Historical crime novels and meta-reflective aesthetics
Contemporary Scandinavian crime fiction feeding on history makes use of a variety of genres and approaches, some of them launching advanced aesthetic strategies. In this article I will discuss two of these strategies. The first will be represented by the historical crime novel mixing historical layers with a contemporary setting. The second will be represented by the ‘literary’, meta-reflective novel involving crime and investigation, but in untraditional ways where various levels of reflection form a part of the plot. In various ways, both contribute to highlight the influence of fictitious modes on the way in which we conceptualize crime and its consequences. The tendency to mix a historical point of view and a representation of historical events with contemporary points of view and events, suggesting that they are mutually interrelated, is widely applied. In a Scandinavian context Kerstin Ekman’s Händelser vid vatten/Blackwater (1993/1995) represents perhaps the most influential specimen. My assumption is that it paved the way for the combination of contemporary consciousness and history for later crime authors such as Arne Dahl, Jo Nesbø and Jussi Adler-Olsen. In Mordets praktik (2009) Kerstin Ekman continued her exploration of the act of crime, inspired by, re-writing and commenting on Hjalmar Söderberg’s Doctor Glas (1905). This novel represents a peculiar way of combining a historical setting with a meta-reflective strategy, which is strongly appealing. This strategy has been pursued by several other Scandinavian authors, perhaps most prominently by Svend Åge Madsen in his novel Syv aldres galskab (1994). This novel starts with a baby murder and offers an exhilarating journey through different times and conceptions, through generations, philosophies and mysteries, searching for a pattern, before the killer is found. I shall pursue this strategy, highlighting the connections between plot, philosophical insights and aesthetics.<br/
Multicultural education, learnification, and Bildung in a Nordic perspective
In recent years, a focus on tests and concepts aimed at effective learning has become widespread in Danish schools, as represented by a comprehensive school reform in 2014, leading to significantly longer school days and an increased focus on learning outcomes. As the official political agreement on the school reform noted, it was seen as “crucial for all students to get the opportunity to unfold their potential fully and for Denmark to be able to compete successfully on the increasingly international market” (Agreement, 2013). The thinking behind the school reform, along with the dissemination of concepts such as visible learning (Hattie, 2012), which were imposed on schools through the municipalities and Ministry of Education, was met with increasing criticism from researchers and teachers, who felt that this was in conflict with their professionalism and understanding of education. Their self-understanding was related to concepts derived from continental educational thinking, such as Bildung and pedagogics (Danish: dannelse; pædagogik), and concerned with normative discussions about community and democracy rather than with how to turn children into effective and employable persons ready for further education and the labour market

Volunteer role mastery and commitment: Can HRM make a difference?
Although the literature on human resource management (HRM) has provided compelling evidence that certain HRM practices can help employees attain the competence and confidence to carry out their role, less is known about the potential impact of HRM practices on volunteers in the context of non-profit organisations. This study addresses this gap by presenting a model that situates role mastery – operationalised as role clarity and self-efficacy – as its centrepiece. Our model suggests that role mastery leads to commitment to the volunteer organisation and that role mastery can be achieved through training and supportive relationships with paid staff. A dual-mediation analysis of survey data from a humanitarian non-profit organisation in the United Kingdom (n=647) supported our theoretical model. We contribute to volunteering theory and practice by identifying tools that non-profit organisations can employ to maximise the role mastery and commitment of volunteers

Organizing Muslims and integrating Islam in Germany : new developments in the 21st century
In Organizing Muslims and Integrating Islam in Germany, Kerstin Rosenow-Williams analyzes the challenges faced by Islamic organizations in Germany since the beginning of the 21st century. Outlining the expectations German political actors have of Islamic organizations and the internal interests of these organizations, the author illustrates that organizational response strategies involve patterns not only of adaptation, but also of decoupling and protest. The study introduces an innovative research framework based on organizational sociology and provides empirical insights into three major Islamic umbrella organizations (DITIB, IGMG, ZMD) and their relationships with other actors
"Låt oss vandra i det landskap vi har" : Förlust, hopp och platsbundenhet i Kerstin Ekmans och Terry Tempest Williams naturessäer
The aim of this study is to study how the themes of loss, hope and place attachment is presented in relation to the concept of ecoglobalist affects in the contemporary nature writing of Swedish author Kerstin Ekman and American author Terry Tempest Williams. I have performed a comparative close reading of three works per author and discussed them in relation to the definitions of nature writing and ecoglobalist affects by Lawrence Buell and the definition of place attachment as a psychological process by Leila Scannell and Robert Gifford. I have found that all of the texts are clear cases of environmentally oriented literature, that the depictions of loss, hope and place attachment are very similar and that while Ekman focuses on the lack of general public knowledge and mostly refrains from dissolving boundaries between the self and the environment, Williams focuses more on the latter. I also found that while examples of ecoglobalist affects could be read in works by both authors in different ways, they were not present in all of the texts.
