    Functionals of exponential Brownian motion and divided differences

    We provide a surprising new application of classical approximation theory to a fundamental asset-pricing model of mathematical finance. Specifically, we calculate an analytic value for the correlation coefficient between exponential Brownian motion and its time average, and we find the use of divided differences greatly elucidates formulae, providing a path to several new results. As applications, we find that this correlation coefficient is always at least 1/p2 and, via the Hermite–Genocchi integral relation, demonstrate that all moments of the time average are certain divided differences of the exponential function. We also prove that these moments agree with the somewhat more complex formulae obtained by Oshanin and Yor

    EDUCATORS’ PERCEPTIONS OF THEIR INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP STYLES AND THEIR PROBLEM SOLVING STYLES

    Instructional leadership is not well-defined in the literature. The term has been used to describe the principal’s role as an instructional leader. However, principals are not the only instructional leaders. Teachers are as well. In this study, data on leadership and problem solving style were collected one time from 378 educators in K-12 school settings in the northeast of the U.S. The purpose is to provide an empirical evidence of what describes instructional leadership. The results of a 4x4x4 MANOVA indicated that there were significant differences between educators’ scores on the leadership subscales for the Orientation to Change (OC): Explorer-Developer (F(3, 290) = 8.236, p F(3, 290) = 4.597, p = .004, partial eta squared = .045) groups. The OC subgroups differed significantly in the areas of transformational leadership (F(3, 290) = 6.956, p F(3, 290) = 4.438, p = .005, partial eta squared = .044). The MP subgroups differed significantly in the areas of transformational leadership (F(3, 290) = 3.683, p = .012, partial eta squared = .037) and passive/avoidant leadership (F(3, 290) = 3.128, p = .026, partial eta squared = .031). There were no significant differences in mean scores of all types of leadership for the Ways of Deciding (WD) group. Furthermore, there were no significant interactions between VIEW groups. All VIEW groups scored the highest on transformational leadership and the lowest on passive/avoidant leadership. Three stepwise multiple regression analyses were used to determine the extent that educators’ gender, years of teaching experience, highest degree earned, type of certificate, and scores on the problem solving styles predicted their perceptions of their leadership styles. Results indicated that the highest degree earned, educators’ preference for Orientation to Change: Explorer-Developer problem solving style, gender, and type of certificate were significant predictors of the variance in the mean scores of transformational leadership, R squared = .189, adjusted R squared = .179, F(4, 338) = 19.67, p R squared = .049, adjusted R squared = .046, F(1, 341) = 17.40, p Data from three open-ended questions related to the participants’ perceptions of leadership and problem solving were coded and analyzed. Four common overarching themes emerged: (a) personal characteristics, (b) knowledge and experience, (c) interactions with others, and (d) setting directions. Januar 2018 wird die reine Beitragszusage erstmals in das Betriebsrentengesetz eingefügt. Larissa Schobert setzt sich mit der gesetzlichen Integration der reinen Beitragszusage auseinander, beleuchtet die Charakteristika der Zusage, wirft einen rechtsvergleichenden Blick in das US-amerikanische Betriebsrentenrecht und konzipiert ein eigenes Regelungskonzept zur Handhabung reiner Beitragszusagen. Dieses Konzept beruht auf einer Risikoanalyse in den Bereichen der Langlebigkeit, Insolvenz, Inflation und Kapitalanlage.     The aim of this thesis is to determine how women are treated in selectedworks of Henry de Montherlant. This is explored by examining their relationshipswith other women as well as with men. Inevitably, this leads to an analysis ofthe multifaceted area of love. Part I researches Montherlant's prose work and included in this section is the investigation of the importance of 'l'ordre male' to the author and the influence this exerts over his early prose work in the areas of tauromachy, war and sport, and where the male adherence to this concept leaves women. The 'syncretisme et alternance' which is central to Montherlant's thinking is explored in this section.Part 2 is concerned with Montherlant's theatre in which the psychological development of the main characters is of great importance. It is in this section that a comparative study is made of the influence of Mme. Elisabeth Zehrfuss' written contribution to La Reine morte. Her unpublished notes are set out in full in the Appendix. The thesis also draws on the unpublished correspondence between Henry de Montherlant and Elisabeth Zehrfuss between the years 1934 and 1945.     