Bukiety kwiatów w rozkwicie. Kanon i antologia według Harolda Blooma
The article explores the connections between the notions of canon and anthology. The organizing principles of the anthology are contrasted with the tradition of early modern poetic miscellanea. The discussion focuses on the theoretical assumptions of one of the most prominent critics of the last century, Harold Bloom, as expounded in his seminal study, The Western Canon, and his contribution as the author of many important anthologies. In particular, it points to Bloom’s ongoing preoccupation with human mortality and his belief in the salvific function of human memory.Artykuł omawia związek pojęcia antologii i kanonu. W szczególności, nacisk został położony na powracający w pismach Blooma temat ludzkiej śmiertelności i wiarę krytyka pokładaną w zbawczej funkcji pamięci
Clustering Questions in Healthcare Social Question Answering Based on Design Science Theory
In healthcare social media, users connect with patients and professionals without time and space boundaries to seek and share healthcare-related information (Denecke and Stewart 2011). A classic example of a Medicine 2.0 application is a healthcare Social Question Answering (SQA) service. Healthcare SQA services are redefining healthcare delivery and supporting patient empowerment. Healthcare SQA services allow users to seek information, communicate with others on similar problems, share health guidance, and compare treatment and medication strategies (Blooma and Wickramasinghe 2014). Examples of healthcare SQA services are MedHelp, BabyHub, and Drugs.com . The growing activities in online healthcare communities, asking questions and sharing answers, play an important role in users’ health information inquiries (Zhang and Zhao 2013). Individual behaviors, in particular health-related behaviors such as physical activity, diet, sleep, smoking, and alcohol consumption, as well as adherence to medical treatments and help-seeking behavior (Hyyppä 2010), appear to be significant in SQA services<br/
StandFram - A Method to Design and Build a Standards and Frameworks Knowledge Graph
There are many cybersecurity standards and frameworks, each representing the interests of different communities. While these standards and frameworks are rich sources of information, they are often complex, overlapping, scattered across different websites, hard to compare, subscription-based, and unstructured. For smaller businesses with limited resources, navigating these complexities in a rapidly evolving cyber threat landscape is particularly challenging. To address these challenges, industry academia research partners collaborated to collocate cybersecurity standards and frameworks relevant to Australian businesses into a knowledge graph. This graph structures the information and describes both explicit and implicit semantic connections. This paper introduces the STANDFRAM method for designing, building, and evaluating a standards and frameworks knowledge graph. The goal is to extend its use beyond the originating communities. The STANDFRAM method was evaluated by experts, and the Knowledge Graph was assessed by users to determine the utility of the developed artifacts
Grocery Retailers’ Mobile Salesforce Automation Acceptance and Usage
This study explores grocery retailers' adoption and use of mobile Sales Force Applications (SFA). The researchers present a novel model integrating the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology 2 (UTAUT2), innovation resistance theory (IRT) frameworks, and flow experience. Application of the model led to the findings that UTAUT2 constructs (performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, and habit) are key drivers of mobile SFA adoption. Interestingly, anticipated barriers related to usability, tradition, and image did not significantly hinder acceptance. A quantitative survey was used to test the model by targeting grocery retailers in Malaysia's urban and rural locations. The findings underscore the critical role of mobile SFA technology for fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies to encourage grocery retailers to adopt SFA in addressing rising sales operation costs, especially in the significant traditional grocery retail channels in developing Asian economies
What Makes a High-Quality User-Generated Answer?
Community-driven question-answering (CQA) services on the Internet let users share content in the form of questions and answers. Usually, questions attract multiple answers of varying quality from other users. A new approach aims to identify high-quality answers from candidate answers to questions that are semantically similar to the new question. Toward that end, the authors developed and tested a quality framework comprising social, textual, and content-appraisal features of user-generated answers in CQA services. Logistic-regression analysis revealed that content-appraisal features were the strongest predictor of quality. These features include dimensions such as comprehensiveness, truthfulness, and practicality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Making the world a better place with Mixed Reality in Education
Mixed Reality (MR) is an emerging technology in which the real world is enhanced by an overlay of computer graphics-based interaction. The use of MR in the Information Systems (IS) pedagogy is becoming more and more to be taken as a reflection of reality. This study expands on the current literature to plan, design, test, and evaluate the use of Microsoft HoloLens a MR device in IS classroom. This study uses design science guidelines to introduce HoloLens to 205 students in a postgraduate and undergraduate class. Student responses were both positive and negative highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of the technology, the applications and its interface as presented in this paper. This study uses Socio-Technical Interaction Networks (STIN) analytical strategy for social informatics to compare the different forms of knowledge embodiment in the mixed reality system for education
The Gnostic Author of Harold Bloom
The article contextualizes at first the occurrence of the so-called authorship studies that arose as a kind of reaction to the post-structuralist (R. Barthes and M. Foucault) redefinition
of authorship. Harold Bloom then positioned himself in this context. Namely, from the belief that post-structuralist anti-humanist tendencies initiated degenerative processes, and ultimately the disintegration of literature, he placed the canon and the author at the forefront of his literary theory. While much has been written about the first term, the second—the question of the authorship—has been mostly neglected in Bloom studies. Therefore, the article focuses primarily on Bloom’s interpretation of the author. The article tries to show that his understanding of authorship (as well as the canon, after all) derives from the Gnostic tradition (Valentin and Luria). For Bloom, the author is, it is concluded, primarily a genius—one who creates inspired by a “spark,” a pneuma, a divinity at the bottom of one’s own mind, which is actually also a certain form of anti-humanism
Perception of Digital Privacy Protection:An Empirical Study using GDPR Framework
Perception of privacy is a contested concept, which is also evolving along with the rapid proliferation and expansion of technological advancements. Information systems (IS) applications incorporate various sensing infrastructures, high-speed networks, and computing components that enable pervasive data collection about people. Any digital privacy breach within such systems can result in harmful and far-reaching impacts on individuals and societies. Accordingly, IS organisations have a legal and ethical responsibility to respect and protect individuals’ digital privacy rights. This study investigates people’s perception of digital privacy protection of government data using the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) framework. Findings suggest a dichotomy of perception in protecting people’s privacy rights. For example, people perceive the right to be informed as the most respected and protected in Information Technology (IT) systems. On the contrary, the right to object by granting and with- drawing consent is perceived as the least protected. Second, the study shows evidence of a social dilemma in people’s perception of digital privacy based on their context and culture
Mixed reality in the Information Systems Pedagogy: An authentic Learning Experience
Mixed Reality (MR) has brought a significant change in today’s world and its significance is continuously evolving in Information Systems (IS) pedagogy. This study expands on the current literature to plan, design, test, and evaluate the use of Microsoft HoloLens, which is an MR device in an IS classroom. This study uses design science guidelines to introduce HoloLens to 20 postgraduate students and 130 undergraduate students in their class. Student responses were both positive and negative highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of the technology, the applications and its interface as presented in this paper. Findings suggest that the use of an authentic learning framework provided effective instructional design guidelines support the acquisition of advanced knowledge
