Gazera heliconioides micha (H. Druce, 1896) (Fig. 13) Castnia micha (H. Druce, 1896) Taxonomic history. Described in the genus Castnia by Druce (1896) but later included in the genus Cabirus by Houlbert (1918). Talbot (1919) mentions that micha “can only be considered as a race and not as a distinct species”. Distribution. This subspecies is known from Bolivia, Paraguay and South East Brazil (Miller 1986; Lamas 1995; Rothschild 1919). Jörgensen (1930) states that it is common in all the Eastern region of Paraguay. It is, apparently, together with Castnia invaria penelope, the commonest castniid species in Paraguay. Jörgensen (1930) mentions that it flies in forested areas, near bromeliads (Bromelia sp. and Ananas sp.). It is frequently found perching close to the ground at the base of leaves or grasses and the way the moth rests and its wing and body coloration (Fig. 20 b) allows it to “disappear” in the surroundings. The first author observed individuals flying in urban places of Asunción, the capital city of Paraguay. He also observed them flying in Sapucay, Paraguarí Department and in Cerro Corá, Amambay Department. Ulf Drechsel (pers. comm.) collected and observed specimens in Sapucay, Paraguarí Department, and in Areguá, Central Department; while Contreras (2009) collected them in Ñeembucú Department. Biology and behavior. Like all taxa in the genus, they have a close resemblance to members of Lycorea Doubleday (Nymphalidae: Danainae), Thyridia Hübner and Methona Doubleday (Nymphalidae: Danainae, Ithomiini), and to Notophyson heliconides (Swainson) (Erebidae: Arctiinae, Pericopini) (Miller 1986; Lamas 1973). Two males were observed by the first author in Paraguarí and Amambay Departments, while flying low and slowly, along paths surrounded with Bromelia balansae Mez, which allowed for easy collection. They also perched close to the ground (Fig. 21). These observations clearly contrast with those made by Contreras (2009) in more disturbed habitats, where specimens were found flying fast, strongly and very high (7–8 m above ground). The host plant is unknown, but we suspect that the larvae feed on Bromelia spp. and/or Ananas spp. Contreras (2009) mentions that Orchidaceae could also be hosts of this species. This text aims to demonstrate an important educational interpretation prac-tice that is related to the analysis of the educated work, namely to buildinga justified context for the chosen strategy. In the first part of the text MichaUllman: sculptures at the interface of heaven and earth, we will explore thework of the author, who started creating in the seventies and whose workis continuously exhibited. In the second part, Strategy and its variations: finding the same whilebeing aware of differences, we theoretically anchor the difference betweenthe specific practice of the author and strategy as a discovered generality.Discovering strategies, being able to understand them in connection witha certain time, means that in case of significant similarities, we simultaneou-sly note differences and place the phenomenon in an adequate context. It is,on the one hand, a very effective educational opportunity to understand thehistory of the field in contexts and clusters and not to get bogged down inindividual cases of authorial solutions, but also an opportunity to obtain aninterpretive framework for individual authors by comparing and searchingfor similarities in substantial differences with others

    Grounded, Witness of War

abstract: For my Barrett Honors creative project, I performed George Brant's emotionally gripping and timely one-woman play entitled "Grounded" which tells the story of a fighter pilot who was recommissioned to fly drones after becoming pregnant. The effects of the demanding routine of a drone pilot are masterfully captured as the pilot endures a decline in psychological state caused by the daily circumstances of a pilot fighting in drone warfare. In addition to the performance, I kept a written journal on which I have reflected and summarized in my thesis. The creative project has indeed been one of my most challenging, yet rewarding experiences in performance thus far. With the incredible guidance of Micha Espinosa and Jennifer Linde, I was able to achieve a feat of memorizing and performing an hour and ten minute play that really tested my capacity as an actor. It expanded my skill set as an actor and allowed me to play a female role that escapes the "ingenue role" that I have been cast as constantly in my performance career. I have divided my reflection journal into four separate sections: Statement of Purpose, Background Information on Drone Warfare, Character Development and Methodological Process, Performance Reflection and "Talk-Back." These sections guide the reader through my development from the beginning of the process all the way to final performance