Reine Goldstein : Typen des religiösen Verhaltens und soziale Bezugsgruppen in zwei englischen katholischen Pfarrgemeinden. Mittels der Beobachtung der wichtigsten nicht-obligatorischen religiösen Handlungen (häufiges Kommunizieren, Kirchenbesuch innerhalb der Woche, Zugehörigkeit zu einer kirchlichen Organisation, gemeinsames Abendgebet in der Familie) versucht die Verfasserin eine Hierarchisierung der religiösen Verhalten aufzustellen. Dabei setzt sie die von Gabriel Le Bras auf Grund der Beobachtung der obligatorischen Handlungen aufgestellte Typologie fort. Sie sucht mogliche Korrelationen zwischen den aus einer synoptischen Analyse der von regelmássigen Teil- nehmern am Gottdienstes ausgefiillten Fragebogen gewonnenen 24 « Verhaltenstypen » und verschiedenen Bezugsgruppen (Beruf , ethnische Zugehörigkeit, Fami- lienstatus und Art der Eheschliessung, Bekehrung...). Abweichungen zeigen, dass das Kommunizieren die Rolle einer soziologischen Verhaltensnorm spielt; fur die in Westfield erlebte Religion stellt der « Kirchenbesuch innerhalb der Woche » das bezeichnende Kriterium dar; es erlaubt, verschiedene Formen der erlebten Religion, die vor Allem den durch das sozial-berufliche Merkmal charakterisierten sozialen Gruppen entsprechen, zu unterscheiden.Рэн Гольдштайн: Виды религиозных поступков и социальные рамки в двух католических английских приходах. Автор пытается установить, основываясь на главных религиозных случайных поступках (частое причастие, молитва в церкви на неделе, принадлежность к духовной организации и вечерняя молитва в семье), иерархию религиозных поступков, преследуя типологию, определенную Габриелем ле Брасом, начиная с рассмотрения обязательных религиозных поступков. Она старается найти случайные переписки могущие существовать между 24 «типами поступков», начиная с синоптического разбора опросных листков, заполненных регулярными посетителями церковной службы и другими социальными кадрами (професия, происхождение, семейный устав и вид замужества, обращение в новую веру...). Изучение встреченных аномалий показывает, что причастие играет роль социологической нормы поведения, «молитва в церкви на неделе», присущая религии, распространенной в Вестфиелде, является чертой различающей разные формы существующей религии, соответственно социальным группам, отличающимся главным образом социально-профессиональной переменчивостью.Reine Goldstein : Types of religious behaviour and social setting in two English catholic parishes. The author tries to establish, on the basis of the main optional religious acts (frequent communion, prayer in church during the week, appartenance to a church organization, and family evening prayer) a graduate scale of religious behaviour, following a typology defined by G. Le Bras, on the basis of compulsory religious obligations. She tries to find eventual matches between the « 24 types of behaviour » apparent through the synoptic analysis of questionnaires filled out by regular church goers and various social settings (occupation, ethnical background, familial status, mode of mariage, conversion). The study of the anomalies noted shows that communion plays the role of a sociological behavioral norm ; the « prayer in church on a week-day », characteristic of religious experience in Westfield, is the discriminating factor between different forms of religious experience corresponding to social groups differentiated mainly by a socio-professional variable.Reine Goldstein : Tipos de comportamiento religioso y cuadros sociales en dos parroquias inglesas.     Many internationally published writers supply their translators with additional comments on the work to be translated. The aim of this paper is to study the kind of information that authors choose to convey to their translators, and to reflect on the degree in which, besides conveying factual and lexical information, they are also supplying guidelines for the ‘right’ interpretation and translation of the text. Following Gerard Genette’s notion of paratext (1997 [1987]), the author’s comments and suggestions are defined as important ‘thresholds’ in the work’s way to the reader, ‘thresholds’ that might be seen too as the author’s attempt to counterbalance the threat of losing authorship inherent in the translation process

    In the foreword to the Mercure de France edition of de Staël. (1996 [1793]. Réflexions sur le procès de la reine. Paris: Mercure de France), Chantal Thomas, French historian and writer, writes that this apology in favor of Marie-Antoinette did not help the queen nor the author herself; on the contrary it only made the latter more unpopular. So why did Germaine de Staël write it? Mme de Staël and Marie-Antoinette did not share many interests; however, at the moment of The Women’s March on Versailles in October 1789, the situation had changed. It was at this moment, when Mme de Staël witnessed people’s hatred for the Queen, that she for the first time felt that she was on her side. She had the feeling that the Queen would be a victim to a public opinion that had been “manipulated” (Thomas. 1996. Preface. In Réflexions sur le procès de la reine, 7–14. Paris: Mercure de France: 12) in a systematic way, and to which she herself had been a victim. Pursuing some ideas formulated by Reddy (2000, 2001) and (Nussbaum, Martha C. 2001. Upheavals of thought: The intelligence of emotions. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press.) in their work on emotion and empathy in history and philosophy respectively, I hope to offer some suggestions, with the aid of cultural semiotics. More specifically I hope to be able to provide some answers to the question whether Mme de Staël’s apology might be regarded as an act of compassion
