    Diplomarbeit - Veterinärmedizinische Universität Wien - 2024In der vorliegenden Forschungsarbeit wurde eine Analyse von 52 Fleischproben unterschiedlicher Herkunft durchgeführt, die aus folgenden Zusammensetzungen bestanden: 21 Proben von Rindfleisch, 16 Proben einer Mischung aus Rind- und Schweinefleisch, fünf von Putenfleisch, drei von Hühnerfleisch, zwei Proben von Lammfleisch, zwei von Schweinefleisch sowie eine Probe einer Mischung aus Rindfleisch und Gemüse im Jahr 2022 mit kulturellen Untersuchungsmethoden untersucht und hinsichtlich der Einhaltung der in der VO(EG) 2073/2005 festgelegten Grenzwerte beurteilt. Um einen umfassenden Kontext zur Qualitätssicherung und Trendanalyse zu bieten, wurden die gewonnenen Daten mit den Ergebnissen aus den Jahren 2020 und 2021 gegenübergestellt. Es ist bemerkenswert, dass im Jahr 2022 keine der 52 analysierten Proben Salmonella spp. in einer Menge von 25g enthielt. Ebenso lag keine Probe hinsichtlich E. coli über dem festgelegten Höchstwert von 500 KbE/g. Jedoch wurde bei 21 Proben eine Überschreitung des Grenzwerts für die aerobe mesophile Gesamtkeimzahl festgestellt, wobei dieser bei 5x106 KBE/g liegt. Insgesamt 14 Proben wiesen Werte unterhalb des Mindestgrenzwerts von 5x105 KBE/g auf. Zum Vergleich: im Jahr 2020 wurden 16 Fleischproben untersucht. Keine dieser Proben zeigte Salmonella spp. In 25g Probenmaterial. Escherichia coli wurde in zwei Proben detektiert, allerdings in Mengen, die unter den zulässigen Grenzwerten lagen. These were evaluated according to established examination methods, especially with respect to compliance with the microbiological criteria set out in Regulation (EC) No. 2073/2005. To provide a comprehensive context for quality assurance and trend analysis, the obtained data were compared with the results from the years 2020 and 2021. It is noteworthy that in 2022, none of the 52 analysed samples contained Salmonella spp. Similarly, no sample exceeded the maximum threshold for E. coli of 500 KbE/g. However, 21 samples exceeded the limit for the aerobic mesophilic total bacterial count, which is set at 5 x 10^6 CFU/g. A total of 14 samples showed values below the minimum threshold of 5 x 10^5 CFU/g. For comparison: In 2020, 16 meat samples were examined. None of these samples showed Salmonella spp. in a 25 g sample. Escherichia coli were detected in two samples, but in quantities that remained below the permissible limits. One of the 16 samples exceeded the maximum value for the aerobic mesophilic total bacterial count, while eight samples showed values below the set minimum threshold

    Differentiation of alpine rose honey based on volatile compounds

It is gathered from plants of the Rhododendron family including Rhododendron ferrugineum and Rhododendron hirsutum, native to the Central European Alps. Different honey types such as blossom honey, honeydew honey, and mountain honey are compared in this diploma thesis to alpine rose honey. To distinguish the mentioned types of honey some quality parameters (such as pH-value, free acidity and electrical conductivity) were determined. Furthermore, honey was distilled by hydro distillation and the essential oil compounds determined by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The alpine rose samples showed a strikingly low pH-value (4.1) and low electrical conductivity (381 S/cm) but did not differ in these parameters from blossom honey. Four compounds were detected in the essential oil which distinguished alpine rose honey from the other samples. These include 2-pentyl furan, cislinalool oxide, decanal and carvomenthenal. The blossom honey samples presented five compounds which allowed a distinction from the other honey samples such as -eudesmol, 6,10,14-trimethyl-2-pentadecanone, 9-eicosyne, nonacos-1-ene and decyl hexadecyl ester carbonic acid. The honeydew honey only showed one component to be distinguished from the other honey samples and that was borneol. The mountain honey samples, on the other hand, displayed no significant compounds by which they could be distinguished from other honeys; however, they revealed a similar compound pattern to those of the alpine rose honeys and the honeydew honeys. Verschiedene Honigarten wie Blütenhonig, Waldhonig und Gebirgshonig werden in dieser Diplomarbeit mit Almrauschhonig verglichen. Zur Unterscheidung der genannten Honigsorten wurden einige Qualitätsparameter (wie pH-Wert, freie Säure und elektrische Leitfähigkeit) bestimmt. Darüber hinaus wurde Honig durch Hydrodestillation destilliert und die ätherischen Ölverbindungen durch Gaschromatographie/Massenspektrometrie (GC-MS) bestimmt. Die Almrauschproben wiesen einen niedrigen pH-Wert (4,1) und eine geringe elektrische Leitfähigkeit (381 S/cm) auf, unterschieden in diesen Parametern jedoch nicht vom Blütenhonig. In den ätherischen Ölen wurden vier Verbindungen nachgewiesen, die Almrauschhonig von den anderen Proben unterschieden. Dazu gehören 2-Pentylfuran, cis- Linalooloxid, Decanal und Carvomenthenal. Die Blütenhonigproben enthielten fünf Verbindungen, die eine Unterscheidung ermöglichten, darunter a-Eudesmol, 6,10,14- Trimethyl-2-pentadecanon, 9-Eicosin, Nonacos-1-en und Decylhexadecylester-Kohlensäure. Der Waldhonig wies nur einen Bestandteil auf, der sich von den anderen unterschied, und zwar Borneol. Die Gebirgshonigproben hingegen wiesen keine signifikanten Verbindungen auf, durch die sie von anderen Honigen unterschieden werden konnten; sie zeigten jedoch ein ähnlich zusammengesetztes Muster wie die Almrauschhonige und die Waldhonige. Mittels Diskriminanzanalyse konnten die Honigproben voneinander unterschieden werden

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
