This paper applies trauma theory to Tears of the Desert, an autobiography written by the Sudanese author Halima Bashir. It examines the traumatic experience of the protagonist Halima Bashir who has been raped during Darfur conflict. In applying the aforementioned theory, this paper shows how the traumatic memory of Halima stands as a collective memory for the oppressed Sudanese in Darfur. Halima’s work, although focusing on the rape experience of an individual, implies a political message that many Sudanese were subjected to physical and psychological traumas as they were bearing witness to the conflict in Darfur

Nyckelord: Differentierings Kluster (CD), Flödecytometri, Immunophenotypning, monoklonalitet, Myelodysplastiskt syndrom (MDS), T-cellreceptor beta constant 1 (TRBC1)  Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is a hematological disease state caused by genetic abnormalities of hematopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow. MDS has varying symptoms, but anemia is the most common and if undetected, MDS can lead to acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Studies show that monoclonal T-cell population has been detected in MDS. When diagnosing MDS, bone marrow aspirate samples are examined. This study investigated whether clonal T-cell populations arise in patients with MDS. This is made possible by studying and identifying the cells' surface markers, differentiation cluster (CD) and T cell receptor beta constant 1 (TRBC1) on T cell receptors (TCR) using the flow cytometry method. A panel of 10 antibodies, the T1 C10 panel which have TRBC1 antibodies is used in flow cytometry for immunophenotyping. 238 samples from 2020 and 22 samples from 2024 were analyzed and compiled to give a circumstantial result which was presented in a bar graph and Fisher's exact test was calculated which showed the results that monoclonality in the T cells was not significant in patients with MDS compared to those who did not have MDS. The possible explanation for this result could be the increased number of patient samples used in this study and their health status compared to those in previous studies.           Keywords: Cluster of differentiation (CD), Flow cytometry, Immunophenotyping, monoclonality, Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), T-cell receptor beta constant 1 (TRBC1

Background and AimsIn Niger, acute respiratory infections (ARIs) are the second most common cause of death in children aged younger than 5 years. However, the etiology of ARI is poorly understood in the country. This study aims to describe viral and bacterial infections among children aged younger than 5 years hospitalized with febrile ARI at two hospitals in Niamey, Niger's capital city, and the reported clinical procedures.MethodsWe conducted a prospective study among children aged younger than 5 years hospitalized with febrile ARI at two national hospitals in Niamey between January and December 2015. Clinical presentation and procedures during admission were documented using a standardized case investigation form. Nasopharyngeal specimens collected from each patient were tested for a panel of respiratory viruses and bacteria using the Fast Track Diagnostic 21 Plus kit.ResultsWe enrolled and tested 638 children aged younger than 5 years, of whom 411 (64.4%) were aged younger than 1 year, and 15 (2.4%) died during the study period. Overall, 496/638 (77.7%) specimens tested positive for at least one respiratory virus or bacterium; of these, 195 (39.3%) tested positive for respiratory viruses, 126 (25.4%) tested positive for respiratory bacteria, and 175 (35.3%) tested positive for both respiratory viruses and bacteria. The predominant viruses detected were respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) (149/638; 23.3%), human parainfluenza virus (HPIV) types 1 to 4 (78/638; 12.2%), human rhinovirus (HRV) (62/638; 9.4%), human adenovirus (HAV) (60/638; 9.4%), and influenza virus (INF) (52/638; 8.1%). Streptococcus pneumoniae (249/638; 39.0%) was the most frequently detected bacterium, followed by Staphylococcus aureus (112/638; 12.2%) and Haemophilus influenzae type B (16/638; 2.5%). Chest X\u2010rays were performed at the discretion of the attending physician on 301 (47.2%) case patients. Of these patients, 231 (76.7%) had abnormal radiological findings. A total of 135/638 (21.2%) and 572/638 (89.7%) children received antibiotic treatment prior to admission and during admission, respectively.ConclusionA high proportion of respiratory viruses was detected among children aged younger than 5 years with febrile ARI, raising concerns about excessive use of antibiotics in Niger.31768420PMC6869554832

    No full text
================================================================================================== Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is a special form of crossborder capital flows from the country of origin to the country of investment destination and GDP or known as gross domestic product is the value of goods and services produced within the country concerned within a certain period of time. Several previous research results show that there is an effect of FDI on growth GDP and GDP growth has an effect on FDI which is also supported by other variables, namely Degree of Openness, Labor Force, Gross Fixed Capital Formation and Balance of Trade, therefore the author will conduct simultaneous equation analysis using the 2SLS (Two Stage Least Square), method in the ASEAN region. Based on the results of the analysis that has been done, it is found that there is an influence of growth GDP, Degree of Openness and Labor Force to FDI on GDP with a goodness of fit 96.40% and there is an influence of FDI on GDP, Gross Fixed Capital Formation on GDP and Balance of Trade to Growth GDP with the goodness of fit 88.29%
