James Bradish Letter : November 16, 1862
James updates Emma on the happenings in camp and expresses his worries about her recent illness. When discussing items he received in the mail, he notes that he wishes someone would send butter because it makes crackers more palatable. In the concluding portion of his letter, James notes that he agrees with Emma's decision not to "go with Albert" and encourages her to talk with his sister Emma J. (Emma Jane, also noted as E.J., James' biological sister) or Clark (James' biological brother)
James Bradish Letter : February 1, 1863
James comments on the deep mud in the campsite and descrbes his fondness of card playing. He says gambing is not bad in moderation, but he will stop if that is what Emma wishes. On a related note, he mentions that some soldiers want to take their names off of the allotment roll, so that one-third of their pay does not go home to their families
New Jersey's Economic Roller Coaster: From "Go-Go" to "Slow-Go"
December 2017 will mark the tenth anniversary of the last business-cycle peak in the United States as well as the tenth anniversary of the start of the Great 2007–2009 Recession (December 2007–June 2009).1 During this ten-year period, the longstanding economic and demographic foundations of New Jersey were fundamentally disrupted and transformed: 2017 New Jersey looks quite different from 2007 New Jersey. The state’s recovery from the Great Recession has been less than robust, and there is still a high degree of uncertainty about future economic prosperity.Rutgers Regional Report, Issue Paper 38
Eliza (Kortright) Monroe, n.p., to her nephew, James Monroe, United States Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., ca. 1814
His uncle James Monroe thinks he should come for the week-end to visit with them, as well as Fanny sister?; mentions "the last number published by Lockharts Sir Walter ?" and refers him to that for advice; hopes he has enough respect for her to follow her advice and uphold the name of "James Monroe," listing the following concerns: continuing to refrain from consuming liquor; always paying in full so as to not go into debt; refraining from gambling; avoiding attachments with women; not spreading rumors; attending church, reading the Bible and praying; trusting no one until he knows they can be trusted; and keeping family affairs private. 'Concrete freedom' : C.L.R. James on culture and black politics
This article aims to provide a synoptic account of the cultural writings of the West Indian intellectual and activist C.L.R. James. I aim to make a case for greater recognition of his work among cultural sociologists. I go on to show how James’ original, historicising account of cultural forms relates closely to his wider political interventions including, specifically, his ground-breaking discussion of mid-twentieth century black politics in America

Christian religion as artistic and narrative technique in James Baldwin's go tell it on a mountain
James Baldwin, the author of Go Tell It on the Mountain, grew up to experience some socio-economic problems, especially racial discrimination, that his African-American contemporaries suffered in the United States. As a writer he chose the novel as a medium to express his feelings and, indirectly suggest ways of solving some of the problems. In the novel, and through his characters, Baldwin explored such problems as hunger, lack of love, poverty, racial inequality and poor education of the Negroes, as well as the hypocrisy of the church. As he did so, he made use of Christian imagery as artistic and narrative technique. My examination of how well he used the technique is evaluated in this thesis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
Urban Development ManagementPractice Chair Urban Area Developmen
