STARFISH SAPONINS .18. STEROIDAL GLYCOSIDE SULFATES FROM THE STARFISH LINCKIA-LAEVIGATA
The asterosaponins of the Pacific starfish L. laevigata were sepd. into 5 compds. Four of them are known: thornasteroside A, marthasteroside A1, ophidianoside F, and maculatoside. The 5th minor component, named laevigatoside, is new and was characterized as 6α-O-[β-fucopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-α-arabinopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-[(β-quinovopyranosyl-(1 → 2)]-β-quinovopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-β-quinovopyranosyl]-20-hydroxy-23-oxo-5α-cholest-9(11)-en-3β-yl Na sulfate
STARFISH SAPONINS .28. STEROIDAL GLYCOSIDES FROM PACIFIC STARFISHES OF THE GENUS NARDOA
A review, with 5 refs., of the authors' recent work on the isolation of steroid glycosides from starfish of the genus Nardoa
A novel group of highly hydroxylated steroids from the starfish Protoreaster nodosus
The novel polyhydroxylated cholestanes I (R and R1 = H or OH) were isolated from P. nodosus and their structures were detd. by std. spectral and chem. methods
STARFISH SAPONINS .16. COMPOSITION OF THE STEROIDAL GLYCOSIDE SULFATES FROM THE STARFISH LUIDIA-MACULATA
Thornasteroside A, maculatoside (I), marthasteroside A2, marthasteroside B, and marthasteroside C were isolated from L. maculata by extn. and chromatog. on Amberlite XAD-2, Sephadex LH-60, Sephadex LH-20, and anal. HPLC on μ-Bondapack C18. The structures of the saponins were detd. by 1H- and 13C-NMR and chem. analyses. Thornasteroside A was previously isolated from Acanthaster planci, whereas the marthasterosides were previously isolated from Marthasterias glacialis
Starfish saponins, part 8. Structure of nodososide, a novel type of steroidal glycoside from the starfish protoreaster nodosus
The title steroidal glycoside (I) was isolated from P. nodosus and its structure detd. by degrdn. and spectral methods, esp. NMR
Starfish Saponins, XIII. Occurrence of Nodososide in the Starfish Acanthaster planci and Linckia laevigata
Nodososide, previously isolated from the starfish Protoreaster nodosus, was also isolated in small amts. in the 2 title species
STARFISH SAPONINS, .19. A NOVEL STEROIDAL GLYCOSIDE SULFATE FROM THE STARFISHES PROTOREASTER-NODOSUS AND PENTACERASTER-ALVEOLATUS
A new sulfated asterosaponin (I), contg. the unprecedented (20R,22S)-5α-cholestra-9(11), 24(25)-diene-3β,6α,20,22-tetraol aglycon, was isolated from the title Pacific starfish. The sulfate residue is at C-3 and the oligosaccharide chain, β-D-fucopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-D-quinovopyranosyl-(1→4)-[β-D-quinovopyranosyl-(1→2)]-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→3)-β-D-quinovopyranosyl, is at C-6
Minor Polyhydroxylated Sterols from the Starfish Protoreaster nodosus
Three minor polyhydroxylated sterols, 5α-cholestane-3β,4β,6α,8,15α,16β,26-heptol; 24ξ-methyl-5α-cholestane-3β,6α,8,15α,16β,26-hexol; and (22E)-24ξ-methyl-5α-cholest-22-en-3β,4β,6α,8,15α,16β,26-heptol were isolated from the Pacific starfish P. nodosus
Steroids from the starfish Euretaster insignis: a novel group of sulphated 3alfa,21-dihydroxy-steroids
Two groups of sterol sulfates were obtained from aq. exts. of E. insignis. The more polar components are sulfated 3β,21-dihydroxy steroids; after solvolysis to remove the sulfate groups these were identified as I [R = H, R1 = (CH2)2C(:CH2)CHMe2 (Q), CH:CHCHMeCHMe2-(E), (CH2)3CHMe2 (Q1), CH:CHCH2CHMe2-(E); R2 = bond, R1 = Q, Q1]. The less polar components are sterol sulfates, which are normal constituents of starfish. The free sterol mixt. contained a low level of cholest-7-en-3β-ol and C26-29 5α-sterols. These findings may explain the apparent absence of asterosaponins in this species
Novel marine steroid sulfates from Pacific ophiuroids
New sulfated polyhydroxy steroids were isolated from 3 species of Pacific ophiuroids. The major compd. in all 3 species was identified as I. Two minor compds. possessed the same nuclei and differed in the side chain, and 1 compd. was the 11-oxo deriv. of I. Ophiarachna incrassata Also contained a new group of sulfated 5α-H steroids possessing the unusual 2β,-3α-disulfoxy substituents
