Introduction
While the recent months have seen us retreat to this or that ‘tiny corner in the house’, they have showcased in retrospect the warmth and benefit of exchanging in presentia about a beloved author. ‘Iris Murdoch and the Ethical Imagination’, a two-day symposium organized in Amiens by the SEAC and research group CORPUS (EA 4295) on October 10 and 11, has proved such an occasion. It purported to celebrate Dame Iris Murdoch’s continued influence in literary and philosophical studies, and, moreove..

Literatur und kulturelle ›Wir-Phantasmen‹ in Europa. Überlegungen am Beispiel Iris Wolffs Roman "So tun, als ob es regnet"
The present article is based on the premise that Europe is currently in context of migration dynamics between 'home' and 'foreign' ideas, between 'soft' strategies of inclusion, social participation on the one hand, and 'hard' tactics ofexclusion of the 'others' or 'Migrants' on the other hand. Against this background and based on some ideas of Zygmunt Bauman, Navid Kermani and Amin Maalouf, I will firstly discuss some factors of the 'We-debate'. Then, using the example of the novel So tun, als ob es regnet of the German-Romanian author Iris Wolff I will analyze how far literature uses translation and multilingualism to initiate a poetological process of understanding others and therefore counteracts cultural we-phantasms in Europe

Applied and fundamental aspects of BABY BOOM-mediated regeneration
Keywords: Somatic embryogenesis, Transcription factor, AINTEGUMENTA-LIKE, BABY BOOM, BBM, Sweet Pepper Transformation Title: Applied and Fundamental Aspects of BBM-mediated Regeneration Author: Iris Heidmann Catergories: Plant regeneration, Plant transformation, transcription factor, somatic embryogenesis Plant regeneration from tissues or single cells is essential for plant propagation. Efficient regeneration can be archieved through somatic embryogenesis using the plant growth regulator auxin or overexpression of specific transcription factors, but the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. The potency of the BABY BOOM (BBM) AINTEGUMENTA-LIKE transcription factor to induce somatic embryogenesis in crop (sweet pepper) and model species (tobacco) was investigated. It was found that the introduction of BBM into sweet pepper, which is recalcitrant for transformation, enhanced the regeneration of transgenic plants. Exogenous cytokinin was necessary to induce somatic embryogenesis in both tobacco and sweet pepper. The mechanism underlying BBM-mediated somatic embryogenesis was studied in Arabidopsis by identifying BBM target genes (ChIPSeq). Genes controlling zygotic embryo identity and maturation (LAFL), as well as auxin biosynthesis (TAA1, YUCCA) and transport (PIN) are BBM targets. Mutant analysis and chemical inhibition studies showed that these genes play positive roles in BBM-induced somatic embryogenesis. </p
Review: Iris Stahlke (2001). Das Rollenspiel als Methode der qualitativen Sozialforschung. Möglichkeiten und Grenzen [The Method of Role-Playing in Qualitative Social Research. Potentialities and Limits]
The author Iris STAHLKE asks in this publication of her dissertation if role-playing can be used as a method in qualitative social research and if it can add new aspects to qualitative social psychological research. The background of this work was a research and advanced vocational training project in which STAHLKE was active from 1993 to 1996. The aim of the advanced vocational training "Krisensituation in Straßenbahnen und Bussen" (Crises in Trams and Buses), in which tram and bus drivers took part, was to enable them to develop better skills in handling crisis situations. For this training the method of role-playing was chosen. She supports her result with theoretical explanations of role concepts, different methods of plays and detailed examples from her practical work with drivers. STAHLKE found that this method was especially useful in representing the subjective experiences of individuals and groups. With the use of the evaluation method of subject focussed interaction unconscious and group dynamic processes can be found and systematically represented. STAHLKE offers the conclusion that role-playing can enter into the field of qualitative research methods.
