"L'introduction de la litterature taïwanaise en Italie: defis et possibilites au prisme d'une lecture sociologique de ses traductions"
No full textThis paper addresses the introduction of Taiwan Literature in Italy, considered through the lens of translation. It presents an analysis of the major approaches to the translation of Taiwan literature since the publication of the first works in Italian in 1997, attempting a sociological approach, which should emphasize the work of translators and the real context in which the translations were realized. As a matter of fact, translation can be an instrument to observe the movements of Taiwanese literature in a global context, especially if considered in its social dimension. Indeed, translation has been defined as a “social practice” (Wolf 2014), and the social dimension of the translating process is clear in the number of agents it involves, who are not just an author, a translator, and a reader, but also institutional and non-institutional agents both from the exporting and the importing country, and even non-human actors.
Broadening the scope of translation beyond the linguistic and textual level, encompassing the social level, will show the steps the literature of the island has taken to enter Italy and the strategies employed by various agents. This will lead to general considerations on the dynamics involved in translation, a situation in which different capitals are at play
