    La interpersonalidad discursiva como alternativa al metadiscurso interpersonal

    The purpose of this paper is to propose a new concept, discursive interpersonality, as a flexibilized model of interpersonal metadiscourse (IM). Departing from the proven validity of IM (Hyland, 2005a, 2005b) as a framework to analyse interpersonal relations between writers/speakers and readers/listeners, our argumentation is grounded on our research results, stemming from the study of different academic and professional genres. Since interpersonal metadiscourse is conditioned by contextual variables, such as genre, discipline, language and corpus, as an array of authors suggest (Dahl, 2004; Sala, 2006; Yakhontova, 2006; Giannoni, 2007; Mapelli, 2008; Crismore & Abdollazadeh, 2010; Gotti, 2010; Lorés-Sanz, 2011a; Ivorra Pérez, 2015, 2016; Suau-Jiménez, 2016; Mattiello, 2018; Turiman et al., 2018; Herrando-Rodrigo, 2019), IM would need to be redefined or readapted, including new markers, new lexico-grammatical realizations. As a result and very importantly, propositionality should be considered a theoretical central feature that contributes to interpersonal interactions but that traditional approaches of IM do not accept as such. So, a new, more encompassing concept needs to be coined that accounts for all these essential aspects. Assuming how interpersonal metadiscourse has been defined conventionally (Mauranen, 1993a, 1993b; Hyland, 2005a, 2017), we propose two integrative concepts: discursive turn (Jaworski & Pritchard, 2005), not in its philosophical sense but in one that sees discourse as an identity axis or departure point for analysis, and interpersonality (Lorés-Sanz et al., 2010), considered as an umbrella term broader than IM. Discursive interpersonality might thus open more satisfactory paths for further research in a variety of genres, domains and languages.El propósito de este artículo es proponer un nuevo concepto, interpersonalidad discursiva, como forma de flexibilizar el modelo del metadiscurso interpersonal (MI). Partimos de la probada validez del MI (Hyland, 2005a, 2005b) como marco de análisis de las relaciones interpersonales entre emisores y receptores en textos escritos y hablados. Nuestra argumentación se basa en nuestras investigaciones en diferentes géneros académicos y profesionales, con el foco en la interpersonalidad. Puesto que el MI está condicionado por diferentes variables contextuales, tal como sugieren diversos trabajos (Dahl, 2004; Sala, 2006; Yakhontova, 2006; Giannoni, 2007; Mapelli, 2008; Crismore y Abdollazadeh, 2010; Gotti, 2010; Lorés-Sanz 2011a; Ivorra Pérez, 2015, 2016; Suau-Jiménez, 2016; Mattiello, 2018; Turiman y otros, 2018; HerrandoRodrigo, 2019), este tendría que redefinirse o readaptarse para dar cuenta de nuevos marcadores y nuevas realizaciones léxico-gramaticales. Como resultado y de forma muy importante, se incluiría la proposicionalidad como rasgo teórico integrante de la interpersonalidad, que las definiciones tradicionales del MI no aceptan como tal. Por tanto, un nuevo concepto necesitaría ser acuñado, que incluyera estos nuevos aspectos esenciales.     An ethnographic approach to the emergence or reconfiguration of digital knowledge transfer genres

    Current quality standards in the academia are rising scholars’ awareness on the importance of being known and present in their field of expertise and, consequently, the urge to increase the visibility of their research. Moreover, research institutions around the world praise those research projects that confirm their findings to be transferable and useful to society. Thus, scholars are finding new ways of codifying knowledge so as to reach a broader readership in order to show the validity, transferability and visibility of their research. Needless to say the advent of new technologies and the Internet have opened a new avenue of possibilities, advantages and challenges for researchers to become more present worldwide. Among them, research project webs have become a shop window to those who surf the net in the search of further information. Since language cannot be `context-less´ (Blommaert, 2006), we will take an ethnographic approach to the writing process of two different research group webs. The first case study will be from the Social Sciences and the other from hard science disciplines. We will collect ethnographic data, conducting interviews face-to-face, talk around the text and observations to explore the generic relations between the different genres embedded in research group webs in an attempt to find out whether knowledge is being (re)codified. Then, it would be essential to know whether these genres have emerged (Giltrow and Wilson, Crownton an Stein), evolved (Campagna et al. 2012; Herrando 2014) or even whether they might have been reconfigured (Herring, 2012) in research communication in English. So far, and together with Berkenkotter and Huckin (1995), Miller (1994), Tardy (2003) or Herrando-Rodrigo (2015) our results suggest that writers gain knowledge of the genre network by having access to the practice community and colleagues’ interactio

    The emergence of English as the international language of communication has increased the attention and concern given its teaching and learning. This survey-based study explores the attitudes of Spanish practitioners and undergraduate students towards English as the vehicular language in the field of medicine and towards Medical Electronic Popularizations as an alternative to medical research articles. The survey results point out that these subjects’ perception of English as the vehicle of communication in the medical field and their conceptualization of medical electronic popularizations are positive. Pedagogical implications can be drawn from this study since it confirms our students’ awareness of the use of English and the new-born genres or communication channels

