Facial features matching using a virtual structuring element
Face analysis in a real-world environment is a complex task as it should deal with challenging problems such as pose variations, illumination changes and complex backgrounds. The use of active appearance models for facial features detection is often successful in restricted environments, but the performance decreases when applied in unconstrained environments. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce a novel method that integrates the knowledge of a face detector inside the shape and the appearance models by using what we call a 'virtual structuring element' (VSE). In this way the possible settings of the active appearance models are constrained in an appearance-driven manner. The use of a virtual structuring element in an active appearance model provides increased performance in both accuracy and robustness over standard active appearance models applied to different environments
Experimental Research and Numerical Analysis on the Law of Deteriorated Performance for R.C. Frame Structure with Seismic Damages under Elevated Temperature (part II)
The cracks were pre-settled to the R.C. frame structure caused by earthquake which was defined as the damage index ω during the modeling process with analysis software-ANASYS. The temperature field contour curve were calculated for the column and beam, the law of deteriorated bearing capacity with time for the R.C. frame structure under elevated temperature were brought forward, which can adapt to R.C. frame structure with different damage index ω caused by earthquake. The relationship between ω and deteriorated bearing capacity for R.C. frame structure was also given, which was proved to be effective and correct according to comparison with the data recorded from the elevated temperature experiment designed by author.</jats:p
Internal Friction in The Region of The Grain Boundary Peaks in Pure Zirconium and Dilute Zirconium Alloys
Title: Internal Friction in The Region of The Grain Boundary Peaks in Pure Zirconium and Dilute Zirconium Alloys, Author: R.C. Robinson, Location: ThodeInternal friction, in the region of the
grain boundary peaks, has been examined in nominally
pure zirconium and dilute zirconium alloys. Experimental
observations were made using both torsion and
reed internal friction pendulums. The effect of various
heat treatments on the peaks were investigated. Strain
amplitude dependent damping in the region of the Low
Temperature Peak was observed. A qualitative model
is presented to explain the experimental observations.ThesisMaster of Engineering (ME
De Fast-Fourier Transform: Het gebruik van de routine van R.C. Singleton
Doel van dit rapport is de lezer inzicht te verschaffen in het gebruik van de FFT-routine van R.C. Singleton zoals die in het rekencentrum van de T.H. - Delft in gebruik is.
Forecasting and Control of Aptitude Test Scores: A Human Resource Management Analysis
The present research study is designed to investigate the factors affecting aptitude test score of undergraduate students of a leading coaching class of India. The variables under consideration were the GRE score (student’s grades/marks) as a dependent variable and the initial marks in Verbal, Quantitative, 10th Grade, 12th grade, father/guardian social economic status, and daily study hours were independent variables. The data is collected from 722 students of Swati Jain Academy through separate structured questionnaire, using the simple random sampling technique and through an initial mock GRE evaluation test. For analysis, linear regression model, correlation analysis, and descriptive analysis were used. The findings revealed that father/guardian social economic status, the percentage of 10th and daily study hours significantly contribute to the academic performance of graduate students. A linear model was also proposed that will be helpful to improve the GRE/GMAT/SAT score of students from countries like India. Keywords: Educationmetric, Coaching, Aptitude Test, Forecasting, Contro
The Challenge of Reversing Theories to Hybridize Structures with Fiber Metal Laminate Design Concepts
To further optimize aeronautical structures, an increased level of material hybridization is required. Optimization efforts aim to identify optimal design solutions that satisfy prescribed requirements. However, this demands reversal of currently available knowledge on hybrid structural technologies, which are often formulated as theories predicting performance based on known load cases and selected material configurations. After briefly reviewing the available fundamental theories for strength, fatigue, and damage tolerance of hybrid structures, this paper discusses the challenges in reversing these theories. Solutions are proposed in which theories can be approximated to significantly reduce the computational time while maintaining the required level of accuracy.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Structural Integrity & Composite
Strength and ductility of R.C. columns strengthened with steel angles and battens
In this paper the behaviour of R.C. members externally strengthened with steel angles and battens subjected to axial force and bending moment is analysed. A fibre model was utilised to predict the moment–curvature diagrams of the strengthened members on the basis of stress–strain curves of the constituent materials (confined concrete, steel bars and angles) recently derived by the author. The stress–strain curves utilised for compressed concrete were able to take into account the confinement effects induced by longitudinal (bars and steel angles) and transverse (stirrups and battens) steel reinforcements. Constitutive laws in compression for confined concrete and steel bars and angles were utilised for a preliminary calibration of the compressive response of axially loaded columns strengthened with steel cages. Therefore axial force and bending moment diagrams and moment curvature diagrams were derived and verified against experimental data available in the literature. Finally, a parametric analysis showing the influence of the main parameters governing the problems (angle and strip geometry and mechanical properties of constituent material) was carried out, mainly referring to moment axial force domains, moment curvature diagrams. The analysis showed the effectiveness of this reinforcing technique in improving both the strength and the ductility of R.C. columns
