    Rhizoecus albidus Goux (Fig. 54) Rhizoecus (Pararhizoecus) albidus Goux, 1942: 40. Rhizoecus uniporus Borchsenius & Tereznikova, 1959: 323. Rhizoecus gentianae Panis, 1968: 550. DIAGNOSIS. A very small elongate-oval species. Posterior end of body rounded. Anal lobes poorly developed, each with 1 long ventral seta and 2 long dorsal setae, appearing as a group of 3. Antennae 6 -segmented, geniculate. Both pairs of ostioles well developed. Circulus present within borders of segment IV, heavily sclerotized and cone shaped with distal circular plate containing about 7 circular areas. Dorsal surface with numerous short, pointed setae and forming distinct groups on thorax and head; ventral surface with a more or less quadrate sclerotized area containing 4 marginal setae just anterior to clypeus; other body setae short and slender. Trilocular pores scattered on dorsum and venter. Dorsal tritubular pores not numerous, rarely more than 3 on abdominal segments and thorax, and sometimes only a single one on midline but tending to be scattered on head. Ventral tritubular pores very few, usually with a single marginal pore on some of posterior abdominal segments, plus occasional pores on thorax and between antennal bases. Some very minute ducts present on abdominal segments, these very simple and heavily sclerotized, entirely absent from some segments but others with up to 6; ventral ducts similar to those on dorsum, with 2–6 arranged across some posterior abodominal segments. DISTRIBUTION. Palaearctic. Armenia, Crete, France, Germany, Hungary, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Romania, Russia, Sweden and Ukraine. In Iran, R. albidus occurs in Esfahan, Markazi and Tehran. This mealybug is known from 6 host plant families worldwide (Ben-Dov et al., 2012). MATERIAL EXAMINED: Esfahan: Esfahan, 4 adult Ƥ, on Festuca arundinacea (Poaceae), 29.i. 2002 (B. Hatami). Markazi: Mahalat, 2 adult Ƥ, on Gymnocalycium sp. (Cactaceae), 16.x. 1993 (Hosieninia). Tehran: Shahriyar, 4 adult Ƥ, on Echeveria sp. (Crassulaceae), 4.v. 2000. COMMENTS. R. albidus occurs on the roots of ornamental plants. The plant families Cactaceae and Crassulaceae are recorded here for the first time.     Trends in Preserving Scholarly Electronic Journals

    Scholarly electronic journals have become the largest and fastest growing segment of digital collections for most libraries. Many issues and concerns for managing electronic journals relate to preserving and providing continued access to them. The preserving of scholarly electronic journals is a complex issue with various aspects and is largely different from archiving of print-based scholarly journals. In this paper the author deals with issues concerning archiving of scholarly electronic journals. The purpose of this paper is to identify and discuss different issues related to preserving scholarly electronic journals. The following issues are discussed: differences between print and digital media, shift in the responsibility of archiving, copyright and intellectual property rights, cost of archiving, expertise, selection, redundancy, organizational issues, etc. Technical issues and challenges related to digital preservation include a lack of practical implementations of preservation standards and a lack of technical knowledge, in general, of what information is required to support the digital preservation process within organizations. Nevertheless, digital preservation has received considerably more prominence in recent years, gaining the attention of entities such as national libraries, national archives and other organizations

    Model Development for Physical Parameter Estimation of Horizontal Well Using Drawdown Data

