEVA : a high-mobility logistic vehicle with legged suspension
The autonomous transportation of materials over challenging terrain is a challenge with major economic implications and remains unsolved. This paper introduces LEVA, a high-payload, high-mobility robot designed for autonomous logistics across varied terrains, including those typical in agriculture, construction, and search and rescue operations. LEVA uniquely integrates an advanced legged suspension system using parallel kinematics. It is capable of traversing stairs using a reinforcement learning (RL) controller, has steerable wheels, and includes a specialized box pickup mechanism that enables autonomous payload loading as well as precise and reliable cargo transportation of up to 85 kg across uneven surfaces, steps and inclines while maintaining a Cost of Transportation (CoT) of as low as 0.15. Through extensive experimental validation, LEVA demonstrates its off-road capabilities and reliability regarding payload loading and transport
James and Joyce
In this thesis, we will look into a work of philosophy and a work of literature as allies when it
comes to discussing particular issues, namely self-knowledge. Thus, the idea that we are self-reliant
when it comes to knowing ourselves will be disproven through the analysis of James Joyce’s
Ulysses and William James’s The Varieties of Religious Experience. In what follows, we will argue
that despite people understanding each other or not, the two chosen authors show us that it is only
through our interactions with others and our trying to comprehend them that we can ever hope to
understand ourselves. However, James and Joyce do not provide us with a recipe that — should we
follow it through — will inevitably lead us to achieve self-knowledge. Instead, we have two
pseudo-solutions, for none of their ways of thinking about this offers any guarantee of success.
However, both James and Joyce indicate that there is no other way of knowing oneself than the one
each of them presents. The risk we take is misunderstandings or even total blindness when it comes
to comprehending others. Precise formulas for knowing oneself are inexistent, and all that we can
do is either settle or keep going, hoping for the best possible result.
Assim, a

Librarians and OER: Cultivating a community of practice to be more effective advocates
As the costs of scholarly and educational publications skyrocket, open educational resources (OER) are becoming an important way to provide content and enhance the teaching and learning experience. Librarians have a key role to play in developing, advocating, and managing OER. For many librarians, however, championing OERs means adding an additional responsibility to their already heavy workloads, which may be overwhelming. This article describes how a grassroots group of academic librarians in British Columbia, Canada joined together as a community of practice to learn and to share ideas, strategies, and tools to support the use of OER. The BCOER Librarians focus on the education and professional development of librarians to help facilitate the use and development of OERs and to create authoritative and sustainable resources to support librarians in OER-related interactions with faculty.Peer reviewedReview articleFinal article publishedOE
