    Children's nomination of friendly places in an urban neighbourhood in Shiraz, Iran

    This study investigates how children conceive of and value the outdoor environment as a child-friendly one with particular reference to an urban neighbourhood in Shiraz, Iran. It utilizes Chatterjee's (2005. "Children's Friendship with Place: A Conceptual Inquiry." Children, Youth and Environments 15 (1): 1-26) place friendship construct to find out friendly places and their attributes from children's points of view. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 106 middle childhood children. Findings suggest that a child-friendly neighbourhood is made up of diverse places that children use to meet their different needs. However, formal and informal open spaces, private precincts, and streets in the neighbourhood afforded highest contributions to place friendship

    This master's thesis consists of a Czech language translation and commentary for selected chapters of Dans l'enfer des tournantes, an autobiography by Samira Bellil, a French author of Algerian descent. The commentary is divided into two parts: a presentation of literature written by French authors of Maghrebi descent, the so-called beurs, the language they use in literature and reception of their works; and an analysis of the source text and its reception, the problems encountered during the process of translation and their solutions as well as the chosen translation method. Pengembangan Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik (LKPD) berbasis model pembelajaran Search, Solve, Create And Share (SSCS) Pada Materi Ekologi Untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis dan Hasil Belajar Peserta Didik di SMA Negeri I Tinambung (Dibimbing oleh Ismail dan Alimuddin Ali) Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan produk bahan ajar berupa lembar kerja pesera didik (LKPD) berbasis search, solve, create and share (SSCS)yang bersifat valid, praktis dan efektif. Subjek penelitian adalah guru biologi dan peserta didik kelas X MIA4 dan MIA5 di SMA Negeri I Tiinambung. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian dan pengembangan (R&D) yang mengadaptasi model pengembangan 4D Data kevalidan diperoleh dari angket validasi produk pada materi ekologi, data kepraktisan diperoleh dari angket respon peserta didik dan guru, dan data keefektifan diperoleh dari tes hasil belajar dan tes kemampuan berpiki kritis. Data yang diperoleh dari hasil penelitian dianalisis secara deskriftif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata total kevalidan pengembangan produk berada pada kategori valid (4,6). Hasil respon memenuhi kriteria kepraktisan karena rata-rata respon peserta didik terhadap pengembangan produk berada pada kategori parktis (90,67%) dan rata rata nilai respon guru terhadap pengembangan produk berada pada kategori praktis (95,14%). Pengembangan produk memenuhi kriteria keefektifan karena jumlah peserta didik yang memperoleh nilai rata-rata N-Gain 0,70 yang berada pada kategori Tinggi dan tes kemampuan berpikir kritis nilai rata-rata N-Gain 0,70 yang berada pada kategori Tinggi, serta kevalidan lembar kerja pesera didik (LKPD) berbasis search, solve, create and share (SSCS) memiliki keterkaitan dengan hasil belajar dan kemampuan berpikir kritis.     Social media and the Arab Spring

    In late of 2010 and during 2011, the Arab countries saw a series of large scale political uprisings. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and other forms of social media have played a major role in the planning, acceleration, and even the preparation of some of the uprisings and revolutions that too place in the Middle East at this time. Social media was employed effectively to awaken the Arab people and to mobilize them to fight against repressive regimes in their drive for greater freedom and independence. This paper will discuss the cause of the uprisings.     The Poetics of Textual Thresholds in Ahcene El-Kharrat’s Collections of Poetry

    Abstract: The aim of this study is to analyze the poetics of textual thresholds in the poetry of Ahcene El-Kharrat (1989-2019), to query their various dimensions, connotations and artistic features, based on the assumption that contemporary poetic text is no longer just a set of poems nicely written and collected in a book, but rather a mosaic of written texts, para (meta) texts, and thresholds related to their hypertext. The thresholds’ role is vital. Its importance cannot be ignored while formulating the general poetic context of the poem. The latter cannot reach completeness without its textual thresholds that opens up new poetic and artistic perspectives. We will shed light, in this analytical and intertextual research, on the thresholds of the poems in the collections of the Algerian poet Ahcene El-Kharrat entitled: Nabdh-al-faji’a (Pulse of Bereavement), Basar Al-Turab (Sight of the earth) and Shatah Al-darawishes (the Dervishes’ imagination).     Quercetin Alleviates the Immunotoxic Impact Mediated by Oxidative Stress and Inflammation Induced by Doxorubicin Exposure in Rats

