The main aim of the thesis is to investigate the errors most Malay students make in their written compositions ..The error analysis will be focused on the lexical errors or vocabulary errors . The findings of the investigation are based on the 60 selected samples (at random) among the form five students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Rusila in the rural area of Marang.Terengganu. Chapter One begins with the Introduction . A review of related literature on the use of Error Analysis as the medium of investigating vocabulary errors is discussed in Chapter Two. Chapter Three deals with the research design and methodology of the study undertaken for the present study. Chapter Four focuses on several findings and the presentation of that findings The Final Chapter highlights Summary, Conclusion and several recommendations

Assessment of empirical conversion methods for producing 1-min integration time rainfall rate in Malaysia

    No full text
This paper presents assessments of empirical conversion methods in obtaining cumulative distribution function of rainfall rate at 1-minute integration time. From collected measured data in Kuala Lumpur, cumulative distributions of rainfall rate at various integration times were compiled. Four conversion methods were selected in the assessment namely: Segal, Burgueno, Ismail et al and Polynomial. The generated 1- minute statistics using the mentioned four empirical conversion methods are then compared with measured statistics, in order to test its validity. Based on the assessment, it can be suggested that the Ismail et al and Polynomial conversion methods seem to be capable of producing rainfall rate statistics at 1-minute integration time with close approximation to the measured values

Jana CL, Jusoh I. 2021. Structure and tree species composition of forest fringe of a forest fragment in an oil palm plantation at Suai, Sarawak, Malaysian Borne. Biodiversitas 22: 3013-3019. Forest fragments in oil palm plantations are remnants of the original forest tract with various sizes and shapes after clearing forested lands for crops and roads. Fragmented forests usually created forest fringe or edge habitats that differ in light intensity, temperature, humidity, heavy rainfall, and strong winds from its core. The study was aimed to determine the structure and tree species composition of the forest fringe of a fragmented forest in an oil palm plantation Suai, Sarawak. This study established a total of 24 sampling plots within the forest fringe. Tree enumeration and species identification were conducted in all sampling plots to all trees with a diameter at breast height 5 cm and higher. A total of 59 families comprised of 274 species and 948 trees individuals were recorded. The aboveground biomass stand at 260 Mg ha⁻¹. Species Elateriospermum tapos was predominant, and family Dipterocarpaceace dominated the forest fringe. Based on the calculated indices, species diversity and richness were considered high, while the dispersion of individual trees was random but unevenly distributed. Natural regeneration in the forest fringe is sustainable. The forest structure and species composition are intact, and without significant disturbance, the whole forest fragment is self-sustain

Growth and yield of Acacia mangium based on permanent sampling plots in a plantation

Acacia mangium is a very fast growing species belonging to the family fabaceae. It has been introduced in plantations in Sarawak, Malaysia for its rapid growth and wide range of adaptability. These plantations are anticipated to play the important roles in maintaining the commercial supply of logs thus reducing timber demand from the natural forests. Many plantations now used genetically improved material whose characters and properties have been improved through many years of research. Thus the study of growth and yield are crucial in order to have a more proper planning and management of this forest resource. This study assessed the growth and yield of the two acacias namely Acacia mangium superbulk or Acacia superbulk which is actually a second generation A. mangium and Acacia hybrid. The data obtained from permanent sampling plots (PSPs) of DAIKEN Plantation Sdn. Bhd. Bintulu were analysed to determine their mean annual increment (MAI) and periodic annual increment (PAI) in terms of diameter at breast height (DBH) and volume. Survival rate reduced as age of stand increased. Although DBH and height increased in size but the mean annual height and DBH increments decreased with age. The largest mean DBH recorded for Acacia superbulk and Acacia hybrid PSPs were 23.6 and 25.6 cm, respectively. Mean total height measured for Acacia superbulk and Acacia hybrid PSPs were 32.4 and 30.2 m, respectively. The highest volume mean annual increment was 27.4 m3 /ha/yr (6.9 years old) and 26.5 m3 /ha/yr (7.4 years old) for Acacia superbulk and Acacia hybrid, respectively. Initially growth in volume increased then began to decrease from seven years. Results of the four PSPs indicated that the maximum growth in volume per ha was attained at approximately seven years old stands
