    The title of this research is a study in determining the factor that influences training effectiveness among staff in UiTM Kedah. The research objectives are to identify whether self efficacy gives influence to effectiveness of training, to know whether the training can make an individual or group of people more productive, efficient and useful to organization, to identify whether training boost up the staff self motivation, and also to investigate the factors that influencing training among non-academic staff in UiTM Kedah. Total respondents of 60 staffs in UiTM Kedah to fill the set of questionnaire that consists of sections which are demographic data (Section A), training needs towards employees (Section B), training motivation (section C), and training program design (Section D). This research used quantitative method. The result indicates that self efficacy is the best factor that influences training effectiveness

    Editorial: saving mothers and babies for the new world

    First, where or what is the New World? Historically, this refers to the region of the Americas. In this context, the New World is the future of humankind, an ambiguous borderless phenomenon that is informed and built upon from lessons of its past and from stories of triumph and regrets; of innovations, experiences of the pandemic, economic successes, and failures; of those unwanted wars; and of great science. The New World we envision emphasizes the quintessential of actions to ensure human survivability, by prioritizing equitable care to mothers and babies regardless of their region. Positive outcomes for mothers and babies can only be achieved by ensuring that healthcare professionals are knowledgeable, holistic, ethical, and safe and that effective execution of ethically robust healthcare policies and guidelines for equitable perinatal healthcare is adequately supported. These aims need to be at the forefront of policies of governments across all countries in the New World despite all setbacks. With this in mind, the research topic Saving Mothers and Babies for the New World accepted 16 diverse full-length articles and collected abstracts presented at the 21st Federation of Asia Oceania Perinatal Societies (FAOPS) Congress that provided a wealth of information and science that can help carve future research and inform policies

    Experiential learning manifested through hands-on experiments and problem-solving activities, plays a pivotal role in elevating cognitive engagement and facilitating the transfer of theoretical knowledge into practical application. In the spirit of fostering a love for science and hands-on learning, the Faculty of Pharmacy Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has been invited to Maahad Tahfiz Ismail (MTI) Puncak Alam in conjunction with the school’s Science Week Programme held on the 30th of November 2023.     On Wednesday 21 June 2023, the Faculty of Pharmacy UiTM, along with other exhibitors from the College of Engineering Studies, College of Creative Arts Studies, College of Architecture, and The Faculty of Health Sciences, took part in the +ICAN STEAM Outreach Program, which was held at SMK Serendah in Rawang. The program was organized by the Office of Community, Industry, and Alumni Network (ICAN) UiTM aimed to provide awareness and knowledge transfer of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) targeting 200 students in Form 1 to Form 5. The opening ceremony was attended by the school principal, Director of Industry Network Centre (INC), Professor Dr. Muhammad Hussin Ismail, members of the ICAN Office UiTM and the Faculty of Pharmacy Deputy Dean of ICAN, Dr. Norkasihan Ibrahim. The faculty team, led by Puan Nor Zaleha Ishak and Dr Nor Azma Jusoh@Yusof showcased the Do-It-Yourself Soap and Maker-Lab stations. The rest of the team comprised of members from the Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology and Chemistry departments, as well as volunteers from faculty post-graduate students. The DIY Soap station provided students with the opportunity to create olive oil soaps that were personalised with their choice of colour, aroma, and design

    Pandangan tentang matematik tercemar berikutan cara ia diajar di sekolah. Sistem persekolahan zaman sekarang berasaskan peperiksaan di mana pembelajaran terlalu bertumpu kepada pengiraan dan penggunaan rumus manakala kaedah pembelajaran terbatas kepada latih tubi. Oleh itu, pelajar mempunyai sikap yang negatif terhadap matematik. Dalam realiti, matematik merupakan ilmu yang sangat berguna dalam kehidupan seharian, menarik dan menyeronokkan. Dengan mengaplikasikan teknologi e-pembelajaran, Dunia Matematik bertujuan untuk mendedahkan sifat matematik sebenar menjangkaui matematik di bilik darjah kepada masyarakat Malaysia terutamanya pendidik, pelajar serta ibu bapa. Ia menekankan pembelajaran terbuka, pembelajaran kendiri dan pembelajaran kolaboratif yang mana membenarkan pelajar untuk belajar secara sendiri selain berinteraksi dengan objek pembelajaran, guru dan rakan sebaya. Ruangan menu utama menonjolkan artikel berkaitan matematik manakala ruangan menu aktiviti menonjolkan permainan interaktif, kuiz atas talian dan soal selidik. Ruangan e-forum, komen dan penghantaran artikel membenarkan pengguna berinteraksi dengan komuniti majalah ini. Projek ini dibangunkan menggunakan sistem pengurusan kandungan Joomla dan sistem pengurusan kursus Moodle dimana kedua-duanya merupakan perisian sumber terbuka. Penulisan ini hanya menumpukan kepada ruangan Perisian dan Fakta Ringkas. Ruangan Perisian mendedahkan pelbagai perisian sumber terbuka yang berkaitan dengan matematik seperti Open Office dan GeoGebra. Aplikasi perisian adalah penting untuk menjana idea pelajar dalam pengiraan kompleks, meneroka geometri, dan konsep kalkulus menggunakan kaedah pembelajaran yang lebih dinamik. Manakala ruangan Fakta Ringkas menghuraikan rahsia matematik dalam kehidupan seharian dan supaya lebih menghargai bidang matematik. Persekitaran pembelajaran dimantapkan dengan grafik, audio dan video. Oleh itu, diharapkan kewujudan Dunia Matematik dapat menerapkan sikap positif dan penghargaan terhadap matematik dalam komuniti Malaysia