    [EN] In the last few years, the web has become a privileged access platform for knowledge for an increasingly globalized society. Thus, digital platforms are currently used by researchers to strengthen the visibility of their research output as well as their own. In this study we explore the concept of e-visibility as a key notion in the current digital discursive practices within the scientific context. For such purposes we have focused on international research project websites as instances of such practices.The analysis undertaken is data-driven and has revealed the existence of various entities which are made visible by means of a combination of lexicogrammatical devices together with other modes afforded by the digital platforms. Results also show that there are various types of e-visibility emerging from the combination of the entities and the lexicogrammatical and visual resources used to make them visible.[ES] En los últimos años, la web se ha convertido en una excelente plataforma de acceso al conocimiento para nuestra sociedad, cada vez más globalizada. Por ello, los investigadores utilizan las plataformas digitales para fomentar tanto la visibilidad de sus resultados de investigación como la suya propia. En este artículo exploramos el concepto de visibilidad digital (e-visibilidad) como una noción clave en las prácticas discursivas digitales dentro del contexto científico. Para estudiar estas prácticas, hemos centrado nuestro análisis en sitios web de proyectos de investigación internacionales. El análisis realizado se basa en datos y revela la existencia de varias entidades que se hacen visibles mediante la combinación de estrategias lexicogramaticales con otros modos que sólo las plataformas digitales ponen al alcance.     'Who's talking to me?': The construction of writers' identity in digital medical genres

    The urgent need to find out medical information has led institutions and mass media publications to craft a new digital genre of expert / non-expert communication, without any previous agreement on either its rhetorical or discursive features. This genre, which I have labelled medical electronic popularizations (Med-E-Pops), has been initially identified as a blurred genre with hybrid functions, and understood as a reshaping and repurposing of medical research articles (Med-RAs), in an attempt to facilitate understanding by a heterogeneous audience, the Internet community. This paper aims to uncover the extent of Med-E-Pops writers’ (in)visibility studying the use of abstract rhetors in their texts as a devoicing mechanism. Previous researchers concluded that abstract rhetors in scientific dissemination articles explain the situation described in the Med-RAs as independent of human agency. I will contrastively analyse the use of abstract rhetors in a comparable corpus of 40 Med-E-Pops and 40 Med-RAs. In particular, I will explore (1) the rhetorical distribution throughout the texts, (2) the semantic implications of each inanimate subject and (3) their combination with active verbs. This will allow me to reflect on whose voice is crafted in this digital genre and with what purpose.</p

    This paper aims to contribute to the study of the concept of writer's visibility inspired by approaches to the analysis of identity in written discourse (see Ivanic 1998, Charles 1999 and John 2005). The way medical academic writers selfrepresent themselves in their research articles can be seen in terms of a gradable visibility cline crafted and constrained by the academic genre expectations of these texts (Swales and Feak 2004; Stock and Eik-Nes 2016). Traditionally, authorial visibility has been studied within frameworks such as evaluation, authorial voice and stance. Still, there is no framework as yet been proposed that binds together possible textual realisations that can be considered as visibility features in academic written texts. This paper conducts a study of 40 medical research articles that reveal different manifestations of the authors' presence. A cline is proposed that encompasses different lexico-grammatical realisations such as self-mentions, passive constructions and non-animated subjects followed by active verbs. These features can be interpreted as authorial voice realisations that allow us to measure or grade writers' visibility and its rhetorical implication in the text

    Regulación de la expresión y función de la molécula de adhesión celular cadheriana E durante la progresión tumoral en la carcinogénesis de piel de ratón

    Tesis en CD-ROM Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Facultad de Farmacia, Departamento de Bioquímica y Biología Molecular, leída el 13-01-1998Durante la progresión tumoral, y en concreto en la carcinogénesis de piel de ratón, la desaparición de la molécula de adhesión celular cadherina E(CD-E) se ha relacionado con una mayor capacidad invasiva. Para estudiar el papel de esta molécula en la tumorogénesis hemos bloqueado su expresión en la línea celular de queratinocito de ratón E24, tumorogénica, pero no metastásica, mediante la trasfección con un cDNA antisentido de CD-E. Los transfectantes antisentido aumentaron su capacidad invasiva y adquirieron propiedades metastásicas. Además se ha observado una correlación inversa entre la CD-E y la proteasas de matriz extracelular MMP-9. Por otra parte, para estudiar la regulación de la expresión de la CD-E en la carcinogénesis, hemos analizado la actividad transcripcional de la región 5' del gen de CD-E en diferentes líneas celulares representativas de los distintos estadíos de la progresión y con niveles variables de CD-E. Una región comprendida entre las posiciones -178/+92 respecto del inicio de la transcripción mostró actividad específica.
