No full textRecent years have seen the publication of a great deal of the work of Ruggero Jacobbi, a legendary figure of Italian twentieth-century culture, thanks to a praiseworthy retrieval of unpublished material conserved in the «A. Bonsanti» contemporary archive of the Gabinetto «G.P. Vieusseux». However, despite so many new pages of poetry and translation, what was still lacking was the writer's voice. The voice which, thanks to the painstaking work of Eleonora Pancani, we can now read (if not hear), as with characteristic dexterity it intermingles verses and music, literature and theatre, politics and entertainment. Ruggero Jacobbi alla radio presents the transcription of several radio programmes of the 70s featuring the genial culture of this multi-faceted intellectual. Jacobbi entertains his audience, discorsing on literary history, the figurative arts and opera, quoting poetry, discussing plays, mingling observations on Goldoni, Pirandello, Bontempelli, Savinio, Pessoa and García Lorca in an engaging anecdotal style that involves the cinema, the theatre and literature, while the great figures of tradition and recent history are interwoven with reminiscences of private life

Il dove evoca Italia e Brasile, bilinguismo e plurilinguismo, autori «esiliati» e la bibliografia dąi Jacobbi tra inediti ed editi, a volta ugualmente irreperibili. Quella voce che grazie all\u27attento lavoro di Eleonora Pancani possiamo ora leggere (se non sentire) mentre con straordinaria agilit\ue0 intreccia versi e musica, letteratura e teatro, politica e divertissement. Ruggero Jacobbi alla radio offre infatti la trascrizione di alcune trasmissioni radiofoniche degli anni \u2770 che hanno avuto come protagonista questo intellettuale colto, polivalente e geniale. After the trip to Brazil in his youth, in his single finished novel set in Rio de Janeiro in the Fifties, Notti di Copacabana, Ruggero Jacobbi conveyed not only the climate and atmosphere of a distant and in some ways mythical world such as Brazil, but also a significant track of the readings, meetings and influences of the great texts of Portuguese and South American literature, at the time mostly unknown in Italy. Jacobbi had an extraordinary talent at catching and interpreting the changes in the narrative code, and in this book, the author offers an incredibly intriguing experimental story with alternating voices and characters and intertwining events, contributing to the creation of a suspenseful atmosphere

No full textLettere a Ruggero Jacobbi offers an extensive register of over a thousand pieces of letters sent to the author over a period of forty years (from 1938 to 1981) and of about seventy letters written by him to various correspondents, giving an account of all the epistolary material preserved in the Jacobbi Collection of the “Bonsanti Contemporary Archive" of the Scientific Literary Cabinet G.P. Vieusseux of Florence. From the unpublished documents, carefully filed by Francesca Bartolini, the figure of an intellectual among the most significant of the Italian twentieth century emerges, always present in the cultural debates of the time and passionate and responsive towards the literary and theatrical world. Thanks to the many voices which intertwine different countries and ages, we can reconstruct life starting from the years of Hermeticism, to which he was close in his early youth, find traces of the sixteen years spent in Brazil, retrace the last Italian decades, in which he simultaneously exercised the activities of reviewer, director and theatrical author, essayist, literary critic, historian of literature, university professor, poet and director of the Academy of Dramatic Art "Silvio D'Amico". The names that recur are numerous and authoritative, even of senders of Lusitanian and Hispanic culture, testifying to the authoritative presence of Jacobbi on the European scene. Some of these important names are Murilo Mendes, Jorge Amado, Ricardo Cassiano and, among the Italians, Italo Calvino, Alessandro Parronchi, Vasco Pratolini, Salvatore Quasimodo, Vittorio Sereni and Elio Vittorini. In the appendix that closes the volume, the transcription of some letters dealing with writing, criticism, friendship and commitment is proposed

There's lots of time to map them out, that's true, but it's not enough. This is the voice of the protagonist of Convalescenza, one of the stories in this book that – thanks to the painstaking editorial attention of Silvia Fantacci – presents the prose written by Ruggero Jacobbi starting from his precocious youth through to the Sixties. The nine sections, recording fragments of memories, vestiges of mystery and bitter solitude, meander between cinema and theatre, revoke the faces of the war, recall the figures of writers and friends, suggest new approaches to reading. The evocation of Brazil, where Jacobbi spent the most important fifteen years of his life, is not lacking: a country "so big as to drive you crazy" with its magical rites, its rhythm, its culture (the music of Villa-Lobos, Vinícius de Morais and Dorival Caymmi and the poetry of his friend Murilo Mendes). The meticulous notes and the appendix at the end of the book illustrate the history of each text and offer a reconstruction of the projects for novels and stories that were left unfinished and have now finally been transferred from the mind and desk of the writer into book form

No full textUn breve testo narrativo fino ad oggi sconosciuto ci riporta, grazie all’attenta cura filologica di Gioia Benedetti, la voce di uno dei pi\uf9 originali e geniali critici del nostro Novecento. Ruggero Jacobbi, alla fine del giovanile soggiorno brasiliano, aveva affidato alle Notti di Copacabana, suo unico romanzo compiuto ambientato nella Rio de Janeiro degli anni Cinquanta, non solo il clima e l’atmosfera di un mondo lontano e per certi versi mitico come quello carioca, ma anche una significativa traccia delle letture, frequentazioni, influenze che avevano esercitato su di lui i grandi testi della letteratura lusitana e sud-americana, all’epoca ancora poco noti in Italia. Straordinariamente abile a cogliere e interpretare i mutamenti del codice narrativo, Jacobbi ci presenta in questo libro una storia sperimentale straordinariamente intrigante, che alterna voci, personaggi, nella quale le vicende si intrecciano creando un’atmosfera di significativa suspence
