Linearized pseudo-Einstein equations on the Heisenberg group

    No full text
We study the pseudo-Einstein equation R11ˉ=0R_{1 \bar{1}} = 0 on the Heisenberg group H1=C×R\mathbb{H}_1 = \mathbb{C} \times \mathbb{R}. We consider first order perturbations θϵ=θ0+ϵθ\theta_\epsilon = \theta_0 + \epsilon \theta and linearize the pseudo-Einstein equation about θ0\theta_0 (the canonical Tanaka–Webster flat contact form on H1\mathbb{H}_1 thought of as a strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold). If θ=e2uθ0\theta = e^{2u} \theta_0 the linearized pseudo-Einstein equation is Δbu4Lu2=0\Delta_b u − 4 |Lu|^2 = 0 where Δb\Delta_b is the sublaplacian of (H1,θ0)(\mathbb{H}_1, \theta_0) and L is the Lewy operator. We solve the linearized pseudo-Einstein equation on a bounded domain ΩH1\Omega \subset \mathbb{H}_1 by applying subelliptic theory i.e. existence and regularity results for weak sub elliptic harmonic maps. We determine a solution uu to the linearized pseudo-Einstein equation, possessing Heisenberg spherical symmetry, and such that u(x)u(x) \to − \infty as x+|x| \to +\infty

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Interview with Jan Nelson, OTR/L, MA

    No full text
The life history of Jan Nelson was one of 31 life history interviews conducted apart of a larger project of Life Histories of Individuals Who Have Been Influential in Developing Occupational Therapy (OT) in North Dakota and Wyoming. The purpose of this Life History is to gather information about the history and evolution of OT practice from individuals like Jan Nelson who have been influential in developing OT in these two states. This study is intended to provide current and future generations of occupational therapists a view of the history and how OT practice has evolved in North Dakota and Wyoming. This life history of Jan Nelson is a case study that examined her life as an OT practitioner and holistic practices

The Benefits of Mindfulness for Litigators

    No full text
A Growing Idea Justice Breyer has shared the importance of his daily 15-minute mental pause, and Steven Keeva's 1999 book, Transforming Practices: Finding Joy and Satisfaction in Legal Life, provides early examples of the benefits of mindfulness. Since the publication of Keeva's book, there have been numerous bar journal articles, websites, and meetings all suggesting that mindfulness may be the answer to a kinder, gentler, and more effective legal community. [...]this changed pattern of response is exactly what Judge Gold is advocating and what Peter Jarvis and Katie Lachter proposed in their recent article, "Civility: The Ultimate Legal Weapon," 2 Bloomberg L.
