Research is conducted to infer or generalize research objectives from a sample to a larger population. Statistical methods is used in order to accomplish the process of inference, where a sample is selected as an unbiased representative from the population. The result for research (reading subject) performance were the lowest reading rates (78.4%) compared to other Southeast Asian neighbors. This is due to the weakness of teaching and learning (P&P) techniques. Mind mapping techniques were used to overcome the weakness. This research focuses on using interactive slides as a tool to help in drawing the student’s interest. Therefore, Sampling Design topic was used as the content of interactive slides. Two groups were used in this research. The result for the group that used interactive slides were positive result (93%) as compared to group that were not using interactive slides (7%). Overall, all the students agreed that the slides arrangements are clear, organized and easy to understand. More than 50% of the students agreed that the slides help them to increase their interest on the subject. As a conclusion, all students were satisfied and strongly satisfied with the interactive slides provided in the teaching and learning (P&P) proces

Identification of High Leverage Points in Multiple Linear Regression / Noor Azima Ismail... [et al.]

    No full text
Outliers with respect to the predictor variables are called high leverage points. The observations that are slightly different from all others can drive to a large difference in the results of regression analysis. In regression analysis, the detection of high leverage points is compulsory, as they will give large impact on the estimation values as well as lead to multicollinearity problems. In this situation, robust regression procedure can be very useful to deal with problems arise due to the existence of high leverage points. The aim of this study is to compare the performance of three methods in detecting high leverage points. At first stage, the two well-known data sets are considered. The first data used is artificial data set generated by Hawkins, Bradu and Kass in 1984 and the second data used is stack loss data by Brownlee in 1965. The second stage of this study is to conduct simulation study whereby the data were generated based on clean and contaminated data. The three sets of measures being considered in this study are Leverage methods Ttwice-the-mean-rule), Generalized Potentials and Diagnostic Robust Generalized Approach (DRGP). The result indicates that DRGP successfully proved its ability as a powerful method of detecting high leverage points as compared to the other two methods using both artificial data sets and simulated data

The correlation coefficient is one of the most commonly used statistical measures in all branches of statistics. The empirical evidence shows that this correlation coefficient is sufficiently non-robust against outliers. The aimof this study is to compare the performance of the estimator of correlation coefficient. In this study, Pilot-plant data was considered at first stage. Second stage of this study, the simulation data were generated based on normal and uniform distributionat its four contaminated form. The methods of analysis used in this study were Pearson’s correlation coefficient and An Absolute Value correlation coefficient. It can be conclude that an Absolute Value correlation coefficient performs well and more robustcompared to Pearson’s correlation coefficient in existence of outliers. Then we investigated the bias, standard error (SE) and root mean square error (RMSE) to judge their performance. The result shows that an Absolute Value performs better than Pearson’s correlation coefficient. In general An Absolute Value correlation coefficient appears to be a good estimator because it has the lowest values of bias, standard error and RMS

Physical activity is an essential contributor to adolescents' psychological well-being. This research aims to explore the impact of habitual physical activity on the self-confidence and self-esteem of teenagers. Additionally, the study investigates the mediating role of self-esteem in the connection between habitual physical activity and adolescent self-confidence. The sample comprises 286 teenagers from a prominent higher education campus in Kelantan, and data collection is carried out through self-administered questionnaires. Ordinary least squares estimation is used for data analysis. The findings reveal a significant positive effect of habitual physical activity on confidence and selfesteem. Moreover, self-esteem is identified as a significant mediator in the relationship between habitual physical activity and self-confidence. Interestingly, the study does not observe a significant difference in self-confidence levels between genders. The anticipated outcome of this study is to offer valuable insights for the government, higher education administrators, and policymakers to advocate for the active participation of adolescents in physical activities, fostering positive psychological health among them

Oral cancer a highly morbid disease which has become a serious public health concern in most countries such as Germany, India and Indonesia and can cause death. Oral cancer is a disease that can occur in the surrounding of the mouth, oral cavity and oropharynx. The aim of this study was to identify the awareness of oral cancer among students in UiTM Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Four variables were investigated in the study including socio- demographic profile, knowledge of signs or symptoms of oral cancer, knowledge of risk factors of oral cancer and student’s habits. Stratified Random Sampling was used to select the respondents. Pearson’s correlation coefficient was used to analyze the signification relationship between dependent variable and independent variable. Multiple linear regression used to analyze the factors influence significantly to the awareness of oral cancer. Demographic analysis used to analyze the socio-demographic data. It was found that all three variables, (knowledge of signs or symptoms of oral cancer, knowledge of risk factors of oral cancer and habits) are significant effect to the awareness of oral cancer among students in UiTM Kota Bharu, Kelantan

