Case Series of Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes Associated with Oropouche Virus Infection
No full textThe Oropouche virus (OROV) is an arbovirus (Peribunyaviridae: Orthobunyavirus) that traditionally causes febrile outbreaks in Latin America’s Amazon region. Previously, OROV was not associated with severe pregnancy outcomes. During the 2022–2024 outbreak in Brazil, OROV expanded geographically, revealing links to adverse pregnancy outcomes. This study describes six cases with varied fetal outcomes, including miscarriage, antepartum, intrauterine fetal demise (IFD), and normal development, correlating with maternal symptoms but not symptom severity. Vertical transmission was confirmed by detecting OROV through RT-qPCR, ELISA, and immunohistochemistry in fetal tissues. Genome sequencing from an IFD case identified a novel reassortment pattern reported in the 2022–2024 outbreak. Severe encephalomalacia, meningoencephalitis, vascular compromise, and multi-organ damage were evident, underscoring the significant risk OROV poses to fetal development and emphasizing the need for further investigation
Estado, Economia e Trabalho em Saúde. Brasil e Portugal no Rescaldo da Pandemia
Get PDFO III Curso Internacional Estado, Economia e Trabalho em Saúde, realizado em Recife — Brasil (2023), proporcionou um debate interdisciplinar sobre os efeitos da pandemia de COVID-19 com particular foco nas relações de trabalho e saúde, tendo resultado em nove trabalhos inéditos que integram este livro. Destes, cinco trabalhos tomam como referência a realidade brasileira, com destaque para a qualidade de trabalho, a saúde mental e os efeitos das plataformas digitais na saúde. Do lado de Portugal, expõem-se as desigualdades sociais, a precarização e opacidade laboral, bem como os dilemas de atuação de equipas interprofissionais que permeiam o campo da saúde. Com esta publicação contribui-se para a disseminação do conhecimento científico, visando que estudantes de pós-graduação ampliem as contribuições em torno da agenda de investigação Trabalho e Educação em Saúde no Brasil e Portugal.The III Curso Internacional Estado, Economia e Trabalho em Saúde (III International Course on State, Economy and Labour in Health), held in Recife, Brazil, in 2023, offered a platform for interdisciplinary discussion on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. With a particular focus on labour and health relations, this course gave rise to nine original articles, all of which are featured in this book. Among these articles, five focus on the Brazilian context, highlighting issues such as work quality, mental health, and the impact of digital platforms on health. The Portuguese contributions address social inequalities, job insecurity, and the lack of transparency in the workplace, as well as the challenges faced by interprofessional teams in the health sector. This publication contributes to the dissemination of scientific knowledge, aiming to inspire and support postgraduate students in enhancing their contributions to the research agenda in Work and Health Education in both Brazil and Portugal