    Doxorubicin (DOX) is a chemotherapeutic agent against hematogenous and solid tumors with undesirable side effects including immunosuppression. Quercetin (QUR), a natural flavonoid abundant in fruits and vegetables, has a potent antioxidant activity. The aim of the current study was to assess the impact of QUR on DOX-induced hematological and immunological dysfunctions in a rodent model. Randomly grouped rats were treated as follows: control, QUR alone (50 mg/kg for 15 days per os), DOX alone (2.5 mg/kg I/P, three times a week, for two weeks), and co-treated rats with QUR for 15 days prior to and concomitantly with DOX (for two weeks), at the doses intended for groups two and three. DOX alone significantly disrupted the erythrogram and leukogram variables. Serum immunoglobulin (IgG, IgM, and IgE) levels and the activities of catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in spleen were declined. The DNA damage traits in spleen were elevated with an upregulation of the expression of the apoptotic markers (p53 and Caspase-3 genes) and the proinflammatory cytokines (IL-6 and TNF-α genes), while the expression of CAT gene was downregulated. These biochemical changes were accompanied by morphological changes in the spleen of DOX-treated rats. Co-treatment with QUR abated most of the DOX-mediated alterations in hematological variables, serum immunoglobulins, and spleen antioxidant status, pro-inflammatory and apoptotic responses, and histopathological alterations. In essence, these data suggest that QUR alleviated DOX-induced toxicities on the bone marrow, spleen, and antibody-producing cells. Supplementation of chemotherapy patients with QUR could circumvent the DOX-induced inflammation and immunotoxicity, and thus prevent chemotherapy failure

    Electron–hole superfluidity in strained Si/Ge type II heterojunctions

    Excitons are promising candidates for generating superfluidity and Bose–Einstein condensation (BEC) in solid-state devices, but an enabling material platform with in-built band structure advantages and scaling compatibility with industrial semiconductor technology is lacking. Here we predict that spatially indirect excitons in a lattice-matched strained Si/Ge bilayer embedded into a germanium-rich SiGe crystal would lead to observable mass-imbalanced electron–hole superfluidity and BEC. Holes would be confined in a compressively strained Ge quantum well and electrons in a lattice-matched tensile strained Si quantum well. We envision a device architecture that does not require an insulating barrier at the Si/Ge interface, since this interface offers a type II band alignment. Thus the electrons and holes can be kept very close but strictly separate, strengthening the electron–hole pairing attraction while preventing fast electron–hole recombination. The band alignment also allows a one-step procedure for making independent contacts to the electron and hole layers, overcoming a significant obstacle to device fabrication. We predict superfluidity at experimentally accessible temperatures of a few Kelvin and carrier densities up to ~6 × 1010 cm−2, while the large imbalance of the electron and hole effective masses can lead to exotic superfluid phases.QCD/Scappucci La

For this purpose, the ZIF-11 particles were analysed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry. In batch experiments, the effective BCG adsorption parameters onto ZIF-11 particles were exam-ined. Based on the characterization results, the synthesized ZIF-11 showed a highly porous, irreg-ular, and inhomogeneous shapes and crystals with varying sizes as well as high thermal stability. The adsorption results indicated that the highest BCG removal (89%) was obtained when the solu-tion pH, the stirring speed, the contact time, and the temperature were adjusted to 6.8, 400rpm,30min, and 298K, respectively. The adsorption data fitted well to Langmuir and Temkin mod-els with maximum adsorption capacity of 150mg/g.The adsorption kinetics was compatible with the pseudo-second-order and the intraparticle diffusion models. Indeed, BCG molecules instanta-neously adsorbed on the external surface of ZIF-11 particles and gradually diffused within theirs pores. The negative value of free energy change and positive values of enthalpy and entropy changes showed the feasibility, randomness, and endothermicity of the BCG adsorption process, which was found to be physicochemical base
