    Menelusuri era digital ini, aplikasi media sosial telah menjadi sebahagian besar daripada kehidupan seharian kita. Kewujudan pelbagai platform dan aplikasi komunikasi digital seperti Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, dan Snapchat, menjadikan komunikasi lebih mudah dan pantas. Data statistik menunjukkan sehingga Januari 2024, sebanyak 28.68 juta bersamaan 83.1 peratus jumlah populasi penduduk Malaysia menggunakan media sosial untuk berkomunikasi, berkongsi maklumat, dan berhubung dengan orang lain (Data Reportal, 2024). Ini secara tidak langsung memberi gambaran “tahap digital” rakyat Malaysia dan menunjukkan proses perkembangan platform digital. Sebelum kewujudan platform komunikasi digital, komunikasi utama berlaku melalui medium seperti surat, telefon, dan pertemuan muka ke muka. Kaedah berkomunikasi seperti ini menuntut komitmen masa dan usaha untuk berhubung dengan orang lain, terutamanya melibatkan jarak jauh

    Media sosial telah menjadi sebuah platform yang sangat berpengaruh dalam penyebaran informasi, pandangan, dan gerakan sosial, termasuk tingkah laku boikot. Pengaruh media sosial terhadap tingkah laku ini dapat dilihat dari beberapa aspek, antaranya penyebaran informasi secara pantas dan luas. Media sosial membenarkan penyebaran informasi tentang isu dan tujuan boikot. Pengguna dapat akses yang mudah terhadap berita, artikel, video, dan infografik yang menyokong atau menentang boikot. Hal ini dapat meningkatkan kesedaran orang awam dalam tempoh yang singkat terhadap isu boikot yang belarutan sehingga kini. Mobilisasi massa yang bermaksud sebagai proses yang mendorong orang ramai dalam pelbagai peringkat (nasional mahupun tempatan) dapat meningkatkan kesedaran secara bersemuka. Media sosial membolehkan masyarakat dan syarikat merancang dan menyelaraskan usaha boikot dengan lebih cekap. Masyarakat boleh berkumpul secara dalam talian dengan tujuan yang sama untuk berkongsi kesedaran seperti menganjurkan acara di Facebook, penggunaan ‘hashtag’ di aplikasi X dan menjalankan kempen di Instagram bagi membantu menyatukan orangramai dengan tujuan yang sama

    Link to publisher's homepage at http://link.springer.com/This paper presents a new joint channel estimation method for Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) systems based on a Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) reduced-rank technique. The system capacity is increased by increasing the highest number of users in one time slot. The additional channel estimation processing required for the increasing number of users is solved by adopting the reduced-rank technique, which estimates a limited number of parameters that are needed to describe the channel matrix and reduce the dimensionality of this matrix. Simulation results prove the validity of the proposed reduced-rank technique for channel estimation accuracy enhancing. Additionally, it is shown that the detectors based on the reduced-rank estimators outperform traditional channel estimators, contributing to 7.8 and 6.9 dB BER performance improvements for indoor and vehicular channels, respectively

    Innovation-driven strategic partnership between industry and academia in nurturing the growth of technology for global halal sector

    What is more interesting about the concept of halal food and sustenance mentioned in the Al-Quran is the adjective "toyyib" which follows. Toyyib (or toyyibah; toyyibat or tuuba as plural) in terms of the meaning, is something good or the opposite of bad. So, if the so-called "halalantoyyiban", it means something that is Halal that comes with it the goodness. There are four (4) places in the Qur'an where Allah use ‘toyyib’ as an adjective to describe Halal food or sustenance, in Surah al-Baqarah, verse 168; Surah al-Maaidah, verse 88; Surah al-Nahl, verse 114 and Surah al-Anfal, verse 69. Islam asserts that things that are “barakah” may spread goodness to many people for a long period of time. Indeed, efforts to look for Halal and good sustenance form one economic power at the level of individuals, society and nation, that it must serve as the basis of life as one that needs to be achieved by each individuals as well as a government. The terms “look for Halal and good sustenance” itself represents the importance of innovation for Halal, and thus comes with it the “effort to look for Halal and good sustenance”, literally means that this has created a demand of consumers from the economic perspective. Innovation is the most important way of taking Halal food to the next level. Innovation comes with it the utilization of technology, and the utilization of technology comes with it economic growth. The wisdom of Islam demands that Muslims are to equip themselves to economic strength, since it is linked to the top element in the rank of “maslahahdaruriyah”, that is to maintain the sanctity of Islam and faith on an individual. To bring technology to innovation requires intense research. The route for research to innovation would require strategic partnership between academia and industry as the main players in Halal industry. With innovation, Halal market player (industry) can identify new opportunities that by searching a gap in the market, a new trend and changes in customer behaviour. To attain this level, Halal entrepreneurs should be always screening several ideas into a manageable number of high potential options for further development, and for academicians to take this further in their research and development. This mutual understanding and partnership will only be materialised through the innovation-driven partnership model between industry and academia