DOMUS CIVIS AGRICOLAE THE KÓRNIK HOUSEHOLD OF THE MICHA OWSKI FAMILY OVER THREE EPOCHS

    No full text
This article discusses the history and architecture of a typical urban smallholding located at ul. Pozna ska 13 in Kórnik belonging to the Michałowski family and the daily life which occurred there. The property used to include a house, pigsties, a stable, and a garden, all of which were lo cated between the main town road and the edge of the lake, as well as a barn and a field situated outside the town. The owner of such an urban smallholding used to be referred to as a civis agricola, or Ackerburger in German. In the 18th century, the holding belonged to the Biniaks, a family of craftsmen. Towards the end of the century, along with the hand of Katarzyna Biniak (ca. 1764-1844), it became the property of Andrzej Michałowski (1763-1830), a carpenter from the neighbouring town of Bnin. The current house and the surviving outbuildings were built in 1878 by Andrzej’s grandson, Michał Michałowski (1832-1902). It was one of the so-called Grunderzeit investment projects implemented at the beginning of the reign of Wilhelm I, Emperor of Prussia. From Micha , the property was taken over by Franciszek Michałowski (1858-1924) and his wife Anna nee Szelążkiewicz (1878-1962). The author extensively discusses the daily life in the smallholding in the first decades of the 20th century on the basis of written and oral sources collected also from their son Stanisław (1903-1984) and granddaughter Bogusława Michałowska-Kowalska (*1931), the author’s mother. Some furniture, windows, doors, paintings, daily objects, and numerous documents from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century have managed to survive in the house until today. The later history of the property reflects the subsequent changes taking place in the life of the region and the country. After Franciszek’s death, Anna rebuilt the house, which ceased to be one household, becoming several tenant flats. During the Nazi occupation, Anna Michałowska was displaced, and deprived of her right to the property for the benefit of a German woman (Ursula Lehmann?). After 1945, the communist authorities assigned several families to live in the house hold, leaving only one room for Anna’s son, Stanisław. At that time, his political career (as an MP and as Deputy Mayor of Grudziądz in the 1930s; he was a member of the underground national authorities during the occupation) had been broken. During Stalinist times, he was imprisoned and was unable to practice his profession. It was then that he came back to Kórnik and the house became again the centre of a smallholding. Currently, it is the living place of the author - Stanis aw’s grandson - and his closest family

Automated Aerial Screwing with a Fully Actuated Aerial Manipulator

    No full text
The tasks that unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have taken upon have progressively grown in complexity over the years, alongside with the level of autonomy with which they are carried out. In this work, we present an exampleof aerial screwing operations with a fully-actuated tilt-rotor platform. Key contributions include a new control framework to automate screwing operations through a robust hole search and in-hole detection algorithm. These are achieved without a-priori knowledge of the exact hole location, and withoutthe use of external tools, such as vision based hole detection or force sensors. Wrench coupling is implemented to account for the platform's kinematic constraints during screwing. The application of a constant contact force and a compliant responseto induced disturbances are obtained with the use of admittancecontrol. The full framework is validated with extensive flightexperiments that demonstrate the effectiveness of each subsystem,as well as the complete architecture. We also validatethe robustness of the detection algorithm against false positives.Within the results we demonstrate the ability to perform theautomated task with a 86% success rate over 35 flights, andmeasured hole search time of 9s (median value).Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Control & Simulatio

Developing a Sound Reducing Heat Pump Cover

    No full text
The heat pump market is growing rapidly and new noise legislation creates issues for many people living in terraced housing and apartments. The assignment was to develop a sound reducing heat pump cover for Qventi. It should reduce the sound sufficiently, while being aesthetically pleasing and easy to assemble. It should also be smaller, lighter and sold for a lower price than the main competitors.Through market analysis, it was found that 10-15dB reduction was needed to stay within legal limits and data was gathered about the types of heat pumps and sound reducing covers. Through interviews, installers were found to value ease of delivery, ease of installation and ease of quoting. There are researching users, who research and install by themselves, and there are outsourcing users, who leave everything to the installer. An anechoic chamber was used to test an aesthetic cover of Qventi with varying configurations of foam. This had no noticeable effect on the sound level of the heat pump. However, the key heat pump frequencies were found, which led to the optimal foam thickness and sheet metal thickness for the final design.Through nine iterations, the final design was reached. It consists of five sheet metal panels, with clamped-in foam. A recirculation plate splits the inner area into two compartments, preventing the recirculation of air. Anti-vibration foam is placed underneath the heat pump to prevent contact sound. The model was optimised for assembly by reducing the part count and pre-assembling the panels. Two doors were created on the side panels for easy maintenance access. The roof panel slots into place using a hidden locking mechanism.Magnelis was chosen as a metal for its high corrosion resistance, long lifespan, recyclability and low CO2 footprint. For the foam, stratocell whisper was chosen for its sound reduction capabilities, low weight, moisture resistance and long lifespan.Qventi will sell a range of sizes, with the option of custom sizing using a configure to order workflow, where models, technical drawings and quotes are automatically generated based on the specific case of the user. The first model Qventi will bring to the market will be priced at €2065,- for consumers. It is lighter, lower cost, more compact and easier to install than its competitors.Through an evaluation with users and installers, the hush was found to be more aesthetically pleasing than the rest of the market. Mainly because of the hidden screw holes and the sleek, clean and robust design.Integrated Product Desig