The purpose of this study is to examine the significant difference in mean on graduate unemployment from students' perspectives between genders and to study the factors that influence graduate unemployment from students' perspectives and also their relationship. This study is aimed at undergraduate students of UiTM Kota Bharu Campus in Kelantan, as the population. Two hundred and ninety-three students were selected as the respondents using the stratified sampling technique. A cross-sectional design was used to collect primary data, and SPSS was used to analyze the primary data that had been collected. The study indicated a significant difference in mean on graduate unemployment from students' perspectives between genders on Independent T-test analysis. The independent variables had a moderate positive correlation with the dependent variable using Pearson Correlation. Furthermore, from the Multiple Linear Regression analysis conducted, three independent variables, unrealistic salary, academic performance, and graduate attributes, significantly affect graduate unemployment from students’ perspectives. However, employability skills do not significantly affect graduate unemployment from students' perspectives. Therefore, this study can help future graduates to prepare themselves before venturing into the realm of work

Life satisfaction is one of the important aspects of life for students since it is part of their daily life. Due to the decreasing life satisfaction among students, this study was carried out with the intention to find out the determinants of students’ life satisfaction at higher institution. There are several factors investigated in the study including stress, academic performance, peer’s relation and financial status. Stratified random sampling method was implemented to select 298 students in UiTM Kota Bharu as respondents in this study. Demographic analysis used to analyze the socio-demographic data. Pearson’s correlation coefficient was utilized to analyze the significant relationship between students’ life satisfaction and independent variables; namely stress, academic performance, peer’s relation and financial status. The result shows that all the independent variables are significantly have relationship between the life satisfaction. Independent t-test was carried out to analyze the significant different of students’ life satisfaction between gender. It can be concluded that there is no significant different between gender (male and female) and life satisfaction. Multiple linear regression method was applied to determine the significant factors that influence students’ life satisfaction. As a result, the four factors turned out to have a significant effect towards students’ life satisfaction

The effect of high leverage points on VIF measures on noncollinear data / Nurul Bariyah Ibrahim... [et al.]

Multicollinearity is a case of multiple regression in which the predictor variables are highly correlated among themselves. The problem will get more complicated when multicollinearity exists together with high leverage points. The usage of classical VIF for multicollinearity diagnostics is not reliable as it is not resistant to the presence of high leverage points. In this study, we proposed RVIF which is based on the MM estimator in the detection of multicollinearity due to the high leverage point. The computation of RVIF is based on robust coefficient determination which is called RR2 (MM). We denote this estimator as RVIF (MM). The numerical results and Monte Carlo simulation study indicate that the CVIF performs poorly in the presence of high leverage point and the proposed RVIF is very resistant to the high leverage point and unable to detect the multicollinearity in the data

Oedipal dynamics between a male-female co-therapist dyad and a group of adolescent boys with learning difficulties : a case study exploration

    No full text
Includes bibliographical references.Theoretical literature indicates that a male-female co-therapist dyad in a psychotherapy adolescent group provides for the opportunity of parental transferences, including Oedipal conflicts, to occur. However, limited empirical data is available regarding male-female co-facilitation in therapeutic groups for adolescent boys with learning difficulties, especially concerning the re-activation of the Oedipal complex. This dissertation explored the usefulness of Oedipal theory for understanding the interactions that emerged between a group of adolescent boys with learning difficulties and a male-female co-therapist dyad. The study was located within a theoretical context of understandings of the re-activation of the Oedipal complex during the developmental stage of adolescence, and the manner in which learning difficulties contribute to and maintain difficulties in children's cognitive, social and emotional development. The research takes the form of a psychoanalytic case study. Vignettes drawn from clinical case material of the psychotherapy adolescent group of the Learning Problem Programme (LPP) at the Child Guidance Clinic of the University of Cape Town were analysed using a psychoanalytic framework. The group members consisted of 10 adolescent boys, mainly from disadvantaged communities in the 'Cape Flats' area of Cape Town. Analysis of the case material indicates that the manner in which Oedipal phenomena unfolded was influenced by multiple factors, and highlights the limitations of an interpretive therapeutic model in group work with adolescent boys who have learning difficulties. Recommendations for the LPP psychotherapy group, and for group work with adolescent boys with learning difficulties in other contexts, are offered