    Evaluation of Malaysia MOOCs development: from the student perspective

    A massive open online course (MOOC) is an example of an education evolvement as an online open course that is structured around a set of learning goals and facilitates the creation of learning community without restrictions. The aim of this chapter is to evaluate the effectiveness of deployment of four pilot MOOCs developed as part of the Malaysia MOOC initiative. Participants were first-year students in the first semester 2014/2015 from Malaysia HEI that registered for the four courses, Tamadun Islam dan Tamadun Asia (TITAS), Hubungan Etnik, Introduction to Entrepreneurship, and ICT Competency. Quantitative data was collected through a set of questionnaires filled out by a total of 4,449 first-year students. Collected data from the online survey were analyzed through descriptive analysis (frequency and mean). The results revealed that there are positive student insights on MOOCs’ curriculum, learning design, content quality, and impact on teaching and learning activities. However, the university spends less effort on the infrastructure, as the students depend only on the universities’ network connection. Hence, this initiative is promising, and MOOCs could potentially become “the” platform of teaching and learning in transforming education in the digital age

    Movement direction-based handover scanning for mobile WiMAX

    Mobile WiMAX is a broadband technology that is capable of delivering triple play services (voice, data, and video). However, mobility in WiMAX system is still an issue when the mobile station (MS) moves and be handovered between base stations (BSs). This issue can cause unnecessary neighboring BS scanning and association, handover delay, and MAC overhead which may affect real-time applications. In this paper, the MS movement direction prediction (MMDP) based MS scanning to overcome the mobile WiMAX handover issues is presented. In this scheme, only potential BS candidates will be chosen for scanning purpose. Hence, the MS scanning process reputation will be reduced with these shortlisted BS candidates instead of scanning all neighbors BSs. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme reduces total scanning delay and scanning interval duration by 25% and 50% respectively

    The world has been surprised by the COVID-19 pandemic. Teaching and learning activities have changed tremendously. Alternative online platforms have been used to cater to the need in assessing the affective domain activities such as presentations, discussions and group projects. Therefore, this paper intends to share the feedback on the approach of online assessment for the affective domain using Flipgrid as a platform for short video assignment. One of the amazing and useful online apps for video assignment that captured students’ verbal responses. This app helps the students to take part in the learning process, especially in the affective domain. The process of learning to portray an idea or concept, and to convert into own understanding is the learning outcome. This paper explains the students’ feedback on the usage of flipgrid for short video assignment. Feedback process was carried out by using questionnaires to gauge students’ satisfaction and their experience. The advantages of flipgrid are easily downloadable by any user to a mobile device

    Aligned gap multiple split ring resonator biosensor for DNA hybridization detection at microwave frequency

    In this paper, the interest of microwave signals for biological detection applications using metamaterial structure as a biosensor element has been demonstrated. Microwave sensing is highly challenging for biological detection as it presents the attractive advantages of being contactless, non-invasive at low power level and yet its label free. The resonant frequency of the sensor is measured as 4.96 GHz. The shift in resonant frequency is employed as the sensor output for deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) detection. The resonance frequency is shifted to the left when single stranded deoxyribonucleic acid (ssDNA) is immobilized onto gold surface and further shifted when hybridization or the binding event between the molecule of ssDNA and cDNA occurred. The sensitivity of this biosensor is up to 10 MHz/Molar with the detection limit of Molar is conducted during this experiment