    Penaksiran merupakan satu aspek penting dalam pembelajaran bagi mengetahui tahap pencapaian pelajar dan memperbaiki pemahaman pelajar. Dalam projek ini, perisian pengurusan kursus (Course Management System) MOODLE Versi 1.9B4 digunakan untuk menghasilkan bahan penaksiran berasaskan web berbentuk kuiz. Kuiz ini diselitkan sebagai salah satu ruangan dalam majalah web matematik yang dinamakan Dunia Matematik. Sistem MOODLE ini dianggap sesuai kerana rekabentuknya berasaskan konstruktivisme sosial yang menggariskan bahawa pembelajaran berlaku dalam konteks sosial dan pelajar membina sendiri pengetahuan baru berdasarkan pengalaman lepas. Kuiz yang dibangunkan bagi lima keluaran pertama adalah ditumpukan kepada sukatan pelajaran Menengah Rendah bagi tajuk Algebraic Expression (III) dan Linear Equations (II) dan untuk Menengah Atas tajuk Quadratic Expression and Equations dan Probability I. Kuiz yang dibangunkan adalah berbentuk aneka pilihan dengan setiap pilihan jawapan disediakan maklumbalas yang berinformatf supaya dapat membantu pelajar memperbetulkan kesilapan mereka.. Pilihan jawapan serta maklumbalas yang diberikan adalah berdasarkan kepada kesilapan lazim serta miskonsepsi yang mungkin berlaku dalam diri pelajar. Sistem kuiz juga menyediakan rekod penyertaan dan gred pelajar secara automatik. Kuiz ini diberi had masa untuk pelajar menjawabnya. Kajian di sekolah yang dilakukan oleh pengkaji lain menunjukkan kuiz atas talian ini mampu menjadikan penaksiran sebagai satu aspek pembelajaran yang lebih menarik dan efektif. Guru dan pelbagai pihak terlibat harus memberi perhatian terhadap perkara ini untuk menggalakkan penggunaan komputer untuk tujuan penaksiran pelajar

    Student’s Motivation Towards A Mathematics Online Magazine

    Mathematics is a core subject that need to be acquired and applied by students in real life. However, the teaching and learning of mathematics is still focused on examinations. As a result, students beliefs about mathematics are limited to just numbers, calculations, abstract concepts and meaningless rules. Therefore, there is a need to help students form better views about mathematics that is not confined to classroom walls. One of the recommended ways to achieve this is through multimedia in the classroom as it increases interactivity and helps students to be more independent learners. With this in mind, a mathematics online magazine christened ‘Dunia Matematik’ was developed to encourage students to view mathematics as recreational, useful and fun. It also attempts to expose students to mathematics in life through its many articles and activities. A third aim of the online magazine was to be a platform for students to interact and communicate about mathematics. The development of the online magazine is based explicitly on an Attention, Relevance, Confidence and Satisfaction (ARCS) Model for Motivation. This study uncovers students’ motivation towards the online magazine based on the ARCS Model. Students show good motivation towards the online magazine with exception to their comment and e-forum posting activities and their ability to control navigation of the online magazine. This study has uncovered a future for mathematics online magazine in the classroom so students can connect mathematics with the real world, have an appreciation towards the beauty of mathematics and develop good attitudes towards mathematics as warranted by the Malaysian Mathematics Curriculum

    Penaksiran merupakan satu aspek penting dalam pembelajaran bagi mengetahui tahap pencapaian pelajar dan bagi memperbaiki pemahaman pelajar tentang sesuatu topik pelajaran. Projek ini telah menggunakan perisian terbuka (Course Management System) MOODLE Versi 1.9B4 bagi membangunkan bahan penaksiran berasaskan web berbentuk kuiz serta berasaskan model ADDIE. Kuiz ini diselitkan sebagai ruangan dalam majalah web matematik, Dunia Matematik. Sistem MOODLE ini dianggap sesuai kerana rekabentuknya berasaskan Sosial Konstruktivisme yang menggariskan bahawa pembelajaran berlaku dalam konteks sosial dan pelajar membina sendiri pengetahuan baru berdasarkan pengalaman lepas. Kajian di sekolah yang dilakukan oleh pengkaji lain menunjukkan kuiz atas talian ini mampu menjadikan penaksiran sebagai satu aspek pembelajaran yang lebih menarik dan efektif.
