Oral History Interview with Pierre J. J. Kennedy, March 16, 2006
The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Pierre Kennedy. Kennedy was born in France 20 February 1923. He graduated from high school in Massachusetts in 1940. He was called into active service in January 1943 at Brigantine Field, New Jersey. Upon completing basic training he went to the University of Pittsburg as an aviation cadet. After washing out, he went to Tyndall Field, Florida to attend gunnery school. He then was assigned as the tail gunner on a B-24. In August 1944 the crew flew a new B-24 to Foggia, Italy. Upon arrival the crew was assigned to the 781st Bomb Squadron, 465th Bomb Group (H). On 13 October 1944, after flying eighteen combat missions, Kennedy replaced the tail gunner on another B-24. During a bomb run over an oil refinery, Kennedy’s plane was damaged by flak and he bailed out. He was captured by German soldiers and was taken to Dulag Luft, near Frankfort, for interrogation. He was then taken by train to Stalag Luft IV where he stayed until 6 February 1945. Before the advancing Russian Army, the prisoners began a forced march that lasted eighty-six days and covered 500 miles. Kennedy describes the cold and hunger the prisoners endured. On 2 May 1945 the group was liberated by British 2nd Army Armored Division tanks. He was flown to Brussels, and was there when Germany surrendered. He boarded the USS Sea Robin (SS-407) at Le Havre and arrived in the United States on 28 July 1945. He received his discharge 20 October 1945

Sixty Years of Community: St. Olaf Catholic Parish in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, 1952-2012
This paper will explore how the parish community of St. Olaf in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, established in 1952, reflects the Roman Catholic Church, specifically at the local, state, and national levels in the United States. It will also discuss the various changes that have occurred in the past 60 years of its history in terms of the various locations of worship for the members, the growth of the community outreach programs, and the effects of the Second Vatican Council. This ecumenical council was a meeting of Catholic bishops from around the whole that brought reform to the Catholic Church and affected the relationship of the Catholic Church to the world. The parish at St. Olaf has grown from having only 125 families in 1952 to over 1,000 families in 2012

The Cathedral of St Alexander Nevski in Sofia.
Previously in the University eprints HAIRST pilot service at http://eprints.st-andrews.ac.uk/archive/00000393/Article 4 of 6 in an issue devoted to the visual culture of South Eastern EuropeBuilt to celebrate the liberation of Bulgaria from centuries of Ottoman domination, the Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevski in Sofia has aroused only scant interest among art historians both inside and outside the country. In recent years, the general disinterest surrounding this monument can be ascribed to the political climate in Bulgaria after the Second World War; for almost half a century the militant atheism of the Communist regime stifled the religious feelings of the Bulgarian people, forcing believers underground. Consequently, under pressure from the regime, religious works of art and places of worship fell into neglect.
In view of this void, the aim of my research was to document as completely as possible all the various aspects of the Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevski. I then traced the history of Bulgaria, starting from the Ottoman conquest and focusing particularly on the period of the Bulgarian Renaissance, which led the country, with the help of Russia, to freedom from the Turkish Empire and then to independence. I hope that this study will shed a glimmer of light on this splendid building and help to stimulate interest in Bulgaria's artistic heritage.Postprin