    This report presents a new practice for pressure transient analysis (PTA) and reservoir parameter estimation using system-identification (SI) techniques. The SI technique is widely used in advanced process engineering. The main goal of this study is to develop a reliable method for pressure transient analysis in horizontal wells benefiting from distributed pressure sensing. In addition, this technique is going to be used for the PTA of horizontal well data when the well is producing under choke control at surface. The ideas in this report are largely based on earlier work by Farshbaf Zinati [1] who developed a data assimilation approach to perform PTA using distributed sensing in horizontal wells, and and Mansoori [2] who pioneered the use of SI techniques for PTA. New elements in this report are the additional use of classic elements from (type-curve-based) PTA in the SI workflow and testing of the work flow with a synthetic example.This research was carried out within the context of the Integrated Systems Approach to Petroleum Production (ISAPP) knowledge centre. Adult female oval to broadly oval, membranous. Anal lobes moderately developed. Antennae 7 or 8 segmented. Legs well developed, slender. Translucent pores present in moderate numbers on hind coxa, femur and tibia. Cerarii numbering 17 pairs. Anal lobe cerarii each with 2 enlarged conical setae, plus about 4 or 5 auxiliary setae and a group of trilocular pores, all situated on a sclerotized area, a little larger than anal ring. Anterior cerarii each with 2 conical setae, except each anterior mesothoracic pair with 3, and those on head with 3 or 4. Circulus well developed, notched at each side and divided by an intersegmental line. Ostioles well developed, prominent. Dorsal surface with long slender setae, accompanied by some short setae; ventral surface with normal slender setae. Ventral multilocular disc pores present around vulva and medially in more or less single rows on posterior edges of abdominal segments IV–VII; also usually in single rows on anterior edges of abdominal segments VI and VII; a few also scattered medially on thorax. Dorsal and ventral trilocular pores evenly dispersed. Dorsal and ventral discoidal pores minute, sparsely dispersed and absent from next to eyes. Dorsal oral rim ducts, when present, few, usually with a pair located behind each frontal cerarius and a submedial pair situated on metathorax. Ventral oral rim ducts, often with a discoidal pore next to rim, present on margins of thorax, often extending to spiracles, and on abdominal segments I and II. Dorsal oral collar ducts, often with an obscure rim and with 1 or 2 discoidal pores next to orifice, usually present on margins of head and abdominal segment VII; ventral oral collar ducts normally of 3 sizes: large type, each often with a discoidal pore next to orifice and sometimes with a narrow obscure rim, distributed in marginal groups on abdominal segments and sparingly around margins of thorax and head, usually in a single marginal row at most; a small duct, each narrower than a trilocular pore, usually present medially on abdominal segments, and a minute duct present across middle of abdominal segments plus a few scattered on medial area of thorax. DISTRIBUTION. Afrotropical, Australasian, Neotropical, Oriental, Palaearctic: Afghanistan, China, Iran, Israel, Japan and Spain. This mealybug is known from 41 plant families (Ben-Dov et al., 2012). COMMENTS. P. c r yp t us was listed in the checklist of Kozár et al. (1996), but it has not been observed by the author in nature and there are no specimens in HMIM.     Spaces of contestation: the everyday experiences of ten African migrants in Cape Town

    Includes bibliographical references.Xenophobia in South Africa is so overt that it has take a covert form. The 'xenocide' events that took place in 2008 were called xenophobic acts. It is the recurrent denialism of xenophobia on an everyday basis that this project has explored through the narrative accounts of ten African migrants in Cape Town. The lived everyday experiences of ten African migrants have brought forward the central argument of this thesis. From the data, it is evident that as a reponse to everyday pressures of prejudices and xenophobia in social and physical spaces, African migrants have developed mutable, unsettled and vagrant identities in order to cope with everyday low level violence. This argument emerged as four key stressors have been identified as the components of a more substantial explanation of xenophobia in South Africa. The four key components are: the enforcement of identity (national and group), the demarcation of spaces of belonging, the experiences of economic insecurity, and lastly a 'culture of violence' in South Africa. This thesis argues that these four stressors are the result of an on-going active process of xenophobic attitudes

    Prospective Epidemiological Research Studies in Iran (the PERSIAN Cohort Study): Rationale, Objectives, and Design

    Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) account for 76% of deaths in Iran, and this number is on the rise, in parallel with global rates. Many risk factors associated with NCDs are preventable; however, it is first necessary to conduct observational studies to identify relevant risk factors and the most appropriate approach to controlling them. Iran is a multiethnic country; therefore, in 2014 the Ministry of Health and Medical Education launched a nationwide cohort study - Prospective Epidemiological Research Studies in Iran (PERSIAN) - in order to identify the most prevalent NCDs among Iran's ethnic groups and to investigate effective methods of prevention. The PERSIAN study consists of 4 population-based cohorts; the adult component (the PERSIAN Cohort Study), described in this article, is a prospective cohort study including 180,000 persons aged 35-70 years from 18 distinct areas of Iran. Upon joining the cohort, participants respond to interviewer-administered questionnaires. Blood, urine, hair, and nail samples are collected and stored. To ensure consistency, centrally purchased equipment is sent to all sites, and the same team trains all personnel. Routine visits and quality assurance/control measures are taken to ensure protocol adherence. Participants are followed for 15 years postenrollment. The PERSIAN study is currently in the enrollment phase; cohort profiles will soon emerge. © The Author(s) 2018.
